    Hi Mike, I've been binge watching your videos and I'm learning a lot. Just wanted to ask you for clarification or advice. You mentioned that we should tune out the noise and do nothing at times for example the market crash of the pandemic outbreak of spring 2020. If I were to be doing the DCA strategy, should I literaly do nothing or keep investing knowing that the market will eventually go back up? And should I keep investing during this time, should I invest more or less money? My thinking is that I should keep investing and sink in more money since the market is on sale. Wanted to know your thoughts on this and I appreciate your informative videos!

    • @MikesFinancialEdge
      @MikesFinancialEdge  Рік тому +1

      I'm delighted that you're enjoying the videos and that you feel you're learning a lot. When I mentioned "tuning out the noise" and "doing nothing" during market corrections or downturns, I was referring to the idea of not altering your investment strategy. You're absolutely right in understanding that the approach of Dollar-Cost Averaging (DCA) remains relevant during those times, as they can prove highly advantageous for consistent monthly investors. So stick with it!
      In fact, if someone can allocate a bit more from their budget and consider investing a little extra during market corrections, that would be a great strategy. However, it's important to emphasize that attempting to "time" the market and predicting the optimal investment moments isn't a reliable approach.
      By the way, have you checked out this newer video on DCA? ua-cam.com/video/QVUqNbvaGWI/v-deo.html

    Great Video! Should someone pay off their credit cards prior to investing?

    • @MikesFinancialEdge
      @MikesFinancialEdge  Рік тому +2

      Glad you liked it. Credit cards usually have pretty high interest rates and most of them have an interest rate higher than what we should expect to get from an invesment. Thus, we should usually pay down this type of debt first. However, if we have the option of participating in an employer's 401k plan, I feel we should take advantage of participating in that plan up to the point of receiving your full match from the company as we work to pay down any credit card debt.

    Thank you for the video. A question, which are the "cheapest" ETF?

    • @MikesFinancialEdge
      @MikesFinancialEdge  Рік тому +1

      I'm glad you liked the video. The term "cheapest" can have various meanings for different people. It might refer to the price of a share or whether something currently offers good value or is underpriced. When considering an ETF for the S&P 500, for instance, there are several options to choose from. As long as they are genuine S&P 500 ETFs, it doesn't matter which one we invest in, even though they may have different prices per share. For a comprehensive overview of the S&P 500, you can check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/LL-lkcM1_4U/v-deo.html I do highlight several and one that has a low share price. Hope that helps answer your question. Thanks for checking out the videos!

    5. Never borrow money to invest in stocks should be in everyone’s wall.

      Yes, it's surprising how many people end up thinking that's a good idea. They rationalize it by believing they can earn more than the interest rate. Sound investing can be quite simple if people can just avoid making silly mistakes and control their emotions.

    Great sound advice. I help friends get into stock market investing. I have them start with slowly building up 3 ETFS (SCHD / SPLG / SCHG) and then for the initial few months have them self assess their behaviour etc... Its a good way to gauge their behaviour (FOMO / GREED / PANIC / CHILL) patterns. I also advise these 3 ETFS are good enough to keep adding to and only to widen investmenrs if they really find the whole thing interesting (then i teach them how to value businesses etc) I have about 90% of my portfolio as the looong haul but i do speculate (long positions still) but not cause i expect it will make me super $$ but because i quite enjoy it. I am retired young so have the time and financial breathing space and like to keep the brain active. This % speculation will likely reduce over time. I dont need to beat the market (but also dont mind if i trail the market by a few points either). Just subscribed to your channel. I like your sensible "non hype' approach.

      Thank you for the comment and sharing. It sounds like you are helping people with sensible advice. I use the SPLG all the time as a way to help people get started. It's a nice choice for the S&P because the price per share is still pretty low and seems more affordable for beginners. Those other two are great options, too. Happy to hear you liked the channel and subscribed!

    Are dividends counted as returns? S&p got 1.6 dividend but 7-12 returns do dividends get put in that return equation already?

    • @MikesFinancialEdge
      @MikesFinancialEdge  Рік тому +2

      When talking about the compounded annual growth rate of the S&P 500, it would include the share price appreciation over time plus the dividends that are paid.
