  • NOTE: Just to avoid confusion, I DID watch the entire show, but only chose to comment on the matches included in this video. I did watch the Shibata/Goto match, and it was very hard-hitting and intense, but honestly, it's hard for me to remember specifics about it because I was pretty tired by this point and stopped watching live after this match.
Brian Zane does his first-ever NJPW review! Watch as Brian gives a rundown of the matches from Wrestle Kingdom 11 that really stood out in his mind and made him feel like a new fan again, including the insane Okada/Kenny Omega match! Post your thoughts on WK11 in the comments section below!
NOTE: The following matches are not talked about, but they were still solid!
*NEVER OPEN 6-Man Tag Team Championship Match
    *ROH World Championship Match
    *NEVER OPEN Heavyweight Championship Match

Man Okada vs Omega is such an Incredible Main Event. My favorite spots are the Dragon Suplex off the top rope and Omega faked a Rainmaker with a High Knee that sounded brutal as hell! And also that crazy spinning Tombstone. One of if not the Greatest match I seen. I was a bit emotional after the match.

What caught my attention on the Tiger Mask W match was the girl accompanying Tiger Mask W. For the uninitiated, she's the voice actress of Tiger's manager/crush/childhood friend, Haruna Takaoka. Girl's name is Suzuko Mimori. Too bad the English commentary doesn't mention her name, though. She was also seen in the Japanese commentary seat during the Tiger match.
And she also happens to know some english too due to she wants to settle in Singapore (lol)
The Cody - Juice was a bit fun, especially with that cannonball spot, but well, it's not a really good match either... And also if only NJPW World can get the rights to the music, especially for Honma's, that would be really good.

    • @Megistrus

Oh yeah, man, WK11 is gonna be hard to top, just like the last 4 years! (I'm sure that makes me an elitist prick with a bias against mainstream wrestling or something, but whatever NJPW does far more good than bad these days). And I'm sure I'll be the absolute first person to tell you this (totally, definitely, positively), but Japanese wrestlers cosplaying as anime characters has been a thing for nearly 40 years. It's how Jushin Thunder Liger and the first Tiger Mask came to be.

The thing I took most from the show was it really brought home how over-sanitized WWE is in comparison(helped massively by the excellently laid back english commentary). The matches they put on were so much more visceral. Everything at Wrestle Kingdom felt like it had meaning and consequence, and told an easy to follow story. It felt like a massive event.

Two or three spots in Okada vs Omega made me think they had legitimately killed each other. Especially the two spots to the outside. That's the difference we're talking here. They hit harder in New Japan? Yeah, definitely not kidding there!

First Wrestle Kingdom I've watched and I loved it! Took me a week to finish it. Kashida & Takahashi was the match of the night for me! Closely followed by Shibata & Goto! Okada & Omega was great and definitely hard hitting but had too many false finishers for me. Plus i didn't think it told as great a story as the other two. I've watched very little of NJPW but this had me hooked from start to finish and I want more!

NJPW's big shows are the best wrestling on the plane right now, the consistent quality of in-match storytelling is unparalleled. Also, I appreciate you not going for the sort of click-baity move of calling the main event the greatest match of all time. I personally do think it was the best match of all time, but in just being appropriately complimentary of the match, and not even stepping into the debate, you kept this a really honest review that fans of the product can watch and appreciate, and also won't make WWE fans get defensive.

I've been a fan of NJPW for quite some time, and I can honestly say that's the best show I've ever seen from them, G1 shows included. The storyline with RPG Vice was that Rocky had been costing the team matches, so it made his final stand against the Bucks more meaningful.

The Omega and Okada match was a thing of beauty. Honestly, I could show that match to a non-wrestling fan and I know they would definitely find something in it that they would enjoy/be amazed by. At one point I thought Okada broke his neck after Kenny did that suplex(?) off one of the turnbuckles. And that table spot that Kenny took outside the ring was absolutely ridiculous. These two men left their heart and soul in the ring, and I sincerely anyone else will be able to top their performance at WK11.

