The Hmong new year celebrations in Phonsavan Laos. It has everything going for it. Held in early December when the weather is perfect for travelling Laos, Easy to get to with lots of entertainment over 4 days. There is nothing else like it in Laos. Totally different from the Pi Mai celebrations. People from all over the world swarm to this area in Laos making it THE LARGEST HMONG EVENT ON THE PLANET!

I was there many years ago. Hotter than a frying pan but fun times. I plan to be there this year. I still enjoy listening to Laos music; it just moves me in my soul and makes me feel good.
That festival is definitely on my SE Asia list.

Lao food is testy, similar to Thai. But Cambodian food is fine dinning as not overwhelming with chilli.

My late husband and I were there in 1993 and 2004 to help the country financial institution. The bank had gone under belly due to corruption. The two stay total 10 months. More details in my memoir Love of Life - A Miraculous Story! Will be out soon.

Those little birds are deep fried and eaten crunchy with dip. Not bad. As you know many markets have burned. Most Lao think the fires were set?Was there many years ago. The old city was blown off the map , nothing was left but rubble. But sit there almost untouched was Buddha. Almost a religious awaking seeing it sitting there while all else was gone. The city you are staying in there is the new city and was just starting.when I was there. No power most of the time. Hard to get food. Lao airline landed at the military base. How things are changing. At least this change you are showing everyone is for the best. Thanks

dont forget todd your not using the knife. the ladies that swing them all day long might not want a heavy blade they might not last as long but you swing that heavy blade all day you might appreciate a lighter version.
