      The design on the outside doesn't feel 80's, even if i look at it in 2017, the interiour however is 80's :)

      He also drove down to the south of France with a pair of fold-up bikes on the rear "shelf", dropped them off at his boat, then returned with an outboard motor in the frunk. Aside from some heater woes, it went well, reliable.

      I had the opportunity in 1992 to put about 5-600 miles on an '89 model and it was Wonderful!!!!! I always chuckled about the folks who griped about the steering wheel position and claimed that the Italian men must have arms like orangutans. There's nothing wrong with the steering wheel... you just drive it by holding the bottom half and ignore your high school drivers ed teacher who insisted that you had to be at "10 & 2." They didn't know what they were talking about.
      This car was soooo much fun to drive! It's definitely a "broad-assed Ferrari" but I managed to back it into our showroom every night thanks to those electric mirrors. The '86 car at the Paris Auto Show would have been terrible with the single mirror mounted up high on the left. I still have a photograph of it sitting in my garage one night because I was certain that would be the ONLY opportunity to get that picture!
      I took a friend for a ride in it and we weren't out of the parking lot before she started off with, "oh jeez, I'd go straight to jail if I had one of these!!!!" Then she loved it! It looked spectacular, it drove stupendously, and if you didn't have to pay for the maintenance it was an incredible amount of fun to drive. The "$20,000 clutch replacement" could put a bit of a ding in your enthusiasm though!!!

      You should check out Harry Metcalfe's channel here on UA-cam. It's called Harry's garage. He owns a Testarossa and a Countach. There's videos of him driving them across Europe and giving detailed reviews. Apparently they are both delightful to drive when they get up to speed. The Countach is more of a workout but still very rewarding to drive.

    Could you integrate something like a "Motor Minute"? In which no one speaks but the engine/car for about a minute (with corners, down- and upshifting, full rev cycle etc.). Not that I mind you or others talking, on the contrary, I really like your videos. But letting engines (and car) roar and be able to hear it as a viewer (most likely not ever being able to drive such specimens or other great cars on this channel) would be fantastic. Where applicable of course, I imagine that certain cars would not be that interesting audio wise.
    Thank you for all the great content Matt (and team), I've been watching it with much enjoyment over the years.

    Oh, wow! I got goosebumps allover! Great reactions and conversation about this legend! Amazing! I keep thinking that, when I feel in love with this car back in the 90', not a lot of people ware so enthusiastic abut it as i was. To put it into perspective and the feels that I had and honestly still have, every time I get to see drive and hear about this car is very hard. It's like a child getting the best present of his live and just spill the beans about everything with the most enthusiastic attitude and a perfectly satisfying stretched smile across his face! Thank you so much Matt! This was a real treat! PS. F**k! The owner was right! It is like seeing your ex on the street! :)))

      zaron z it makes me wonder what he did wrong to make that happen, it sounded like all the gears were shifting fine in every other point of the vid. Either way if it was me driving I'd be cringing and probably beet red and if I owned the car I'd probably feel the same

      @alphaetomega 7 років тому +14

      They do that sometimes, not his fault. The gearbox was probably not as warm as it would like. Gear oil quality and weight plays a huge role in how well these cars shift.

      Avidity 101
      I agree. But before he turns the key he he should know the things we do. Never driven a TR, but I do know about getting the trans warm before going hard. I thought he just drove it quite a distance in 3 and 4, definitely at a good clip too. Way enough to be to operating temp. IMO @8:40 it sounded like he downshifted at too high RPM. That's what made her angry. I cringed every time he shifted to fourth after the first crunch. And he definitely shouldnt have reached for fifth, because thats too high a gear for that stretch of road. Again, just my opinion.

