Yup. People forget these guys actually get trained in dojos akin/adjacent to the NJPW Young Lions' dojo. There's a higher standard for all combat fighting in Japan and the Japanese brand of deathmatch wrestling is not exempt from this standard. Jun Kasai is another example of guy who can tussle without weapons if he needs to.
Takeda surprised me on how good mat wrestling he can do in this match always saw him as a death match performer just like Nick Gage, his accomplishment on death match wrestling overshadowed how good of a worker he is
Commentary team kinda stunk this one up. They really underselled Takeda in their attempt to oversell Gresham. Really doesn’t take a lot of research to find out that Takeda is a very skilled technical wrestler.
They completely forgot or neglected to mention that Takeda is an MMA fighter too, with a 11-4 record. The guy is pretty legit outside his deathmatch exploits.
