Rest in Eternal Power Sir. Salute to you and thank you for your service to a nation that wouldn't even let you and your contemporaries-get the GI Bill and housing grants like their white counterparts.
I wish he could have gone to rest in the world he fought to protect. I wish that he could have gone to rest secure in the knowledge that his descendants would thrive and prosper in a democratic society, that his sacrifice was never in vain, having led to a lasting security for all who live in this country. I hope that he was miraculously unaware that his own countrymen are currently waging a war against the democratic constitutional republic that he defended. And unaware that those same people are carrying out an agenda to prop both Jim Crow AND a fascist dictator back on their thrones, and censor American history so that future generations have no knowledge whatsoever of this man's sacrifice in a time of war, how Jim Crow denied him equal rights, including GI Bill benefits, for much of his life, and is rearing his hateful self back up to do it again to this man's descendants and of all minorities. I thank God all the time that my mother passed just after the election, therefore with hope in her heart and mind for her descendants. A true patriot all her life long. Never missed a memorial day parade, and cheered the vets as they marched by as if they were all heroes just returning home from the war. I'm so thankful that she didn't live to see what had become of this country.
Mr. Richard Overton, another WW2 veteran, died at 112 a few years ago, I guess the cap is 112 years kidding aside, RIP and thank you for your service, Mr. Brooks
I was also confused by the story. Because I heard about Richard Overton a few months ago. What they're looking at is the amount of years this person lived too. At the time this gentleman was younger than Richard over 10 but he lived longer than Richard Overton making him the oldest world war II veteran now. Both men are absolutely incredible though!
Through these heroes, Europe has been liberated from the oppressor, thousands have lost their lives, and families lost a loved one as we call them, the liberators, and the family of lawrence Brooks, My condolences in the loss of a hero .
