I've now finished Final Fantasy XVI and it would be number 9 or 10 on this list! Just in case it isn't assumed knowledge, big visual spoilers for all of the games listed here!
I've been wanting to get into FF and was hoping to use this video to help me figure out which one to try first and I think you just sold me on trying 9. Spice and Wolf is one of my favorite series and I adored the music in it.
As a huge fan of the series i always enjoy seeing these lists! Its always fun to discuss why people love certain titles. 9, 10 and 12 are my three favorites!
The first final fantasy I played was 13, despite what all the haters say that game has a special place in my heart. I could still replay it today if my backlog wasn't so huge ...... The sequels are a different story well lol
Honestly I found the sequels really good as well. I would say that theu failed to tell the overarching story they wanted to tell, but each is brilliant in its own right.
I really like XIII. The last couple chapters have amazing gameplay, and I thoroughly enjoy the story. I agree with the most common criticisms that the first half of the game (gameplay wise) is far too slow, but it definitely makes up for it later on. I think the gameplay of XIII-2 is pretty good (I personally prefer the more slow/strategic gameplay of XIII and feel like they messed up some of the balancing of the jobs in XIII-2, I don't like the "pet" aspect, and don't think Wound damage was executed well as a mechanic, but it's still fun to play), but the story feels like fanfic level of writing. I've played through it a few times over the years, and every time I find myself rolling my eyes during most of the cutscenes. My opinion is similar for Lightning Returns. I enjoyed the gameplay, but the story was a lost cause by then. Better execution on the writing for LR than XIII-2, but they went for a full on "jump the shark" story which I couldn't take seriously.
I played ten years of my life FFXIV,, it was a journey who started in middle of a long time period of depression for myself, sometimes just thinking about playing some FFXIV at home gave me purposes to what I was doing. Now I stopped playing it, with Endwalker giving me the most satisfying ending for what FFXIV was for me, giving an end for all those characters I met, all the narratives I discovered when I was still a teenager, and even talking directly to me with the wonderful final act. I will never forget this journey of ours, ARR veterans, how we met, played, and saw our beloved game growing up with us, and more and more players discovering what FFXIV is. Thanks Yoshi-P and CBU3 for giving us ten years of a journey, and a conclusion to it.
I remember 10 years ago it's was common to hear that Skyrim saved people's lives because it gave people with self harming thoughts a goal and literally work/play out of it
I just like final fantasy 15 for the opposite reason people dislike final fantasy 13. 13 was incredibly straightforward for most of it however, 15 was so large was so few fast travel. I probably spent hours on my phone waiting for the car to get somewhere
Final Fantasy IX is one of the greatest experiences I’ve had. The game had me hooked, I was so invested, had to explore everywhere, laughed hysterically and got emotional. Vivi’s journey is one of my all time favourite character arcs. It’s in my trio favourite games - Final Fantasy IX, Omori and Dark Souls
FF14 is a juggernaut of a game and story. I started as Paladin and I wanted to be a dark knight, and that was my motivation to go all the way through all of Realm Reborn. The slow parts of Realm Reborn were not a problem because I wanted to be the edgy knight. And then 2.5 hit, and instead of wanting to be a dark knight, the game gave me a reason to need to be a dark knight. That was just some personal story development I wasn't even expecting. Made for some fun roleplay.
My top 5 is VII, XII, V, VI, IX/X. If you add spinoffs/remakes, the order would become VII, XII, V, Tactics Advance, VII Remake/IX. I'd need to replay VI since I've had it as my favourite but also soured on it over the years due to its gameplay being lackluster. Final Fantasy V has some optional scenes that flesh out its cast. Its plot still isn't as involved as the later games but it has some great moments. I can respect your focus on story over gameplay, the mix of both is why I rate V so highly, and the gameplay is one of the series' best. I feel similarly to you on XII, it needed more character moments and the middle is where it slacks off, it picks up around the end game. However, the gameplay is insanely good in both the original and Zodiac Age, probably the single best in the series. I prefer VII over its remake. I imagined that Midgar could be its own disc, but the remake took that idea too far and bloated it. The original doesn't waste your time and doesn't pull its punches. It also has some really effective environmental storytelling that makes Midgar feel dystopian and corrupt. The Remake's Midgar feels a bit too sanitized in comparison. Wall Market also felt like a sleazy den of debauchery in the original and it didn't in the remake; the remake's Market is saved by its new characters, especially Andrea. Jessie was too much and didn't feel like she fit AVALANCHE, though I appreciated the attempt to flesh her out since I liked her in the original. Sephiroth was no good in the remake, but he was the ultimate example of style over substance in the original, so I'm hoping the sequels make him menacing and compelling instead of Cloud's creepy stalker (at least he isn't JENOVA's pawn!) The remake wasn't all negative: Tifa was top notch from minute 1 where she took some time to make a statement in the original, Aerith is fantastic until she gets involved with the meta plot, Barrett and Cloud were translated from the original quite seamlessly, the gameplay is awesome for all four characters and the graphics are amazing. If it was more concise and made Midgar darker (literally and figuratively), it'd probs be my fave even with the meta plot not being the best. VII is my favourite if only because its story peaks really, really high. It's a bit lacking gameplay wise compared to V, X or XII and there are some slumps here and there with its pacing. Tales of Symphonia does X's story and themes a lot better, but X's atmosphere and gameplay is still great. IX is the perfect distillation of Final Fantasy and the Active Time Events should have become an FF staple. It's also the most consistently good FF through Disc 2 (where I stopped), its only blemish is that Quina is just comic relief instead of a real character. I only played a few hours of VIII but I really enjoyed the junction system and Triple Triad, and Squall, Zell, Selphie and Rinoa are neat so far. Quistis, Seifer and Laguna are pretty corny, though. We'll see if its rep as divisive is deserved. IV is decent, but it shows its age. Cecil and Rydia are still great, Golbez was cool and Zeromus was an intense final boss, but the way it wrote off its characters didn't have the appropriate payoff. I didn't enjoy Tactics as much as Tactics Advance. I also want to get through XIV since my experience was playing a bit and losing to the internet and FF Origin since I only played its demo and I'm a fan of Nioh 1/2. This was a long comment, but I appreciate that you shared your thoughts in such a respectful way; it made low placements for games like V or XII much more palatable.
