  • Thank you all for your continuing support! To celebrate reaching 20K views, I'm sharing a longplay of one of my favorite action games: Short Circuit (www.mobygames.c...)
The player is human race's last hope for saving the world from destruction. A doomsday machine called ZX88B is about to send bombs into the planet from twenty orbiting satellites. The player is miniaturized into the size of an electron and needs to disarm the 12 computer chips inside the deadly machine. Hope you enjoy the longplay!
The game was written by David Schroeder, who also created Dino Eggs and Crisis Mountain (see longplay here: • Crisis Mountain Level ... ) , and published by Micro Fun in 1984 for the Apple ][.
PS: The # of hits in stored at address $80EE. The player will lose in a level if the hits reach 5 times. You can change $8E15 from EE EE 80 to EA EA EA to get unlimited hits. In addition, the # of lives is stored at address $8884. You can get unlimited lives by changing $9450 from AE 84 88 to EA A2 01 and $946E from DD 84 88 to EA A9 01.

Hi Vincent! This is David Schroeder. Thank you so much for posting this masterful longplay of my third game SHORT CIRCUIT. In some ways, it is my favorite of my Apple II games. I felt like I learned so much going from game to game, and I tried to apply all the lessons I had learned from CRISIS MOUNTAIN and DINO EGGS here.
I still love the clean crisp look of the graphics, which I designed to take advantage of the peculiarities of the Apple II video system.
And I can see that you've discovered the depths of strategy built into the game. Congratulations!

The graphics are incredibly good and stand up to this day. They certainly look finely-tuned to work with the A2 graphics. But let's also mention the gameplay is a lot of fun, with just the right level of adrenaline, and the sounds are also excellent - the battery transfers are truly unforgettable! The rest of the sounds are incredibly well tuned into the graphics, and you forget that the system is interrupted during each speaker blip.

I recently rediscovered this title and been playing a fair amount lately on an old IIc. I agree this game holds up really well and is very challenging. The music and effects are very chipper and the animation is very fluid despite the limitations of the technology of the day. Some older games get monotonous very quick, but yours keeps the energy and challenge up. Once you learn to solve a level, on subsequent plays you work to improve your score.

I was trying to remember the name of this game, I played a ton of it way back when, then found this video. Thanks for making the game!

You're not wrong ;) I only ever beat it by hoping that I spawned on the top half of the level, only going to the bottom battery when it was overloaded.

AMAZING! Thanks so much to post this unforgetable game that I've play not only in the 80's on my Apple II+, but I play even today in AppleWin 1.14.2. However, it's too hard! I've never beat it! Do anyone have any hint or cheat?
