  • He guys today I wanted to talk about credit cards, these can be bad, for those who purchase items they cannot afford for those who aren't good at sticking to a budget. BUT there are ways that credit cards can be used to receive rewards, the rich and smart know this and use these tools to get free flights, air miles and rewards. So here is some info on this. Again...I'm not a financial advisor but I know a thing or two.

This is how I use my credit cards. I buy groceries, gas and other items to earn cash back rewards and points. Then I pay off the card with the money I’ve budgeted for those items before interest is charged.

I would look at financial education for the child or children. I would also look at the system of generation wealth. Trust or foundation for the family. Practice borrowing from the family wealth pot and paying interest to the pot.

In the UK, you can open a Junior ISA or ask a bank for child savings account. Last I checked with Barclays, the interest rate was 6% (around February). I just opened a junior ISA investment account for my 2 months old daughter 💞😊

I have used this method to build my credit to £5000 in total spread across a few cards. I have only used £230 to buy a tumble dryer and paying off over 3 months so i don't pay interest and i put small subscriptions like netflix on my cards and set a direct debit to pay bill in full. This keeps them active and looking like i manage my credit well. I did this over a course of 18months. I am aiming for £10,000 credit in time for getting my mortgage. That should help cover any major emergencies like needing a new boiler or the roof needs repairing.

Credit card debt-free and loving it. I use (mainly) 2 credit cards for automatic payments for subscriptions like Netflix, gifts, and personal purchases that I pay off right away. I used all the tips and committed the "don't do" as well along the way. Presently, I am paying off my car loan of $8,000. I am in my late 50s and my credit card debt was $25,000 to $30, 000. I had to move out of my rental back home and start over financially. Now I need to let my money make me money. I want to learn about investing to generate income while in retirement.

I use my credit card instead of my debit and then just pay it off in full at the end of the month. I don't spend more than I have or know I will have and then all the money I have spent convert into points/offers.

I don't have a credit card at 23, but I'm looking towards making more money outside of student finance income / Bank of family. I'm looking into more of a pre-paid card and actually building my credit line to start a business in general. Thank you for this video, it's nice to have the U.K. version of finance.

But you explained some points that I never knew of before but I intend to exercise all for the sake of building a "credit score". Thanks Patricia. XOXO

    I've done something similar.
Get a funds transfer into your current account. The handling fee these days is between 2 and 4 % and the balance is usually interest free for at least 18 months ( more on some cards.)
The handling fee is well below the rate of inflation, so as long as you are using the money to buy capital appreciating assets ( eg gold or shares) then you are investing using none of your own money.
Pay the minimum payment ( between .5 and 1% of the sum borrowed) on a direct debit.
When the interest free period runs out, you need a way of paying it back.
Or you can use another card to transfer the balance.

I got a credit card just before I reserved my first house to build up my credit score as I’d never had credit before. I got a points credit card so I get vouchers to spend on the high street once I have enough points to redeem. To build up my credit, I used to only use my card for petrol at the beginning of the month and then pay if off straight away. Definitely one of the best things I did as my credit score is amazing. Nowadays I use my credit card for that protection for when I’m booking things for my wedding, for holidays etc. Once again another informative and fun video Patricia :) xxxx

Great tips! For years I was overspending on credit cards and playing hot potato with 0% intro offers. Yikes. But I committed to paying it all of last year (got there on Dec 23 lol). Now I have one card for recurring bills that gives cash back that goes to my savings, and another for groceries/gas for travel points. Happy to say I pay my balances every month now!!

Hi Patricia, so happy with your financial tips. I've only had my credit card for two years now and in the beginning I only used it for when I was on holiday. Because in alot of countries you cannot use Cirrus anymore. So I got my Mastercard to make my vacationing easier.
Now I also use the card for purchases of which I want them to be insured in case something goes wrong with the seller. And I never buy things that I actually cannot afford. I have heard the horror stories of mountain high credit card debts and they scare me immensely. So I use my card wisely and only for money I already have to spend.

This pandemic has literally caused me to rack up so much debt. I was working but my hours were cut so much I was making 400 dollars a month when I should've been making 700 a week...i had to use all of my savings and my credit card just to feed myself and pay rent utilities and car note. It's been a nightmare. I just had to move into a new apartment so that put me in the red even further... let's hope this doesn't become more of a horror story 😬

Yes girl! I used a secured card for a year as an intermediary between my bank and vendors, so I always paid it off in full every month because I only used it on things I was already going to buy. I built up my previously nonexistent credit score to almost perfect by pretending the really small credit limit was how much I had left in my bank 👀

  • @jaelasam

Really great tips🙌🏾. I was that irresponsible user who never thought of my credit card as debt since I paid continuously and would sometimes just pay down the entire balance owed like twice a year just because I could. It wasnt until i had used it for an emergency that took my balance way down that i really felt the weight of living under that debt. At the beginning of 2020, I began working at correcting the habits that had lead me to where I was and thankfully I have been able to reverse the damage I did by making more responsible decisions and being proactive about financial planning. Just goes to show that it's never too late to change the course of your finances. You just need the will to do it💞

Withdrawing money on credit card is an interesting one particularly when abroad. I found out it was a lot cheaper to withdraw money on my credit card in a country like Comoros than when I did on my debit card. I travel a lot but haven't paid attention to this until I was in Comoros. It might be same for many other locations as well.
