    Migrated in Canada in 2014 from the Philippines. My first job as a service crew in Tim Horton's, I think that was $11 per hour. I worked there for 3 months, (it's tiring, boring and just not worth it) then I looked for an office job and worked for Telus as Technical Support Rep. Great benefits and pays $21 an hr, after a year I went to Epcor Energy worked in a call center there that pays $23 an hour. Most of my friends have 2 jobs. I decided not to and spent my weekends resting or exploring this beautiful country. Although it is everyone's dream (especially if you are from third world) I find living in Canada a bit depressing, I don't know if it's the weather or something. People are nice and friendly. With this income still hard to get your own property.

    Great video, my friend is a engineering tech and his wage is like $35-50/hr. I think everyone should do their own research and select a job that best suits their budget and credentials.

    • @diegoperez2090

      $35-50 an hour is a hell of a range. It's like saying "my friend gets between 70k and 100k a year". I find it extremely hard to believe that engineering technician can get paid that much. Why? Because I did a lot of research into that, as I am an engineer myself. To earn that much money you need to be a licensed engineer.

    • @Brandon-305

      Diego Perez my friend works in a nuclear power plant. Energy and petrochemical salaries are wayyy higher than you think and you must be certified to operate as a engineering tech or engineer in Canada.

    Why anyone would want to immigrate to Canada is something, as someone born here, is something I could never understand. I suppose if you're from the "economic" second or third world, or if your a Brit or European enthralled with the wilderness, it's a step up, but as a "born in Canada" Canadian, I had to work in the US to get anywhere financial in life. The salaries are too low here and there's very little opportunity - not helped by flooding the country with more immigrants than anywhere else. I trained as an engineer and to this day I don't understand why I could easily make 2 or 3 times the usual Canadian salary by working in the US. And that ratio holds for most second tier (non-medical) professions. Beyond low salaries, a socialistic "do good" government believes it has the right to tax this and tax that until they command more of your income than you do. Business wise, the country is basically a collection of self interested mini-'monopolies in everything, from phone services, to banking, to insurance, to housing, which means most things cost 100 to 500 percent more than in "real economies". Canadians like to boasts about their wealth of natural resources, but even with all these easily available natural resources, the place has a lower GNP/cap than well ran places like Switzerland, Luxemburg, Singapore, HK or the US. Canada likes to boast about taking in so many refugees, but frankly it's probably because they're captive immigrants who often don't have much of a choice. To top it off, environmentally, looking at the world as a whole, Canada is one of the last places that should be building up it's population - Canadians can't help but damage the environment more than anywhere else by just living a semi-first world life style in a place frozen half the year that makes it's way in the world by pumping oil, digging holes in the ground or cutting down trees. Consider this - it's usually the top 10% of a county's people that move it forward - but in Canada those people usually always emigrate from Canada. That why if you look at a list of the top 1000 companies in the world - I doubt you'll find one from Canada not involved in either oil or mining - frankly "dumb ass" non-creative companies, far below the level of a Google, Microsoft or Taiwan Semiconductors. And I've barely mentioned the climate....

      Last week in a town near me they branded a woman as a witch and shaved her head and paraded her naked through the village, all because a person in her house died. I am from India btw. Does that answer your question as to why people would prefer to move to Canada?

    • @jameswatsoniksis2399
      @jameswatsoniksis2399 6 років тому

      Doug I agree 100% with everything. The pepole who win out are actually small to medium businesses. Not your average salaried worked. For example, it's quite financially advantageous to open a business in canada, particularly LLCs where you have way lower tax rates than in the USA. And more deductions. You are able to write off huge sums, yes, you have high payroll tax but in the end you can get away with passing this on to the employee. (Ie you pay your employee $10,000 a month but they take in $6,000). It's widely known that Canada has abysmally low business innovation scores. But the Canadian government understands that and that's why they are trying to help businesses, especially those that create jobs.

    • @doughoward3244

      I hate to break it to you but you have the "Canadian mindset" that thinks 45 CDN an hour when that Ford F150 sells for 150% of the US price or a house in a decent city cost 2 -10 times the same as in the US while you pay more than 50% in taxation at the margin (sales, income, property, UI, CPP) is a good "deal". Ask yourself this one question - did you ever reach financial independence (living off your accumulated savings before 55) working in the trades in Canada. It's easy in the US - more or less impossible in Canada because the government takes care of all of us - using "our" money! That's why in Canada we let people bring in their 75 Y.O. third world grandmothers, but in Australia the wise government doesn't let anyone in - I think it's over 45, knowing they're eventually going to be too much of a drain on everyone else. But we Canadians have to take care of the whole world, weather it's war torn refugees or people who just say they are who know they don't stand a chance as a R claimant in the US. (OH well - we can head up to Canada and live off the government for a few years while they decide what to do with us!) Frankly I think our PM is more interested in securing a UN appointment than doing anything for his country. After all, its nice to help people, but when they come with 5,6,7,8 dependants, can't speak an official language, never completed grade 10 in a second rate school system, they might end up being an economic drain on everyone else (and piss off people like me!)
      I'm going to tell you something you won't believe. I started my career at a firm called MCM computers (google it), more or less the inventor of the PC. You know about Apple, but MCM - of course not. It was managed by Canadians!
      Frankly, drive through any midsize town in Canada and you'll see Canadian business acumen / competition at work - all the stations will somehow magically have the same gas price.
      The best thing about Canada use to be a low crime rate, but we're certainly losing that. The other good thing is the wilderness - but few, especially most immigrants, won't even understand what I'm talking about. Not all though. I once had to go to a medical clinic in Cochrane Alberta and was treated by a Brit - I'm sure he was there for the mountains. The Australians all over BC love it too.