Trent Barreta's bump to the outside of the ring made me cringe so hard. It made me think of the way Rick Rude's in ring career ended, or when Shawn Michael's got that spinal injury against 'Taker.
The ring being on that elevated stage was just bad news. Maybe if the stage was a few feet wider then the Wrestlers wound't have had to worry so much about it. It reminded me of the injury causing stage the WCW ring used to be on.

    just a beautiful match!
I was divided since I'm a fan of both wrestlers but it didn't disappoint!

Brian made a great point. The style difference between NJPW and WWE is completely different so trying to compare the two is basically irrelevant. If you watch New Years Dash the day after WK11 you'll see how many of the stars were truly banged up from the night before.

I do not regret paying 999 yen, nor do I regret waking up at 2AM to watch this show. The last 4 matches are just incredible. I was a bit bummed that Omega didn't win, but WOW.

I think Rocky Romero is underrated, he was basically selling for the young bucks all match, making them and their offense look very good! I saw Cody live recently here in Scotland and he certainly has a star presence and really good wrestling skills. haven't watched all of it yet but looking forward to doing that.

Having the promo show up for weeks on facebook, I decided to give this event a watch, and holy crap I'm glad I did, all the matches were entertaining, leading up to the AMAZING main event! Since I don't currently follow NJPW I was unfamiliar with the stories, but that did not stop the matches from being great. my only complaint is that the whole show was pretty long, clocking in at over 5 hours it was a bit to take in.

2017 will be a great year for wrestling. I have a feeling that the WWE will not just lay down and spread for NJPW. I also have a feeling that NJPW will bust their ass to get strong footing the US this year. Finally some really competition. Loving the idea that people will jump to different companies. So much talent in the world of wrestling love it.

I'm just amazed that they set the bar so high right off the bat each year. Like literally within a week of 2017, it's already the highest acclaimed PPV/big wrestling event overall. Mania has the bigger production value but they always feel like inconsequential matches to feed Raw instead of a climactic ending to the feuds.

I loved Wrestle Kingdom 11 and I think it's going to be show of the year because you can't top the quality of matches WK11 gave. The thing that the show did right that WWE struggles to do is keeping people into the show because there are always 2 to 3 matches that'll drift you away from the event.
Saying every match is great and awesome doesn't give them justice. You did leave out and that was the Never Weight 6 man tag 4 team gauntlet match which I enjoyed watching the match. You also didn't mention the Never Weight championship match with Shibata vs Goto which I think they put on a great match with their strong styles. I give Shibata a lot of respect for competing with all the tape he had on.
Other than the matches you missed to mention my favorite match is already MOTY Kenny Omega vs Okada but thank you for reviewing WK11.

I watch the whole show Brian, and I loved every minute of it. I loved Billy Gunn returning I loved all the title changes all the stiff shot I love that main event it was fantastic. Now I have to watch New Year Dash and see what that's like but I'm completely satisfied with the Dome show.

I fully agree on Kenny Omega making a better Terminator than Triple H. I loved that tribute to the original Terminator by New Japan, while WWE was probably too cheap to pay for the license (as they always are) and came up with that silly nordic Terminator-ish thing in Mania 31.

    • @rgordian624

I felt like it was a rip off of the WWE 2k16 commercial & Trips Mania entrance. It would be like if the WWE did the timesplitters Back to the future entrance from WK 8 at this years Mania.

I liked the main event as well as Naito vs. Tanahashi match that came on before that. I guess that NJPW did not care about the GOD swearing during their match with Yano and Ishii. I know if it was the WWE, Vince would have been extremely upset.

The only NJPW eents ive seen so far were WK10 and WK11 so im not familiar with it either. BUT i do have to say these 6hours were pure entertainment there was not a single second of boredom, and i will say that this event has beaten any wrestlemania from the last ten years by far. As Bryan said, the style of wrestliing and the way of selling and storytelling just made me a complete mark, and that is what i miss in WWE. I hope these guys will never go to WWE because that would ruin anything for them .. sadly Bryan did not review the Six Man tag stuff, i wanted his review on the Bunnygirl xD