I think the general theme that connects them is most of the best ones start off with small simple plots even if they happen to be packed full of action. In most of the open world games until you get farther in most places are peaceful and happy, living despite the odds at least until the destruction becomes overwhelming Even ones like 13 with questionable plots are still bound around Lightning and Snow trying to save Serah, but the plot failed on the rest of the cast because they didn't really have an aim besides not dying
World building is most important for me, so I put 7 at the top. Character focus puts 6 in my number two spot. Similarities within 9 and 4 have them tied for spots three and four, but if I had to choose, I’d give 9 the edge. 10 gets my fifth spot. Solid game all around, but I find Tidus a little too whiny and childish, what with his “this is my story” nonsense far too often. It’s really Yuna’s story imo, but its mini-games and endgame extra content are top tier.
Interestingly enough I love worldbuilding too, just don’t really agree that 7’s is the best or puts it at the top due to that. I think 9, 10, 12 and 14 all have more interesting or rich worldbuilding than 7 personally.
@@Aleczandxr It’s the most organically structured of them is the reason I love it. And by that I mean, while the ones you mentioned are more fantasy-like and celestial, I appreciate 7 for being more rooted in our reality and relatable in terms of how our world is structured while it’s also not all spoon-fed to us. The planet is a living body just like our bodies, it releases the weapons just like our bodies release macrophages, and the planet is being mined of its life and resources just like ours, to name just a few points. But I understand that distinction is simply personal preference. However, the term “world building” and its definition the way I use it is also something I need to specify for you to keep things clear. It does, and should, go deeper than how rich a world is. Yes FF7 gives fair explanation to how things are and not simply “that things are” (which makes it feel more connected to reality, which yes some people easily might not prefer), but what separates its world building is how it sows the seeds of its storytelling in a way that those others simply haven’t matched (can’t speak to FF14’s story however since I always hard pass on MMO’s). It gives us information while much of the rest is meant for us to deduce and decipher. It does not spell every little thing out during our journey. It’s not simply about what is shown to us in a piece if media, but how it’s shown. Best example of this is Dark Souls 1, as I believe it has some of the strongest world building in gaming history. If you’ve played that and are a world building fan, you must know exactly what I’m talking about. Because it’s not simply a world for you to run around in and enjoy (even if that may be enough for some of course), it’s a world that drops you in a place that isn’t just rich in lore and theme, but you don’t even know that that’s what it is. You start reading its in-game content, seeing its environmental clues, piecing things together in a way that brings it much closer to life than if a cutscene or character NPC just funneled you all the pieces of information. That’s world building. That’s your brain observing, filling in the gaps, and making the world come to life. Yes it’s still a preference as to whether you like fantasy or sci-fi auras more regarding FF7 because it definitely starts veering more towards sci-fi than those other titles since it chooses to explain itself, but those other titles don’t really not (yes I’m using a double negative) completely spell things out to you. And I still brought you a fantasy-based example in Dark Souls 1 which has some of the best world building ever seen in a videogame. That is not at all to say that the games you mentioned are not rich worlds by any means, or without relatable themes, but simply to make my point that I believe the term “world building” isn’t just about a rich world (it’s clearly a prerequisite). It’s also about how that world unfolds in front out you and what’s left for the player to piece together and bring to life on their own. I do prefer 7’s strategy of how it shares some and makes us piece the rest compared to DS1’s strategy where it shares 1% and asks us to figure out the remaining 99%, but I still adore both strategies for giving the player more to work with on their own that then transcends the medium and makes those worlds feel alive long after their completion. P.S. FF9 is amazing, and is the one I’d be most lenient to here of the games you mentioned, since it was Sakaguchi’s swan song with Square and was an amalgamation of so many great things from the previous entries.
I’m aware that worldbuilding doesn’t only encapsulate how rich a setting is. I was simply using that as a primary reason for why I think they’re superior. Note that I also said “more interesting,” and not just rich. I also think that you’re underselling the use of implications in settings like Gaia and Spira, but meh.
@@BPlxyify lol that’s fine, we can’t like all the same things. Playing 9 now and seeing how I feel on my third play thru. I absolutely love it but want to see how I view it now.
Thanks for giving 14 the credit it deserves. This franchise was meant to have a different favorite for everyone. Even with Zelda, it's gotten little predictable with Ocarina and Breath of Wild. With FF, it's a good thing everyone's Top 3 or 5 is different because there is so much to choose from and rightfully so!
Amazing video tbh. my personal fave is and will be 12, it was my introduction not only to the series, but to rpg games as a genre. Yeah it had flaws, like gambit, the main character, the slow phase at the end and more, but the graphics, the enemies, the cutscenes, b a l t h i e r, soundtrack and more make me just forget about the flaws. Without it I really doubt I would have gotten so into the genre, so I'm thankful it exists.
Ah, yeah. I love FF5, it's one of my favorites, but if you're in it for the story, it will rank low for sure. In a way, I just look at it as a fun swashbuckling adventure, but that's about it.
Final Fantasy IX is my favorite game of all time, though I definitely have a little nostalgia bias. The characters were sublime, the overall themes were glorious, the music was transcendent, and the setting was amazing. Even replaying it in 2023, I find myself deeply moved by the character arcs and themes. Final Fantasy IX is a celebration - of the series, and of the value of life. IX was the first game to really make me philosophize about things like mortality, what it means to be human, emotions, connections with others, and destiny. It definitely had issues, but for me the narrative and characters alone make it one of my favorites ever. If FFIX ever got a remake like FFVII, I think it would finally get the respect it deserves, because sadly it didn’t perform well sandwiched between FFVII in a time where cyberpunk dystopias were in, and FFX which basically redefined the JRPG genre as a whole. Not to mention that it released on the dying PS1 shortly before the PS2 would replace it. I’m so passionate about this game, it’s a lifelong love for me and I would do so much to see a high quality remake. Thanks for the video AJ!
I've only played 9, 10, 13, 14, 15 and crystal chronicles (and theatrythyms if those count) and have to agree with your top 2. My top 2 are the exact same as yours. Going in i never expected 14 to be as amazing as it was.
I am surprised to see 4 so low but the beauty of ff is that you cannot really predict who will like each chapter. There's no "if you liked x you will also like y". Some will say they liked one the most because of the nostalgia and if they play it again they may rethink it. Some just replay the same one over and over again (I made a perfect save in my third replay of 12 and I can't wait to do ng+, but first let's do a third replay of 10! Just waiting for mu fourth replay of 4! 😂). It's not my all time favourite videogame franchise (it was in the past) but it's so fascinating!