      You can't get a job because Canada has more than enough of everyone for what the country really needs. After all, if you increase the work force by 2% a year for a country that makes it way in the world cutting down trees or pumping oil, together with low enterprise formation, what are you going to do with all the new comers. There's just so many affirmative action government jobs to go around for basically unneeded people until you end up something like the old Soviet Union. I always thought it was a good export substitution on the government's part - instead of exporting stuff, bring in people on the bases of hope of joining the first world, have them spend a bunch of money trying to establish themselves, then give up and go back to where they came from...
      Don't believe me - google the percentage of failed Canadian "immigrants".
      Here's something to consider. The rate of acceptance into medical school for applicants in Canada is approximately 1 out of 10. In the US, just under 1 out of 2. That in itself says something about the mindset of Canadians and the perceived lack of opportunity - "I'm pretty smart, there's nothing else to do, so I might as well I'll try to get my MD." In something like clinical psychology, a less demanding academic stream, it's even worst. My guest is on the order of 1 out of 20/30/40.
      Did you know that population wise, Los Angeles could be said to be Canada's 6th/7th largest city. It says a lot of opportunity in Canada.

    Hey Igor - my self having a Polish mother and a German father ( currently living in Germany) I understand that moving from Ukraine to Canada is a huge step up in pretty much every aspect. However, looking at Canada from another western country- and having done some research I got the impression that it is a very good country if you are bringing money with you, but not to make some ... . Even salaries in Toronto in my field (Banking) are not even half of what I’m making here in Germany , and that with lower cost of living comparing the prices to Canada.

      I doubt that anybody goes to Canada to make money. I loved Germany and used to visit it often, as I had relatives living there. For the past few days the price of BTC has been fluctuating which means the market is currently unstable and you can't tell if it's going to bearish or bullish . While others still continue to trade without the fear of making lose , others are been patient . it all depends on the pattern with which you trade and also the source of your strategy .

    Igor you dont know much,,,15 dollars an hours is not min wage,,,min wage in Calgary in 2018 is 11 dollars an hour. with 20 dollars an hour you need to have University Degree. I worked for TD INVESTMANET AS OFFICE ADMIN THEY payed me garbage with 20 years business experience in Calgary, they were payed me 17.90 an hour. And that job is with Calgary Diploma,,,lots of jobs between Canadians they pay good between them and they dont know anyghing or schooling,,,Canada is a garbage,,I worked in many fields,,and your informations is not accurate. Do more research.

      Blame yourself. Your writing skills are so poor you don't deserve anything more in any situation that requires a reasonable level of communication skill. Your managers realize this and have decided they "don't see anything they can work with to move you forward". Moving beyond your own perceived self entitlement, I suggest you at least get yourself up to the Grade 9 level of written English.
      Igor,
      You don't appreciate the situation many of us find ourselves in. The minimum wage in Alberta is 11 and hour, not 15 as in Ontario. To reach 20 an hour and beyond, requires technical, communication or problem solving skills, usually acquired through post secondary education. I've worked at TD INVESTMENTS AS (AN) OFFICE ADMIN and was paid.....
      I'd continue, but just like your managers - I doubt your worth the investment of my time, especially if your in your 40's and still can't write beyond the middle school level...

    • @zepher664
      @zepher664 6 років тому +5

      Need a university degree to obtain $20? Yeah I don't think so.
      Most first year apprentices in a trade start at around $20, and some of them, like insulation, don't require any education.
      Minimum wage is definitely going to be different depending on Provence, and also sometimes by job type.
      Here in Manitoba, minimum wage is currently $11.15 per hour, which is quite difficult to live on by yourself.
      Personally, I work as a Security Guard. Minimum wage for Security in Manitoba is currently $12.65, and most who work for private companies will make close to that rate. The major exception is guards who transport cash to ATMs, and are armed. They will make closer to $22 per hour.
      I work in a hospital and make around $20 per hour. I live on my own, I own a car I bought brand new a couple years ago and paid off last year. I keep most of my monthly expenses fairly low, have no debt, and am usually able to save about 30% of my monthly net income. I also have no university education whatsoever, dropped out of high school, and only have a GED.
      I'm aware that I am fairly lucky in this respect, and that it isn't easy to just find some job that pays decently, but they do exist.
      My job is mostly sedentary, but can get dangerous at times too.
      For those willing to work hard, they can make lots of money pretty quickly. Especially with overtime, premiums, vacation and holiday pay, etc.
      If you're a permanent resident, you can apply to be a provincial Correctional Officer here, and they start at $55,325 annually. They also get paid double for overtime, and get lots of paid vacation time.

      Depends on your education level. Not that I know alot about it, but it is also competitive in Canada. Alot of people in Ontario have higher education. From the people that I do know that have done entry level work- they did not get paid well by Canadian standards. But I m from a city that has an over abundance of higher education. I would guess that its a good paying job if you have the right amount of education.
