  • In early 2019 Heritage Parts Centre asked us to fit a prototype Roof canvas on an early VW T3/Vanagon/VW T25. In this two part special, we will be going through in detail, how to remove the old canvas, prepare your roof, and fit the new canvas.
The van in this episode is a 1981 VW T3 westfalia pop top with a 2.0ltr aircooled engine.

Thanks for the How To. Getting ready to do this on our '78 T2 and I don't have anyone to help me remove the top. So replacing the canvas with the top attached is the only way I've got to do it. Again, Thank You!

I have always found that a smart tap with a hammer firms up the staple if you don't have an air-gun . I intend to start my T2 renovation (with adding an ex-Californian Westfalia roof which requires being removed from the donor structure). Thanks for all your information.

Great video as usual. Really good to watch. With reference to the tension on the canvas itself it’s worth bearing in mind that canvas will shrink over time once it’s gotten wet and then died. So a little slack is probably not a bad thing.

Hi I am just about to attempt this on my 1990 T3 Reimo pop top. Great video and really helpful thank you.
Just curious, would you been able to tense up the fabric by pulling it out a bit at the bottom rather than struggling with the staples at the top. Admittedly I would loose the beading finish and would need to trim at the bottom instead. Just sounds like it might be easier that way but I might be missing something, Thanks 👍

Great video! Do you know where to find the aluminium trim to set the bottom of the canvas? Thanks a lot

Great work, what would this cost for a workshop to fit roughly? My canvas needs replacing and it needs to be tight!

Love your work guys. Question.... How would you fit a 110 outlet into your vanagon as mine has none currently but thinking of retro fitting one?

I've taken 3 days with mine so far! Not an easy job at all. Some good tips in this video. Nice work. I'll be very happy if mine looks as good as this one!

Use a dry piece of soap to mark the canevas.