Glad to hear your takes on my favorite video game franchise as well, and has been ingrained in some of my usernames, passwords, and art ever since I was 7 years old. I met my partner because of this series because of my long tangents about Final Fantasy, so my friend introduced me to her sister that had the same quirk. My completed FF games are somewhat mirrored to yours, but it is in the opposite order: 1. FF15 2. FF5 3. FF8 4. FF9 5. FF10 6. FF7: Crisis Core 7. FF7 8. FF6 9. FF14 (Up to Dawntrail) 10. FF12 11. FFTA 12. FF1 I share the same sentiment that I love all of these games and the ones at the bottom of my list are still games I enjoyed as well. I thought it was interesting that your opinion of FF15's reliance on post-release content soured (maybe not so harshly) your experience, while FF14 ended up becoming your favorite because of it. For me, FF15's Comrades & Episode Ignis/Ardyn elevated it from 6th place to 1st, while FF14 elevated from "the worst game I've ever played" to maybe 8th due to the great story for Shadowbringers and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann expansions. I've seen numerous videos of yours and have been subscribed through several years, my favorite being your video about Monster. I would be interested in hearing about your opinion of the Valkyrie Profile series and one of its villains, Lezard Valeth, if you've played that series.
I personally wouldn’t consider the expansions in FFXIV to be post-release content with ARR as the base personally, to me they are more the story than ARR. I think the 15 situation is far different. Also, 15’s extra content didn’t sour my opinion of it at all, it just didn’t salvage much of the criticisms I had. Haven’t played Valkyria Chronicles, sorry!
Having FF IX this high makes you incredible based, the characters dealing with their identity or you could also say finding their new identity was excellent executed in this game and Zidanes story really resonated to me🙌
FF7R was a complete surprise, I honestly expected the game to be mediocre at best and last about 10 hours. To my surprise it was pretty fun and didn't stretch it much or add filler but truly expanded on the characters and lore, case in point who gave a crap about Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie before. I believe my thoughts as a kid were "Thanks for your sacrifice bro"
@tylerjames9768 They added coherent and organic content that enhanced previously established aspects of FFVII, that's not filler, that's expansion and enhancement, part and parcel of what makes a remake such instead of a simple graphical update. The only flaw of FFVIIR is how it suddenly deviates from the original story and becomes a reimagining of FFVII, which means the next part in the trilogy is likely to be very different from the original and, since I don't trust Nomura anymore, quite likely disappointing.
@tylerjames97682 dragging parts of the game (which still include amazing characters and good dialogue between them) doesn’t take away how great the rest of the game is in terms of combat, characters, music etc
I will never understand the amount of hate FFXV gets, to me it's one of the few FF games that really spoke to my core. Beautiful themes, always something interesting to do, different types of missions to kept the interest up, a real bond with your crew that talk to you and do stuff with you, a charismatic villain that you can empathize with, some of the best cutscenes ever... It has a lot of really great stuff, but hey I've just played FFXV and FFXVI (FFVII-R too but haven't finished it yet) so I can't really compare. It's just that this one is one of my favorite games ever.
I wish you included FF XI as well. That game is such a memorable one when you first enter the world of Vana'diel. You will always remember your pledged home's music for the rest of your life if you were deeply involved in the game (The Fedration of Windurst!)
May as well detail my FF Journey here. I started with FF7R and I don’t regret that at all! Wow, on my top 3 video games list. Just…so fun, engaging, great ost. It’s so great that honestly,(hot take alert) I probably won’t play the og until after this Remake project is done. I am strapped in on the R Train! Then I had to choose a 2nd FF game. So I chose to come to videos like these: FF rankings. I noticed 2 trends: 1. 6,7,9 are seen as the most beloved by people. Which is neat. And I respect it. But(respectfully, I am no means trying to dis the games) I have been disappointed by “GOAT video games” (ocarina) But I didn’t have to look far to see… 2.FFX is…consistently loved by a lot of people. It is either in the middle on a list or just shy outside the top 3. After seeing that consistency arcoss so many people I choose that as my next FF game. Still playing it, just beat Geneaux, and…yeah, y’all weren’t lying, this game is pretty good. Engaging as all heck. Story and location is interesting to live and figure out and….what is this ost!?! Gosh dang!! To zanarkand, Tidus theme, and Hurry(remastered version) are climbing on up my video game ost favorite lists. Also I know Chrono Trigger isn’t a FF game but…it kinda related. Also playing it currently as well and…yeah it’s really great! Just escaped jail for my false imprisonment. To everyone reading: what should be my 3rd FF? Leaning toward FF8 cause it controversial, and I like controversial. But I could be persuaded to play another game next. To Aleczandxr: Great videos, been watching you for a long time. Great profile pic(I like sunsets) “Keep doing you” is what I want to say most to you. I love this list. Makes me wanna play all of these games. I know people do/may have problems with your FF list. It may/does have hot takes in it, but who cares? It’s your list and you have love to the games. So don’t mind them. (Wow this post was….long lol)
I have a very similar experience as I started FF7 Remake in January this year and absolutely fell in love. My second game was FFX as well and have since played and finished FF16 and am now playing Crisis Core Reunion in preparation for FF7 Rebirth. I would recommend playing Crisis Core if you’re interested in who this Zack character is, if you want to avoid al spoilers for Rebirth maybe don’t even though I think Crisis Core actually enhances the experience for the Remake trilogy. I’m curious, did you play any FF games since X?
My first FF was FF Tactics Advance. Then FFX, XIII and XII I really enjoyed them all though I would put X at first place for the emotional investment and XII on 2nd place for worldbuilding and combat (I know many don’t like it but I loved the gambit-system)
9 was my first ever FF. Bought it based on the sill image of Zidane alone and it did not disappoint one bit. 10 came after and raised the bar im every department. Extremely formative experiences for a 10-12 year old and glad to say they’ve held up all this time upon replay. Best ost too.
My fave FF’s are the ones that push non-traditional medieval fantasy and colorful casts (atleast a few chars with sum dark melanin lol) like 10 referencing Pacific Island culture and 7 & 13’s cyber punk/post apocalyptic look and including a black char but even 15’s mix of modern tech with the classic medieval trope
14 is wonderful. Not sure how it’ll hold up on replay but it is an absolute behemoth of a video game when it comes to story, characters and music. It’s more than earned its reputation as a series classic.
