In this first lesson, we will learn about the notes or swar. There are twelve notes, of which seven are considered pure notes, and the other five are either flat or sharp with respect to the pure notes. After learning how to identify all twelve notes, we will focus on the pure notes and learn how to practice them, by repeating them in different patterns and at different speeds. This is called swar riyaz and helps with voice training, which can improve the accuracy of your pitch. The class ends with a quick preview of what is to come later in the series with a short introduction to Raag Bhoopali. About this video series:
In this series of videos, we will learn some of the basics of Hindustani classical music, including the notes (swar), how to practice the notes (swar riyaz), elements of rhythm (taal) and the concept of a raga or raag. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raga)

First of all, I from the core of my heart thank to Bidisha for her simple technique to make the followers learn very easily and sincerely. Her approach as a trainer seems very honest and pleasing to me. It is my suggestion to Bidisha. I think the learners who are at their beginning stage will be helped if you display all the notes prior to singing the two lines of Bandish "Raag Bhupali".

The way of teaching is amazing.I am a beginner. I love to hear music, raags, classical and all, and that's the reason I want to learn singing. Atleast I wanted to learn basics . I tried along with video. Some things like the last swar of ascent that is "Ni" My voice doesn't come out or I can say very little voice.also I was not able to sing like the combination of 3 swars and more and faster. But I will start practicing from today only. Thank you very much mam.

Very good for daily and regular practice. It helps me to sing all my favourite songs even better than I was able to years ago. I enjoy singing along all the notes in this video. Especially that part where the notes are sung faster, which helps to build speed. It's one of the best videos ever.
