      This is exactly how I'm feeling .... was doubting my abilities but really it's the lack of professors actually teaching. None teach, except Professor Leonard. The tutor I've been seeing through my school's tutoring program gave me his youtube after I asked for any helpful tips or advice..... and this IS GODSENT.

    I honestly don't even need to go to my college lectures with content like this, I'm basically paying my school to provide me with tests because this education is about 10x better than what I'm getting at school. The funny part? It's free. LOL

    • @jbenn88
      @jbenn88 8 років тому +30

      +Necrodox Is it funny though? I know you weren't being literal, but it's something I have really thought a lot about I guess because at one point I wanted to go back to school but couldn't.
      It just really goes to show how much we value a piece of paper over actual knowledge. If someone took the time to go through all these videos and learn the material, what does it matter that they didn't pay $30k+ to have someone say they learned it.
      That and you could truly understand it if you had the time to work through it and not just an arbitrarily set week per topic or two which along with other classes forces you to rush through it - but that's a whole other thing.

    Please note that this lecture is dealing with SEQUENCES not SERIES. The convergence test for Sequences is very basic and is correctly stated in the lesson. The Divergence test that you reference is absolutely correct, but only for Series. Please visit the remaining lessons in the "Chapter" to see what I mean. Cheers and thanks for watching!!

      Professor Leonard at 59:00 you mention the "old school" of indeterminate form of a limit instead of L'Hospital's rule. This involves dividing all the terms with the highest degree n in the denominator. If that same n has a coefficient, does that also get included when dividing the the terms?

I felt dumb for not understanding a lot of the materials during lectures in class but you are such a great professor that I have been able to learn so much more from your videos and ace my exams. Your videos have been extra extra helpful rn with this pandemic and remote learning. My professor is old and is still struggling to adjust to remote learning, so we have had to teach ourselves Calculus 2 and prepare for exams. I shared your videos with several of my classmates as well and you are literally our hero. Thank you Professor Leonard!

    Hey! I just wanted to say thank you so, SO much for this video! I'm so glad I stumbled upon this when trying to figure stuff out. You are a lifesaver! I'm learning Calc 2 right now and my prof zooms through the material and expects us to remember a lot of stuff from Calc 1, which is hard since Calc 1 was a struggle for me as well. But after your lecture this whole sequence thing makes SO much more sense now! Also, thanks for going really slowly and explaining each step out really thoroughly, and for being so energetic about it. For the first time in AGES, I didn't fall asleep through a math lecture! I really appreciate it. You're literally saving my grade right now! I usually don't comment or like videos (just because I'm too lazy, lol) but I just had to here. Thanks a billion again!

    This is helping so much!!!! My prof is incredibly smart, but tends to forget that some people in the class may be struggling. I love how you refresh students memories on past identities or rules and take time to explain your process to students that might not be getting it as quickly as others. In my class my teacher would give us a series then someone with more experience with them would automatically solve it, where i would still be thinking about it. Without being able to solve it myself, its harder to learn how to. Thank you for these!

    I'm taking Calculus 2 during Covid times, so I'm taking it online. I'm pretty sure the retirement age professor that I have has never taught an online class before. The notes are completely illegible, he has a heavy Ukranian accent, and he doesn't explain things, he only shows you them and asks "Do you see?" When you respond, "No, I do not see." He says says, "Look right here. See? Do you see? Ok. So, moving on." I don't even watching the lectures and I only go through the notes to try to pick out the main objectives to learn for the test. Brofessor Leonard, you're a math hero. Your lectures and the Openstax text books have taught me 80% of the calculus that I've learned. Thank you.

    I’m glad that I found these videos. Every time my professor finished an example, he always had an urge to run out an smoke a cigarette, which I can tell because he would always stare out into space for a whole minute.

    You seriously are a Godsend! I'm taking an online Cal 2 course, I have horrible anxiety and hate asking questions to the professor. I've been trying my best to learn all this on my own and it hasn't been easy. I get stuck a lot and it's frustrating. I was even on the verge of just giving up! But you make it look so easy!! Plus I listened to your introductory lesson about studying and I really need to take that advice. I took Cal 1 in a one month long course...during the final, I would get stuck half way on each problem and totally bombed it. Still passed though, but what you said made so much sense about not fully interalizing it all. Obviously I retained SOME info, just not all. (Yet I think it's totally understandable for a short class.) Hoping to take your advice and do better this time around in Cal 2! Thank you!!!

      Don't forget a million dollars! Honestly, I feel like he's the type of professor, that even if he had billions of dollars, he would still want to teach. He seems so passionate about teaching and mathematics! He always expresses how cool applications of maths are. Hands down the best professor in the entire planet....at least from what I can tell. He needs more recognition!

    Just because a monotonically increasing sequence has an upper bound M does not mean that its limit is M. It only means that it has *some* limit which cannot be greater than M; it may be less than M. Now, if M were the *least* upper bound, the limit would be exactly M. Similarly for monotonically decreasing and greatest lower bound.

    I think you one of the best lecturers ever, took me 1 month to try and study this but just in +- 17 hours I totally understand this Module from finding these videos here. There is difference between lecturers that know stuff and can teach the stuff that they know. You truly can make others understand.Please sir if possible do you have videos on complex analysis or Z-transforms and Laplace. Kind regards from South Africa.