I feel like 14 just gets better on replay. Sure, the flaws become more apparent, but so do all the small things that make it such an amazing experience. For this reason, I don’t think I’ll ever tire of watching streamers experience the game for the first time.
I found myself loving A realm reborn much more on retrospective than in my first run, being able to know how all these plot poitns will eventually lead up to, and also realizing how early they were already foreshadowed, just makes this section of the story all the more enjoyable because you know and care for this world already, so you're already invested in what's going on. Compared to a new player who isn't and doesn't know why any of these dialogues matter and probably will skim through.
I would be interested in you playing 13 someday. That really contends with 15 as "most flawed" in the franchise (which says a lot; 15 was supposed to be a spinoff of 13 and not a true main title). Personally I'd put it around 5 for a similar reason that it's pretty fun overall, it just has a story that's almost impossible to follow. Never played the sequels, though. I've only played the GBA ports (so, 1-6 minus 3) and 13 and 4 is so good. It speaks volumes about how good the franchise is when it's respected as a revolutionary and genuinely great game but has fallen towards the bottom of the list compared to many that came after it. But that's also a good thing because 4 built a lot of what would make those later games great.
I always find choosing an order really difficult, I think for now mine would be 1) FF7 2) FF10 3) FF7: Remake 4) FF14 5) FF13-2 6) FF4 7) FF8 8) FF7 Crisis Core 9) FF11 (purely on nostalgia) 10) FF15 11) FF6 12) FF13 13) World of FF 14) FF9 15) FF7 DoC 16) FF13-Lightning Returns Special Mention: OG Chocobo Racing which would honestly be top 10. Not Played/completed: 1, 2, 3, 5, 10-2, 12, SoP
@@badmeetsevil6163 6 I found to be okay, nothing about the characters or story stood out to me though, much prefer 4 in that regard. And 9 I do not understand how that game has anywhere near the amount of praise it does. The gameplay is atrocious, the story is just dull, the characters besides Vivi are meh, Quina actively ruining any scene they shove themselves into, it's easily my least favourite mainline FF from the ones I've played.
My biggest problem with the Final Fantasy series, many of the games don't end happily Not necessarily a bad thing, but I'm a romantic at heart apparently
@@andyrangel7383 13-2, 10, 15, 7 (until the movie people debated if humans were wiped out by holy), Crisis Core more than half I've played have ended tragically
@@hcook1023 I've only played 10 and 7 from the ones you listed. Yeah, 10 was more bittersweet than sad. When it comes to 7, one out of the two directors actually intended for that to be the ending. I think that would have been the better ending. I find the idea that even if they "died" to be beautiful. Why? Because they would have all gone into the lifestream genuinely succeeding their mission; the genuine part being that it was for the planet and nothing else. Even if they died, they will still exist within the planet's core or lifestream, and would continually flow till the end of time. That is what I interpreted. I found it to be amazing, but to each their own. :)
It's strange to me that you say this is your favorite series and you haven't played the first one but you played stranger to paradise which is technically a prequel to the original FF there's a lot of call backs and references that you most likely missed out on
@@Aleczandxr The story is as bare bones as you can get ik because it's a product of it's time but it's still fun for what it is and it's interesting seeing how much the series has evolved since then (PSP version is the best imo) also I highly recommend The Dissidia series (not so much NT but the rest are really good) it has an interesting story, lots of playable characters throughout the series and pretty good combat I think any FF fan should play it at least once
My least favourite (of the ones ive played) was 15, the camping out and long car journeys where you just have to put the controller down and wait really wore on my patience. This may not have been as much an issue if you had more freedom of control in this situation 7 or 9 are my favourites. 13 I feel is the most underrated, yeah it's linear and the first few hours are a slog to get through, also the story is abit convoluted but the further you get into it it does get better even if it isn't one of the top tier games and the graphics and soundtrack are amazing
4, ironically, is the first one I played, but also one of the two that I've yet to finish. It - as well as Tactics Advanced - I got deep into the game, hit a wall, and then could never get past it back in the initial playthrough, and then never got back to that point in subsequent replays. But the characters - especially Rydia and Edge - are forever in my brain, somewhere. PS, thank you for using the 3DS remake's opening cinematic. It's so freaking gorgeous, and I love it. Edit: And I know I'm in the minority with this opinion, but I just can't get into 9, largely because of the art style. It just looks bad to me, and pulls me out.
Since you tend to focus on and deep dive on characters, I really wonder what you'll think of FF13 when you finally get to it. I'm also morbidly curious how you'll think of Type 0.
FF4 is not my favorite FF game but it's easily the one I recommend the most to anybody. It's just, imo, the easiest FF to get into. It has a set cast of interesting characters, a fun gameplay system that is easily understandable, and a story that takes enough turns to keep anyone invested throughout. Other FF games are arguably better in individual departments, such as FFV with it's job system or FF6 with it's large cast of characters and engaging plotline, but FF4 is so good in so many areas overll that it makes it really easy as an entry point to the franchise.
No, I just didn’t cover every single one. I streamed them all though, so I’d recommend following me on Twitch for those sorts of discussions so you don’t miss them!
My first and fav is 7. Also love 9,10 and tactics very much. 16 is shaping up to be very good too. I did actualy enjoy 15 as well, 12 I didn’t like at first but it grew on me. 8…I enjoy but Inkt as much as some of the others
Just to leave a bit of FF11 representation: solid game for its time, still relevant in its contribution to the franchise, exceptional in making you feel like a tiny part in a huge world, and makes you earn your way thru instead of shying away from inconvenience and just handing the player everything to trivialize the world. An explorer's paradise but the bane of modern gamer's comfort zone. You still have to buy maps of areas for Ramuh's sake lol
Thank you for this video, very nice comments you made!! My Ranking of Main Installments if anyone cares lol. I cannot yet Rank XVI (still playing it) or XI (not enough knowledge to judge it... YET). 1) XIV 2) VIII 3) VII 4) V 5) XII 6) I 7) IX 8) IV 9) VI 10) XV 11) III 12) II 13) X 14) XIII 15) XIV And yes, XIV is the best (ARR) and the worst at the same time (1.0). I LOVE FINAL FANTASY!!! ALL OF THEM!!!!! PS: If we added Side Instalments, DUODECIM would be #2 above VIII for me. :)
Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like Strangers of Paradise was a wasted opportunity for not only a prequel to Final Fantasy I, but also the series’ 35th Anniversary. I think I should do a video on it, I mean it’s not like there’s going to be more DLC after the Season Pass.
