    What is the difference between Rioja & Ribera del Duero.
    There are five red grape varieties permitted in Rioja; Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Mazuelo, Graciano & Maturana Tina. The same amount of red grapes is permitted in Ribera del Duero including: Tinto Fino, Garnacha Tinta, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Both regions Rioja & Ribera del Duero also producing stunning white wine, the most planted white grape variety in Rioja is Viura and the most planted white grape variety in Ribera del Duero is Albillo Mayor. Rioja is also know of making very fruity and easy drinking rosado wines (rose wines) from Tempranillo and Garnacha. In Ribera del Duero the rose wines are called Clarete and their are made by pressing and fermenting white & red grapes at the same time. One of the most important part of wine-making in both regions is the aging regulations. Wine labelled as Joven or Cosecha are usually unoaked. Crianza wines are aged for 2 years, Reserva for 3 years and Gran Reserva for 5 years before is released.
