Everyone knows about the “I hate my wife” aspect of boomer comedy, but an element Jacob captures in his “Al dente rings” joke is the unnecessarily long set up. Having the whole bit about the restaurant and bringing out the chef just for the joke to be a stupid pun. So many of my older family members say jokes like this as if the long wind up makes the punchline better, when it always makes it worse.