Have played 1-Fun, thats it just fun 3-Dint finish 3 cuz the last bit is just a nigthmare but i loved jobs 4- Very good 5-Much fun, I prefer complex stories but if a game has great gameplay and just decent story i am all in, favorite gameplay 6-Epic and bautiful 7-Best story from the ones i have played so far Cloud is one of my favorite protgs in videogames 8-Dropped 8 at the middle but dunno maybe i will replay it one day, yeah music is so good and liked Squall I mostly just had in mind that i want to play IX and X eventually but you made me really curious about XIV even though its kinda intimidating by the length and cuz i have never touched a MMORPG in my life
AJ, some of the comments you occasionally get are such negative (unneeded, most importantly) energy lmao. Witnessing them here for the first time :P Really enjoyed your takes and they've persuaded me to try some more entries. Final Fantasy is an inspirational video game series and each one has some beautiful element to offer.
LOL yeah, it’s fine though. I was expecting some rudeness and pushback on this video, especially with 7 lower than most would put it, etc. So glad you enjoyed!
Started from FF7 (which is still my Favourite to this day). 7 - 10 were brilliant, 12 very underrated, 13 and 15 were terrible imo and made me nearly fall out of love with FF. However, FF7R and FF16 have brought me back.
I think Final Fantasy 8 has the best characters Spoiler: There's a moment when a soldier misses a kill because it couldn't bring himself to kill the target (somebody important to him), but it's played off as him choking on the pressure until 2/3 of the way through
As a kid, 8 was my favorite but later on realized it was nostalgia that made me think it was the best. Then I realized the junction system was trash as well as it was bs that enemies lvled up with you when you grinded making it pointless. Also sucks that you can easily be OP if you work the system. Now, 12 is easily my favorite because of its awesome voice acting, the deep and extensive lore, grinding and getting better rewards thru chains, the hunts!!, the plot, all the armor options, the gambit system, the soundtrack!!, just awesome overall 😊
You saved II and XI for among the last you're going to play? They're probably going to both give you a rough time after everything else. My own favorites are VI, IX and XII, praise be to Hiroyuki Ito.
@@Aleczandxr I mean, as far as my experience with those goes, which may or may not help you decide, III is great as a video game at least, although its story is rather drab. It's executed well-enough but there's not much potential for emotional connection there in my opinion. It's kind of a proto-FF5 in that way. FF1 though more erratic I also think is satisfying enough gampelay-wise. Meanwhile, FF2 is has extremely grating mechanics and possibly the worst level design I've ever seen in a console RPG (give or take XIII's outright _absence_ of level design, which I'm not very fond of either), and FF11 is everything I despise about MMORPG design as a whole (as in, it's more of a Skinner Box machine serving as a springboard for social media functionality than it is a normal video game) , making it my least favorite entry by a long shot.
VII /VII Remake > 6 > 4 > 8 > 10 > Crisis Core > Tactics > 13 > 5 > 3 > 1 > 15 > 2 I didn't play the expansions for XV, nor watch/read any supplemental material. It severely suffers as a standalone game. People might argue the expansions fix it. But my stance is, I should've loved the base game to convince me to buy more. Not buy more to convince myself it was worth it.
5 for me has S tier combat, but as you said it depends on what metric you are judging it by. Honestly I don't even remember anything about FF5 story (last played in 1999), so the story is probably weaker than most. I do remember nolifing several different job combinations though I prioritize gameplay over story (but story is still important at #2). This is why I have games like 5, 10-2, 13 trilogy, and 12 in S tier since the gameplay is amazing in all of them
For me 6-9 was the Peak of the Franchise. 10 had great Gameplay but the rest of it wasnt my cup of tea and after that it went downhill, havent touched anything after 10.
Man, I always hear people talk about the greatness of FF XIV's story and characters, but I can't get myself to play a MMO, it's just not my type of game sadly :(
Here here brother im 26 now and i quite literally grew up on these games. the only ones i havent played are ff9 ff11 and ff14 (not a huge mmo fan if it aint RuneScape). And ff10 is my favorite with 7 coming in close second.
My relationship with Final Fantasy is chequered, to be honest. I haven't played any of the games prior to FF6, which I thought was very good (not as good as Chrono Trigger, but still). FF7 I enjoyed well enough but it never blew me away and it hasn't exactly aged that well; the remake does an excellent job with some things but they ultimately fumble when it comes to pacing and story. FF8 and FF9 I really don't like. I thought FF8 was a mess in almost every way from beginning to end, and while I don't dislike 9 to the same degree, I thought it was a massive meh. It was charming, a handful of interesting characters (a few bad characters, too) and the artstyle is phenomenal and it has aged wonderfully, but the story is nonsense and the gameplay feels very slow. Great idea, average execution. FF10 is a masterpiece in every single way, and by far the best single-player Final Fantasy alongside FF6 (X-2 is also fantastic in terms of gameplay). FF11 is an MMO that I have not played. FF12 was a grand adventure and whilst I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it, having spent over 150 hours going through most of the game's content, it doesn't exactly have the most engaging story & characters. Cool world, though. FF13 is decent, definitely not as bad as people make it out to be, but not particularly good, either. Same goes for the sequels. FF14 is an interesting one: very bland to begin with, especially since I don't like MMOs in general, but from Shadowbringers onwards, it has a phenomenal narrative. It says a lot that an MMO can be one of my favourite FFs by the time I reached the end of Endwalker. FF15 can bite me, that game sucks, totally incomplete and didn't make me feel anything. FF7 Remake did everything that game did and did it better. The only game in the series worse than it is FF8. I'd even play FF13 over 15.
"a couple" of annoying fake out deaths, he says. More party characters had these than didn't! That's like, the one thing that drives me crazy with that entry, and from what I can tell, I'm far from alone... In fact, it may be the main thing that overall is disliked about 4 (releveling Cecil being a close second). I will say that I think the sheer number of fake outs in 4, added to the swap out of Galuf and Krile in 5, plus the only major deaths in 6 being the couple of secondary characters in Leo and Cid, all combined to setup the absolute shock that engulfed the ff playing world when the death in 7 occurs-and further were the reason that so many rumors of it being reversible propagated in the aftermath.
