Why would they? Canon make the cameras and lenses that's their business so why would you then allow other companies to make similar lenses for less money? That's literally giving part of their income to other companies.

@@richard99970here's why sir.. about an year ago i was in the market for a new camera. I had narrowed down to the sony a7iv and the canon r6ii.. in my research i found canon is the better performer. But sony allows for cheaper but high quality sigma lenses on their bodies.. guess who i went with.. the sony!! Also bought 2 sigma lenses for the price of 1 canon lens. And i am pretty happy with the performance. This decision from canon is not "saving a part of their business" but infact losing them business. I would have definitely bought the canon r6ii if it supported sigma lenses. And trust me there r probably thousands like me out there..

I have the EF 150-600 sport and a 120-300 2.8 sport. The 150-600 sport is horrible wide open at 600mm on my R7, but f8 is pretty good. The 120-300 is tack sharp wide open at all focal lengths, but it has horrid pulsing when I focus on things within a few feet close to me in AI Servo mode. When things are further away the pulsing doesn't go on as much, but it's still there. I REALLY hope Sigma comes out with a firmware to fix the pulsing...I've tried Duade Paton's settings and they seem to help my 150-600 more than my 120-300. The 120-300 is amazingly sharp when things are focused, but I think my keeper rate drops from 90%+ using my Canon EF glass down to about 60%. Single shot mode is fine though.

I've had the 150-600C for many years and briefly owned the 120-300. In my case the 600C zoom was sharper than my 120-300 copy (probably a bad copy, the contrast on it was absolutely garbage for some reason).
However I agree the pulsing made the 120-300 unusable, especially being 2.8 and having such a thin DOF.
Imo the 120-300 can only be considered for sports shooters who shoot from far away, and I will add, on FF cameras. The R7 is too demanding for that old lens.

Isn't there a crop in factor?

    • @jimcastile1905
      @jimcastile1905 Рік тому

The crop factor depends on sensor size.
On Canon APS-C sensors you "get extra reach" thanks to the crop factor. Focal lengths are ALWAYS stated as the full frame equivalent first. Even lenses designed specifically for crop sensors. For instance the Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 (one of my favorite lenses on my old Canon T6) would be multiplied by 1.6 to arrive at the equivalent of a 38.4mm focal length on a full frame camera.
Now let's say you're shooting landscapes with a crop sensor camera and you are starting to want to get wider FOV you would DIVIDE the focal length to find out the crop equivalent for a full frame.
Say you want to have an image that emulates a 21mm full-frame landscape. What focal length do you need for your APS-C sensor? Divide 21 by 1.6 to arrive at 13.125. You would need to find a lens described as 13 or 14mm.

While Sigma makes wonderfully optically good glass, many, including me, have reported issues with autofocus on Canon RF mount bodies. My 150-600 Contemporary would pulse back and forth while trying to focus and this resulted in a very low keeper rate for my bird photographs. In some situations, the autofocus works well, in others not so much. Eventually, for me, the "not so much" won out. As for the comments around Canon lifting the embargo on third party makers of RF glass, I actually don't agree. The technology is so sophisticated now that Canon should have the privilege of exploiting their huge investment for at least a reasonable time - isn't it a 20 year patent for pharmaceutical brands? And I love that my new Canon long lens operates so truly seamlessly with my RF body.

I've been wondering about this, because I love the Art series so much it's mostly what I shoot with on my APS-C Canon DSLR. If and when I buy a mirrorless camera body, I don't want to have to start over with lenses. But not a single vlogger has clarified whether you buy adapters for the *mount* or for the lens. If it's for the lens that would be a nightmare... two camera systems and four different brands of lenses arrgh.

This was shot on a Sony A7S III. Anyone else find that funny?

Correct! It’s the camera our freelance video guy uses, along with E-mount Sigma Art lenses 👍🏻

How do you change the aperture on Sigma lens using the lens only? Changing the aperture ring on lens is not doing anything. I have to use the Canon R5 screen or dial button.

Hmm good question Barry. Sorry you’re having that issue. First thing, check the contacts on the camera and lens are clean. If they are, I’d say updating the firmware on both the camera and lens is the next step (you need a usb dock to update the lens, or we can do it for you). If still no joy, we’d need to take a look at the lens ideally to check the contacts, but that would mean bringing it in or sending it in to us. Let us know how you get on

My Sigma 35mm ART F1.4 has dark rings in the image on my Canon R8 with the EF-RF adapter, it's not even like vignetting, like actual rings drawn on it. Am I screwed? It should work no?

Had the same issue when I switched from 6D to 5D mkIV back in the days. Just had to update lens firmware (using Sigma USB dock) and the circles were gone. Maybe it's the same thing with R8?

Is this a sign they won't be making a RF lineup? I have been waiting to buy a sigma telephoto rf for my R6 mark II
