thanks for doing this comparison! would have liked the settings in the photo comparison though. did you set shutter speed, white balance, iso and hdr-setting manually to be the same on both phones every time you took a picture? i'm asking because the exposure and white balance seem so different in some of the pictures. for example at 10:25 the photo on the left is just overexposed but you argue that the right photo has a higher dynamic range when it really seems just a bit darker.
Zoom seems worse on the iv, weird. 70mm (on iii) starting point is also better than 85mm for portrait shots. But overall the iv wins camera-wise, especially better selfies and less CA.

@@lltechview Since there are no heat countermeasures done whatsoever, the only way to deal with it is CPU / GPU downclocking. For US$1600 I would prefer to see old fashioned copper tubes and vapor chambers rather than downclocking.

It's very disapointing that Sony decided to put pretty much the same main camera in much more expensive Xperia 1 IV. Results are basically identical. Xperia 1 IV's selfie camera still sucks compare to other, much cheaper phones. So Xperia 1 III to IV upgrade is pointless, a waste of money.
It is clear the main focus was not on the main camera but rather the other sensors and the whole experience with seamless zoom. If you never needed that then clearly not an improvement for you. Others might like it especially for videography and the 120fps in 4k on all lenses.
@@lltechview Absolute majority of people use main camera in 98% of cases. So Sony's main focus is wrong not only because of that. Just look at the range of new zoom camera - it is pathetic. And quality improvement of it is rather negligible too. Pixel 6 Pro zoom camera is much better for example, not even mentioned last year's Galaxy S21 Ultra. In terms of videography, bloody iPhone 13 is still undisputed king. So all things considered (add here overheating issues, price, timing and availability), Xperia 1 IV is a clear failure. There's no way that Xperia 1IV sales come close even to Xperia 1III.

I did not use manual mode for all shots. This particular shot was done in the basic mode.

Yeah. Some people complained about too long videos. So I try to make them faster and more compact.
Chromatic aberration seems much more prevalent on the iii. Major benefit for the iv for those of us usually in the sun.

Sadly not. Dimensions of the camera bump and position is slightly different

Yes. I had to go to the shadow a few times to let the Xperia 1 IV cool off.

That's why you'd use the Manual mode to get the pictures accurate.

For a phone that boasts about it zoom capabilities, it's pretty lackluster, anything above 85mm is unusable.