I’m pretty inexperienced in Final Fantasy, but I’ve played 1 and 4 all the way through, and played a bit of 3, 5, 7. And I really like all of the games, but I find the series that get both the game and story right to be the best. I tend to rate higher series that excel in something, rather than a specific thing about a piece of media I prefer. So I will prefer something like 5 which excels in what it does more than 4. For example I’ve heard that 6 had some weak gameplay, but the story is top tier, so I will also consider it succeeding, but it also has some more flaws than 5. As a person who hasn’t played it, I cannot really tell. Also I just love Final Fantasy rankings, but I would prefer 4 and 5 a little higher.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake has some really great character work... until the end. The final 5% of Remake is bafflingly bad with how it handles its characters and has them just... doing things. Lol. The same is true for Sephiroth. Sephiroth is a great villain in 7 but in Remake he absolutely is a bottom tier FF villain. The fan service fight with him at the end when he isn't really a character here is also insulting. Agree with most of the other list tho, besides 4 being so low! Lol
The end of 7 Remake is fantastic IMO! Talked about it to a great extent in my long form analytical review, I think it’s excellent on basically every level. Also highly disagree with Sephiroth, for reasons I explained in that video as well.
Ive not played them all but of the ones I have played and finished (or put ridiculous hours into like 14). From bottom to top it would be 2, Dirge of Cerberus, 12, (easily the three worst by a mile for me) 3, Type 0, 1, 13-2, Crystal Chronicles, 15, Crisis core, 13, 5 (largely not worth bothering with imo but not awful) 10-2, VII remake, World of Final Fantasy, 14, (good but not must plays) 9, 8, FF tactics, 4, 6,10, 7 (Best in the series and the games that made the brand what it is). Might have forgotten some but those are the ones off the top of my head except the Dissidia games which I purposely left off because of how different they are.
I honestly feel like 14 is kinda the weakest in terms of story for Final Fantasy.. shadowbringers is good yes but FF6,9,12 and Tactics good? No man not even close. To each their own though.
Not a chance for me. The Shadowbringers/Endwalker pair is only rivaled by 9, but it’s still better IMO. While it’s miles better than 12, and comfortably better than 6 and Tactics, as much as I like/love them.
I've now finished Final Fantasy XVI and it would be number 9 or 10 on this list!
Just in case it isn't assumed knowledge, big visual spoilers for all of the games listed here!
I really want to get your thoughts on the new ff7 rebirth trailer and predictions.
How do you feel about Final Fantasy IX and X getting a remake in the future?
@@faidou9954 There are no substantial sources saying that X is getting one.
How about Rebirth?! I've not seen anything from you about it
Final fantasy 6 to 10 are all truly beautiful experiences sinking you into their beautiful worlds and character arcs
The Water theme of FFX was so beautifully done.
Agreed!
As is FFI-V + FFXI-XVI!
:)
You missed out on IV.
Personally, i did not like 8, but overall pretty much all 16 games were masterpieces, my Favorites are 7,1,16.
So far, i played 6 7 9 15 16, all are peak, i still haven't finished 8 and 9 tho
Something I love about Final Fantasy 9 is the music reminds me of Spice and Wolf, one of the most underrated series
I've been wanting to get into FF and was hoping to use this video to help me figure out which one to try first and I think you just sold me on trying 9. Spice and Wolf is one of my favorite series and I adored the music in it.
@@MrCanadianAviator try the moguri mod. It updates a lot of the backgrounds to hd and wide-screen. Also brings back PS1 fonts if you want.
Here's hoping the new anime actually adapts the entire light novel series instead of almost 1/4th of it like the OG series did.
As a huge fan of the series i always enjoy seeing these lists! Its always fun to discuss why people love certain titles. 9, 10 and 12 are my three favorites!
The first final fantasy I played was 13, despite what all the haters say that game has a special place in my heart. I could still replay it today if my backlog wasn't so huge
I think XIII-2 has way better story than XIII. In fact, XIII-2 is one of my favorites.
I don’t like it, but if you do don’t let anyone make you feel bad for it. The first one you play in the series is always special
I've replayed about 4 times. I think the paradigm shift if polished up is the perfect in between if turn based and modern action based
Watching Aleczandxr finish FF14 on stream was a great watching experience.
Glad you enjoyed, as I'm sure you can tell it quite literally changed my life :)
Is there anywhere to see all the vods?
Twitch as always, or my VOD channel here on UA-cam, which is linked in my main page.
@@Aleczandxroh boy....time to binge
Ff7 remake above OG 7 is WILD
I’ve explained my reasoning at great length in my analysis video :)
Nah. It's better in a lot of ways imo. OG7 isn't bad, of course. Remake is just better in almost every way
@@nezkeys79Except for the hackneyed ending.
I remember 10 years ago it's was common to hear that Skyrim saved people's lives because it gave people with self harming thoughts a goal and literally work/play out of it
You know XIV is going to keep going right?
We'll be back when ever a new expansion are out.
Some very surprising placements, I didn't totally agree but I understood where you were coming from.
Sephiroth was no good in the remake, but he was the ultimate example of style over substance in the original, so I'm hoping the sequels make him menacing and compelling instead of Cloud's creepy stalker (at least he isn't JENOVA's pawn!)
The remake wasn't all negative: Tifa was top notch from minute 1 where she took some time to make a statement in the original, Aerith is fantastic until she gets involved with the meta plot, Barrett and Cloud were translated from the original quite seamlessly, the gameplay is awesome for all four characters and the graphics are amazing.
In most of the open world games until you get farther in most places are peaceful and happy, living despite the odds at least until the destruction becomes overwhelming
Even ones like 13 with questionable plots are still bound around Lightning and Snow trying to save Serah, but the plot failed on the rest of the cast because they didn't really have an aim besides not dying
FF8 is my favorite of all time, love the world, characters, music and anything else especially the ragnaork. Unbelievable game and super fun!
I'm the oddball. But I couldn't get into 9, despite everyone saying it's the best. Likewise I love 8, which everyone else seems to hate. 🤷🤷
@@BPlxyify lol that’s fine, we can’t like all the same things. Playing 9 now and seeing how I feel on my third play thru. I absolutely love it but want to see how I view it now.
@@BPlxyify Hey, I don't like 8 or 9 haha. Most people love one or the other, I hate both lol.
Glad you enjoyed! 12 is an awesome pick, it’s super unique within the franchise for a bunch of reasons.
