The Real Friends of WeHo’s Joey Zauzig steps Behind The Rope. Now that the freshman season of the hit MTV show has come and gone, Joey reflects upon the season breaking down highs and lows both on and off screen. Joey chats cast mates - welcome back to our screens Brad Goreski, Curtis’ coming out, the many misperceptions surrounding Todrick Hall and how there is no love lost with Jaymes and Dorion. Of course, Joey addresses all the controversy surrounding the show since its release - a shortened Drag Race, claims against appropriate and diverse community representation, whether the cast are “real” friends, social media threats, ratings and last but certainly not least, all those WeHo bars that turn off the show and cheer once Drag Race has ended. Joey discusses why he thinks the show is important for the future of LGBTQIA programming, what a potential Season Two would look like, who would most likely not return and why the Drag Race loyalists should have accepted this show with open arms. Finally, after having made an appearance this season, Joey chats BFF Meredith Marks, fav Real Housewives and franchises and that one time he got his hair done at Sally Hershberger next to Lisa Rinna!

I really like this show. As a gay man myself I don’t understand how gay guys will watch housewives every week but not support our own gay housewives. The gays never support gay shows. Y’all didn’t support The A List New York or The A List Dallas. The only gay show gays support is RuPaul Drag Race. I like RuPaul Drag Race but it is not all that. Not all gay man want to be drag queens.

I agree with you 💯 and split my time between NYC and LA and the LA bars would turn it off after Drag Race and people would cheer. Like WTF. I agree with every single thing you said

@@behindthevelvetrope Thank you. We as gay man can’t say we want to be seen and when we get our own chance to be seen we don’t support it.

Sometimes rich people are so frugal they do wear the same clothes over and over... and that's why they have money. 🤑 Clothes don't make you more money, real estate and investments do. Just buy something expensive and re-wear it until it's met it's prime. I have had the same Calvin Klein wallet for over 20 years and it's in great condition. I buy expensive coats too, they look good and last years. Re-wearing is hot. I haven't seen this show but now I'm curious about it. Thanks for the interview David. BTW I always liked the cultural aspect of I Am Cait, the different trans people were fascinating and I loved how they didn't see eye to eye, especially the older and younger.

I LOVED I Am Cait but I love Cait and that alone is a controversial statement to many. I had Cait's friend who lives with her - her BFF Sophia Hutchins on the pod - videos on the back feed. Loved Sophia too. Living part time now in LA and going out mostly in Bev Hils and WeHo - I thought this show was a decent cross rep for season one - it needed some cast tweaks sure but not deserving of all the hate lol

@@behindthevelvetrope I like Cait too... very genuine person. Over the years I've had lots of conservative friends who were gay. Who did the show get hate from?

@@benbelzer8303 all the gays and members of the LGBTQIA community who dont like or accept Cait just because she is a republican which is right as an American citizen - the same group who always say how problematic Cait is. For People NOT in the community who have NO idea in 2023 what trans is or means - which is insane sure - but there are millions of people Still who dont "get it" and good or bad Cait is the most famous well known trans person in the world to the masses so I dont understand why the community has such an issue with her. She is conservative. So what?

@@behindthevelvetrope I agree. Cait is really strong for speaking up. I'm so over politics... have been for several years. I just read about the hate that the WEHO show got and I'm so curious to see it.

Joey was really awful on this series, and it's evident that he comes from the social media era. Not that Social Media creators are off point, however people like Joey eliminate the opportunity to look within and see what aspect they've played apart in any disagreement or difference of opinions. I started in Radio in 2001 (when social media wasn't available) and I love how we had the opportunity to cut our teeth, refine our craft, develop personal skills, etc, BECAUSE I would never wanna be like this guy, who is of the mindset of constant combativeness, you can see how lonely he is inside. And lastly, I enjoyed the Real Friends series w/ the exception of Joey on all episodes, he just doesn't have it, what else can ya say (shrugs shoulders)