    Matt, I worked in a small shop in Northern California in the early '90s that sold, among other nice cars, used Ferraris. We had a 1989 Testarossa for about 6 months before I sold it. Your comments regarding the width still make me chuckle... I backed that thing into our show room to put it away each night through the double glass doors. The 1989 was a late enough model to have electric mirrors on both sides. The 1984 T/R was released at the Paris Auto Show and had only a single mirror mounted high on the left A-pillar. To be kind, that is one broad-assed-Ferrari!!! As much as I loved driving it, with no mirror on the right side, there would have been some REALLY expensive body-work in the near future! Aside from all that... there is nothing like the sound of going through a long tunnel with windows down, taching that thing to the redline and backing off before exiting the tunnel. I hate how this word has been so over-used, but it was AWESOME!!!!! ;^)

    The most fun I have had driving was a 512TR which was a refined version of the orig TR. Better shifts, a load more power. The best thing was the non-power steering and the sound. The sound is music. The worse is the impossible driving position. I am too tall, and have too large feet for it, but what a great ride. Thanks for sharing. Double clutching was not a bad idea for the 512TR. Great video.

    I've driven the one that used to belong to Eric Clapton after the new owner brought it to Perth. Brought a tear to my eye for 2 reasons. 1) The realisation of a life long dream. 2) The realisation of a missed opportunity of not buying one when prices were right and I could have got one but was too scared. I am still eternally grateful to it's current owner for that brief moment in time. I will never forget it. I now keep telling myself that my tastes have changed and I'll be happy with a 360....which I will. But I'm kidding myself. The Testarossa was and always will be the dream for me.

Thank you for all the cool stuff you do for free. Also can't wait for the boats and watches.

    One of the true icons of the 80s, and an enduring symbol in its own right. Check out Harry Metcalfe's video of his drive across the Atlas mountains in northern Africa in his Testarossa, it almost looks more at home half-covered in sand than parked in front of the club. The car is an amazingly capable machine.

    It's a 180 degree V12, not a flat 12, as the opposing pairs of con rods share crank pins.
    Testarossa myth #1: The Width. A Lamborghini Countach is substantially wider, as are most modern pickup trucks.
    Testarossas tend to be a bit cheaper than most older Ferraris because they use cam belts which need frequent replacement (every 3 years or so) which is at least 30 hours of labor and requires the engine to come out. Maintenance costs on Testarossas are crazy which has tended to hurt resale values. They may be relatively cheap by Ferrari standards but you still have to be pretty wealthy to run one.

    • @ruk2023--
      @ruk2023-- 7 років тому +13

      The width is a myth wrapped in a truth. In my understanding the car isn't especially wide overall, it's the difference in width from front to back that can make it a bit of a handful in tight streets and other places.
      You also need to consider a bit of context. It's certainly not too wide for US roads but in Europe (where it was conceived and built) you could not drive anything bigger than a F150 comfortably so it is relatively speaking a much wider car here than in the US.

      @dwarf365 7 років тому +49

      180 degrees on a Protractor is a straight line. So tell me Mr smarty pants, why is it called a V? It's a Flat twelve, end of story.

    • @BelviGER
      @BelviGER 7 років тому +10

      dwarf365 and a diesel and a gas engine are also basically the same so why make a difference between them, as both explode a liquid to make power
      does that sound stupid to you? because that's how you sound talking about 180° vs boxer/flat

    • @transdayofrevenge
      @transdayofrevenge 7 років тому +22

      Simon Coles it is most certainly a flat 12, it's just not to be confused with a subaru style flat engine aka "boxer". Flat != boxer but flat == 180 degree "v".

    • @RoverWaters
      @RoverWaters 7 років тому +7

      what a stupid and wrong explanation!
      here's a better one:
      512BB (berlinetta boxer)
      "boxer" = "flat engine"

    • @MadMonroe90
      @MadMonroe90 7 років тому +6

      Rover Waters The pistons in a boxer engine are going in the opposite direction in the two cylinder banks (like in the picture in the link) while in a V12 (60, 90, 180 or whatever degree) are 2 up, 2 in the middle and 2 down. If you're still not convinced Google it or check Wikipedia, only in that case of course if you're not that kind of person who knows best no matter what :)