Ah, yeah. I love FF5, it's one of my favorites, but if you're in it for the story, it will rank low for sure. In a way, I just look at it as a fun swashbuckling adventure, but that's about it.
Somewhat. Even the most reality-breaking swashbuckling flicks are rarely as absurd as FF5... but yeah, amazing game.
For sure. Super well-designed given the intent, though!
I want a FF6 remake in the same way FF7 was remade badly.
Right on time for FFXVI !! Im curious what ur thoughts will be on it. How're u finding it so far man?
60% through and I’m enjoying it! I’ve been posting occasional updates on Twitter in case you’re interested!
I've only played 9, 10, 13, 14, 15 and crystal chronicles (and theatrythyms if those count) and have to agree with your top 2. My top 2 are the exact same as yours. Going in i never expected 14 to be as amazing as it was.
Yes as a avid gamer, FF14 is not only my favorite FF, but my favrite game of all time.
For me highest would be
IX, X, VII, XII, VI, XIII-2, XV, XIII, V.
Excited for XVI
Having only played 10 and 13 for real i don't have much personal input here. Very interesting to hear yours though!
Go back and play X-2, XIII, XIII-2, Lightning Returns. They are all highly underrated and under appreciated.
Ehhh, maybe one day but not a priority
@@Aleczandxrall well and good. Just know that the quality is there.
😂). It's not my all time favourite videogame franchise (it was in the past) but it's so fascinating!
t'was an honor to thwart the final day with you sir o7
Glad to hear your takes on my favorite video game franchise as well, and has been ingrained in some of my usernames, passwords, and art ever since I was 7 years old. I met my partner because of this series because of my long tangents about Final Fantasy, so my friend introduced me to her sister that had the same quirk.
My completed FF games are somewhat mirrored to yours, but it is in the opposite order:
1. FF15
2. FF5
3. FF8
4. FF9
5. FF10
6. FF7: Crisis Core
7. FF7
8. FF6
9. FF14 (Up to Dawntrail)
10. FF12
11. FFTA
12. FF1
I share the same sentiment that I love all of these games and the ones at the bottom of my list are still games I enjoyed as well.
Having FF IX this high makes you incredible based, the characters dealing with their identity or you could also say finding their new identity was excellent executed in this game and Zidanes story really resonated to me🙌
10 is king for me personally
lol every single comment below mentions a different game as their favourite
@tylerjames9768 then I don’t know what to tell you, how are Cloud Barret Tifa and Aerith not good characters
Awesome! I have a lot of appreciation for it and definitely see why it’s a strong favourite for you!
I wish you included FF XI as well. That game is such a memorable one when you first enter the world of Vana'diel. You will always remember your pledged home's music for the rest of your life if you were deeply involved in the game (The Fedration of Windurst!)
Haven’t played it, so couldn’t include it!
I noticed 2 trends:
1. 6,7,9 are seen as the most beloved by people.
Which is neat. And I respect it. But(respectfully, I am no means trying to dis the games) I have been disappointed by “GOAT video games” (ocarina)
But I didn’t have to look far to see…
2.FFX is…consistently loved by a lot of people.
Great profile pic(I like sunsets)
“Keep doing you” is what I want to say most to you.
I love this list. Makes me wanna play all of these games.
I know people do/may have problems with your FF list. It may/does have hot takes in it, but who cares? It’s your list and you have love to the games. So don’t mind them.
(Wow this post was….long lol)
Absolutely checkout FF16 if you have a PS5.
@@Thats-What-We-DewwwwwI unfortunately do not have a ps5
@@victor_734no, I am still actually playing through X
Love your channel and work man!😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Thank you for watching!
@@Aleczandxr always
My first FF was FF Tactics Advance. Then FFX, XIII and XII
I really enjoyed them all though I would put X at first place for the emotional investment and XII on 2nd place for worldbuilding and combat (I know many don’t like it but I loved the gambit-system)
9 was my first ever FF. Bought it based on the sill image of Zidane alone and it did not disappoint one bit.
10 came after and raised the bar im every department.
Extremely formative experiences for a 10-12 year old and glad to say they’ve held up all this time upon replay. Best ost too.
Great list, almost identical to mine except V is higher and VIII is lower. This video made me pick up XIV on trial.
Enjoy XIV!
FF14 is even better on replay, watching other people goes through MSQ hit the same as the first time we goes through it.
The later expansions make ARR better so I can imagine that a replay would be an improved experience personally!
13 is a good time, it's not a masterpiece but people really overhate it.
@@seemonuzumaki723 I agree! I haven't played it since the PS3 days but I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it given its reputation.
I always find choosing an order really difficult, I think for now mine would be
1) FF7
2) FF10
3) FF7: Remake
4) FF14
5) FF13-2
6) FF4
7) FF8
8) FF7 Crisis Core
9) FF11 (purely on nostalgia)
10) FF15
11) FF6
12) FF13
13) World of FF
14) FF9
15) FF7 DoC
16) FF13-Lightning Returns
Special Mention: OG Chocobo Racing which would honestly be top 10.
Not Played/completed: 1, 2, 3, 5, 10-2, 12, SoP
Finally a list can respect here i would only swap VII and X giving FFIV the third place the rest seems really on point for most part
Huh? Why are FF6 and FF9 so low???
@@badmeetsevil6163 6 I found to be okay, nothing about the characters or story stood out to me though, much prefer 4 in that regard. And 9 I do not understand how that game has anywhere near the amount of praise it does. The gameplay is atrocious, the story is just dull, the characters besides Vivi are meh, Quina actively ruining any scene they shove themselves into, it's easily my least favourite mainline FF from the ones I've played.
My biggest problem with the Final Fantasy series, many of the games don't end happily
Not necessarily a bad thing, but I'm a romantic at heart apparently
What do you mean? A lot of the games have a positive resolution
It's strange to me that you say this is your favorite series and you haven't played the first one but you played stranger to paradise which is technically a prequel to the original FF there's a lot of call backs and references that you most likely missed out on
I know the story of I, just haven’t played it. Looked into it before SoP.
Not too interested in Dissidia at the moment, but maybe sometime in the future, thanks!
What would it take to get a video on the Mange/Anime/Move "Gantz"?
Asking someone other than me, lol. Sorry!
Great list. 7 and 10 in good spots, and shamelessly loving the Remake is a win.
