- NBC News’ Monica Alba toured the newly renovated White House Situation Room with new screens, panels and furniture that still maintains the original 1960s look from when then-President John F. Kennedy had the first secure communications suite established.

Sometimes, when all the political noise quiets down I pause to appreciate how well our government functions, in some ways. This renovation almost certainly enhanced our ability to deal with threats both external and domestic. Makes me sleep a little better at night.

The pictures and video are courtesy of the official White House photographer. Media was not allowed to take photos and video and they had to leave their smartphones, smart watches and all other electronic devices behind before being permitted inside the Situation Room.
