    1:15 The best camera to start with is the one you already have. YES! I wrote several books with that premise.

    I appreciate the idea of "use the camera you already have" - many of us have existing nice dSLR or mirrorless cameras, with the right mounts and technique are perfectly fine. I would not necessarily buy a new high end camera just for this purpose but it can be hard to justify buying a dedicated astro camera that costs as much as many mid-to-high end DSLRs. At least with a nicer, general purpose camera, you can use it for family portraits and travel too. So, yeah, an excellent starting point. Then, once you are overwhelmed with the astro-bug, consider getting a dedicated astro camera or modifying an existing dSLR.

    Great advice here. I started with my nikon DSLR and progressed to owning 5 dedicated astro cameras. The best one being the ZWO ASI 533MC as mentioned in the video. I find it works great with my Sky-watcher evostar ED80 refractor.

    This video arrives just in the nick of time! I've just resumed casual viewing of the night sky after 15 years, and armed( but not very dangerous ) with an old pair of 10x50 binos and a Fujifilm FinePix s4800 camera.
    I'm not that knowledgable about photography beyond pointing it at something and taking a shot, and have a lot to learn( to my credit I have figured out that I need to remove the lens-cap before shooting! ). But I take it that the s4800 is good enough learn and grow with, as it were?

    For OSC, don't overlook the 2400MC Pro. Great for medium to long focal lengths with its 5.94 um pixels. I use this camera on my Edge 9.25 up to f/10 and also my SVX130T. Full Frame and a much smaller file size than the 6200.

    Hi, love the video😻😻. I have 2 questions about the ZWO ASI6200MC Pro Cooled Color Camera. 1. Do I need to add additional filters for Astrophotography? 2. Can I use the camera with the Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer GTi?

    Have a T7i astromoded by Spencer cameras, best place to get it done. I thought dedicated cooled astro cameras were too expensive. I now have THE. ZWO ASI533-MC PRO! $900 for this is a game changer. If you have a scope do this. If you plan on ASiair in the future, you need all ZWO products anyway.

    In fact you can use 36mm unmounted filters with a filter wheel with the ASI2600mm pro. It works perfectly and it is « a bit » less expensive… 😅

    Interesting that you recommended the 2" filters/wheel for the 2600/268 cameras. Why would you go with the 2" instead of the more often recommended 36mm filters/wheel? What optics / imaging trains would necessitate those larger filters?

    • @TareqAstroPhoton
      @TareqAstroPhoton Рік тому +1

      Actually, i prefer to go with 2" filter for APS-C than 36mm even if that 36mm is sufficient, i just like to have slightly bigger size filter than the recommended ones, so for 4/3" they use 1.25" but i use 36mm, so if 36mm is enough for APS-C then i prefer to go with 2", same with full frame, people say 2" is fine but many go with 50mm size or even slightly larger.

    • @JonnyBravo0311
      @JonnyBravo0311 Рік тому

      @@TareqAstroPhoton I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just curious why the 2" was recommended. Unless you've got some pretty fast glass, the 36mm filters provide plenty of coverage for the IMX571 sensor. I've considered the larger filters as well for my 294, but ended up settling on 1.25" because they were considerably less expensive and provide enough coverage for my scopes.

    • @TareqAstroPhoton
      @TareqAstroPhoton Рік тому

      @@JonnyBravo0311 It depends on the budget and future plan, many keep saying that if someone might upgrade from APS-C to full frame in future then better to start with 2" filters, so people don't upgrade filter size too, in all cases i bought good affordable prices of 2" filters sizes, not a big deal, so it wasn't a regret after all, and it doesn't mean that all should do that too if they can't, but i already have an old 36mm filter models so i didn't want to buy newer models of same size, i got Ha 3nm and SII 3nm both at great prices back then, and i missed a nice price for Optolong L-Ultimate 2" to use for OSC, but i might be able to get that price again later somehow, didn't find it at 36mm size anywhere anyway, another reason to go with 2".

    • @JonnyBravo0311
      @JonnyBravo0311 Рік тому

      @@TareqAstroPhoton I see. You took the "buy once, cry once" approach :). Nothing wrong with that. I did that as well, except went for the premium brand at the smaller size. I've got Chroma filters in my wheel. Somebody is always buying what people are selling... just look at the classifieds over on CN. I don't anticipate having too much trouble offloading my existing filters and wheel when I decide to upgrade.
      But, if the sole reason for recommending a larger filter is "well, you might want to upgrade the camera in the future"... that's an expensive "what if" scenario. Using Chroma as the example (since I own them), my entire 31mm set of LRGBSHO filters (I have the 3nm SHO) cost me $2250 USD. Those same filters in 2" are $5825 USD. The 36mm filters are $3150. $2675 is a SIGNIFICANT cost difference.
      Of course, you don't need to buy Chroma filters, and other brands don't have the ridiculous cost difference between their 36mm and 2" filters.
      The only time I'd recommend 2" filters to someone looking to purchase one of the IMX571 cameras is if that person also had (or was buying) a very fast scope like a RASA or Tak Epsilon or similar where the larger filters would actually be needed. But, that's just me and my opinion. Yours is perfectly good, too :)

      @@JonnyBravo0311 Don't worry, our points aren't fixed facts and it won't change others plans or mindset, i also have Astrodon Ha 5nm 1.25" and Chroma OIII/SII 3nm 1.25" filters to be used with ASI1600MM, while for my QHY163M i use Optolong 7nm/6.5nm SHO 36mm, and i have cheap LRGB in both sizes anyway, still not sure to go and buy Astrodon/Chroma LRGB 1.25" set filters now as i already have OSC APS-C, and i might add third one who knows could be OSC again or mono again, but i also think about 294 OSC too, but until that time i keep choosing filters and sizes wisely, the prices were nice for me to get those 2" filters anyway, only two so far so not a big deal yet, in fact if i can sell my Optolong 36mm SHO filters then it will be like i didn't spend much for 2" filters anyway, and that time they didn't have 36mm options as offers for me to buy, so i never hesitate to buy 2", i was lucky, i won't buy Chroma or Astrodon at 36mm or 2" no doubt, but other brands are just doing fine mainly with Ha and SII at least, i live OIII filter choice unknown, i will go with a dual band filter for OIII and i can rely on RGB stars only, and with like 5 cooled cameras and adding one more later it will be so easy to spread tasks and not worry about which filter and what size and what scope.

    Don't forget the other brands that may be significantly cheaper and more readily available than ZWO or QHY, especially for cameras with the IMX571 sensor. I can mention Touptek, Explore Scientific, Altair and Player one for instance. They are almost identical to the ZWO 2600MC/MM. After 4 years buying only ZWO cameras, I just bought an Altair 26M. While not the cheapest of the bunch, it was still 500 € less than the 2600 MM, a noticeable price difference. The Touptek versions are even cheaper on Ali Express, if you can leave with the fact that you will have next to 0 support if your camera fails.