Since you tend to focus on and deep dive on characters, I really wonder what you'll think of FF13 when you finally get to it. I'm also morbidly curious how you'll think of Type 0.
I’m not sure if I’ll play 13, but given it’s reputation I’m super curious how I’ll feel too!
6,7,9 and 10 are masterpices ff8 and 12 are very good.
I love this franchise but 13 was disapointing to me
FF4 is not my favorite FF game but it's easily the one I recommend the most to anybody.
I agree! To me it’s the ultimate entry point for the series, as long as the player is okay with a bit of an archaic story approach.
Meanwhile I've only played Ring of Fates...
I have still never played an FF game so you're one up on me
Great video is awesome! I have suscribed to your channel.
hi, are you going to continue the chapter reviews for hxh? i only really enjoyed hearing them from you
Maybe? But the chapters are on hiatus so obviously I can’t do them right now.
@@Aleczandxr ah i see, I couldn't find 399-400 on your channel so i wasn't sure if they'd been uploaded but coprighted or something like that
No, I just didn’t cover every single one. I streamed them all though, so I’d recommend following me on Twitch for those sorts of discussions so you don’t miss them!
@@Aleczandxr gotch, will do
My first and fav is 7.
Thank you for this.
Thank you for this video, very nice comments you made!!
My Ranking of Main Installments if anyone cares lol.
I cannot yet Rank XVI (still playing it) or XI (not enough knowledge to judge it... YET).
1) XIV
2) VIII
3) VII
4) V
5) XII
6) I
7) IX
8) IV
9) VI
10) XV
11) III
12) II
13) X
14) XIII
15) XIV
And yes, XIV is the best (ARR) and the worst at the same time (1.0).
I LOVE FINAL FANTASY!!! ALL OF THEM!!!!!
PS: If we added Side Instalments, DUODECIM would be #2 above VIII for me. :)
Love that VIII is so high! V too!
Will save this until I have percieved all that 9 has to offer but very much looking forward to getting to this down the road
It wasn't great, but it worked for what it was. Could've been better but eh.
Have played
1-Fun, thats it just fun
3-Dint finish 3 cuz the last bit is just a nigthmare but i loved jobs
4- Very good
5-Much fun, I prefer complex stories but if a game has great gameplay and just decent story i am all in, favorite gameplay
6-Epic and bautiful
7-Best story from the ones i have played so far Cloud is one of my favorite protgs in videogames
8-Dropped 8 at the middle but dunno maybe i will replay it one day, yeah music is so good and liked Squall
I mostly just had in mind that i want to play IX and X eventually but you made me really curious about XIV even though its kinda intimidating by the length and cuz i have never touched a MMORPG in my life
Great video! If you could have a FF7R type remake for either 6 or 9 which one would you rather have?
6 no question about it
6!
6 for sure
AJ, some of the comments you occasionally get are such negative (unneeded, most importantly) energy lmao. Witnessing them here for the first time :P
Really enjoyed your takes and they've persuaded me to try some more entries.
Final fantasy the living proof that video games are art
I think Final Fantasy 8 has the best characters
Spoiler:
There's a moment when a soldier misses a kill because it couldn't bring himself to kill the target (somebody important to him), but it's played off as him choking on the pressure until 2/3 of the way through
As a kid, 8 was my favorite but later on realized it was nostalgia that made me think it was the best.
No, I’m likely not gonna play any of the ones I haven’t played outside of new releases. Maybe there’s a small chance for the first three.
I’ve pretty much already decided in the medium term at least but thank you very much for the elaboration!
VII /VII Remake > 6 > 4 > 8 > 10 > Crisis Core > Tactics > 13 > 5 > 3 > 1 > 15 > 2
I didn't play the expansions for XV, nor watch/read any supplemental material.
I do remember nolifing several different job combinations though
I prioritize gameplay over story (but story is still important at #2). This is why I have games like 5, 10-2, 13 trilogy, and 12 in S tier since the gameplay is amazing in all of them
Very interesting list.
For me 6-9 was the Peak of the Franchise.
10 had great Gameplay but the rest of it wasnt my cup of tea and after that it went downhill, havent touched anything after 10.
Man, I always hear people talk about the greatness of FF XIV's story and characters, but I can't get myself to play a MMO, it's just not my type of game sadly :(
Your love of FF7R really makes me wonder what your take will be on FF13.
Not sure I’ll play it, but if I do I’m curious too!
Would you rank all the Tales games as well?
Nah, I haven’t played that many.
i want to play this but the random battle incounter rate is too high in this game
I have never played a Final Fantasy, so listening to this blindly will be fun.
I'm looking forward to pop the cherry with FF XVI, though
Here here brother im 26 now and i quite literally grew up on these games. the only ones i havent played are ff9 ff11 and ff14 (not a huge mmo fan if it aint RuneScape). And ff10 is my favorite with 7 coming in close second.
WHAT???? PLAY 9
Damn you’re missing out big time by not playing 9.
I have never played a final fantasy game before, so i have no idea what final fantasy game to start with. '-'
On these kinds of lists im always wondering if FF13 is next but this time it didnt even show up 😂
I’m pretty inexperienced in Final Fantasy, but I’ve played 1 and 4 all the way through, and played a bit of 3, 5, 7.
Never playing 1 is tragic man
Why?
100% agree with your #1 pick.
V, VIII, and Tactics are my top 3.
Love many of these games.
and my senior brother loves FF 13 and 13-2 to the core.
he always argue when i say i dont like it. hahaha
Also highly disagree with Sephiroth, for reasons I explained in that video as well.
ive played ff- 1,2,3,5,7Re, and 14
id rate them:
S-ff14
A-5 and 2(pixel remasters)
B-3
C-7Re
D-1

what about yall?
And where would 16 go? IMO Maehiro and Yoshi P have crafted a work worth at least a spot in the top 10.
FFXVI is looking to be somewhere at least in the middle of his list I bet. We'll see how it turns out all in all.
Can’t wait to get to it! May do so on stream a little bit, not sure.
Update now that I’m ~50% through the game and high-middle of the list is looking likely so far! We’ll see how the rest goes.
@Aleczandxr I thought it would be somewhere up there. Not only because it's a story centered game, but it also uses the FFXIV engine 😁
eyyyyyy another 14 enjoyer
Strangers of Paradise wasn't great but yeah it played a role.
Final fantasy X, 6 and 8 are the best for me.
