Great irrigation demonstration, I think the spray type like that is the best. The problem with drippers is that it might not drip where you want, and you have to keep it pretty well aligned to prevent your plants dying, the spray type gives maximum flexibility for a garden bed I think.
I loved this segment on how to use different types of gardening hoses and other items for your watering plants! I am so happy you didn’t rush through this but showed each step of way to take care of the hoses and the names of the parts which I find confusing but you made it clear by demonstrating how you are doing this with obvious success! Thank you for sharing your tips on how to set-up your watering systems for best use and how Thurl you cover the subject! I have always found this to be a mystery. I still don’t know which way to turn off and on a system like this to get more water or less water. I have never set up a system but I’ve tried to add an extra part for a different pot! I did the test this morning, and it is working beautifully. I have two 4×8 beds both were excellently covered by the sprayers. One more thing, I did try to hand pollinate my tomatoes after seeing your video, the results are unbelievable.... tons of tomatoes. Anyway thanks man for your informative videos...
Excellent video. I've done a lot of this to fill in "shadows" in an irrigation system's spray patterns. Quick Hint: You can make a better staple with old wire coat hangers and wire cutters.

Tom Ryan - Good question. When growing large plants like tomatoes I limit to planting 4 in one bed so that each emitter sprays on one plant. For the emitters that spray across 2 beds (180 degrees) I sometimes trim the lower foliage to let access for air and water. Hope that helps!

Great video! Can I use the riser kit on just one spray head and leave the remaining for watering the lawn? Or should I cap off the remaining spray heads? I want to keep both lawn and veg garden :)

Manohar Viswanathan - Your reply settings are turned off so I hope you find this message via quoting you. Yes you need to cap off all the other heads. Use one head which will give you two lines of main line. The reason is that the drip irrigation uses low pressure (25 to 30 psi) and the sprinklers use high pressure (60 psi) so they are not designed to work in tandem. Hope that helps!
One more thing, if you want to keep both, you will have to connect it to another valve at the point your sprinkler line begins, basically adding another line. Another option is to connect the vegetable drip line to a faucet outlet with a timer and pressure reducer.
Would this work if I don't cap off the rest of my sprinkler heads? I want to convert one sprinkler head for my raised bed, but allow the rest to continue watering my lawn. Will it work?

Hello just wondering if I can leave the main tubing at the bottom of the raised beds (on the outside) and then connect the micro sprinklers with the thinner tubes going all the way to the top? ... Just coz then I don't have to see the black main tube on the top perimeter of the raised beds. Do you think that would work equally well? On another note, i have 2 beds on the other side of the walkway so would it be ok to run the main tube across the pathway to those? I was apprehensive about the how durable it would be since we have to take the mower on it to get to our garden... Sorry for the long questions! And thanks in advance, your advice really helps! :). What do you when the plants grow above the height of the emitters? Do the nearby plant receive more water than those behind? Does the root zone receive less water the leaves? If so, how do you adjust the emitters to concentrate the water at root zone.

Do you ever trip on the main line that's laying on the grass? During the heat of the summer is the water in the line scorching hot? If so, are the plants harmed?
I've always been told never to water the leaves of tomato plants to avoid increasing chances for disease. did you have any issues by doing this method and are you continuing to use this method or have you tweaked the system to something better? Thanks.

I have a drip pipe already going through the bed area connected to main sprinkler system . Would it have enough pressure to install the micro sprinklers.

How many micro sprinklers are you running off one converter? From what I can tell, Rainbird states 6. Looks like you have 20? Can I convert other sprinkler heads n the same zone?
Question: When you turn on the sprinkler system to irrigate the lawn, what happens to this one sprinkler head that is used for drip irrigation? how do you turn the water on for this one sprinkler head without turning on other sprinkler heads?
You would have to run it to it’s own cycle of that’s what you wanted

I have been following your channel regularly and have some veggies growing in pots already. I have planted some tomatoes,peppers,cilantro,spinach and eggplants this season, have harvested some too. I plan to go on a vacation for a month to my home country in the winter and wondering how i can water my plants then. I have all my plants in pots(about 8-10) of varying sizes and they are placed in my apartment balcony. Do you suggest any particular drip irrigation system to help me solve the problem as there is no water outlet in the balcony. Thanks!

Hi! I really like your system with the micro sprayers (as opposed to the drip) because it allows for more flexibility in planting your beds differently every time! It's tough to run lines to the exact locations of plants to get watered just by where their roots are!!! Not sure how to start converting our current sprinkler system coz it has the whole yard hooked up... For grassy areas too. But will try capping off those in the veggie garden only- hope rest of the system doesn't get affected in any way...? Also would you recommend installing a back up valve for not letting water back up in case mud clogs the pipes? What about the end of the pipe... Do you have a run off installed there? M S Thank you, I am glad you like the system and its working for you. I thought about a lot of systems and this is the only one that works perfectly for raised beds and the parts are easily available. I do not have a backup valve since my existing sprinklers did not have one. I run my 1/2'' pipe in a loop so no end point, it goes back to the T on the sprinkler adapter head. Hope that helps!
M S Oh yes you will have to cap off all the other heads. If that is not an option, I recommend running a new main line - take it from a faucet if there's one nearby, you can even split a faucet outlet into 2, install a timer, pressure reducer and then the 1/2 inch line. I have such a setup for my containers.

Thats not recommended as the sprinklers use higher pressure and the drip line wont have enough (low) pressure to water the other zone. You can try it though and if it doesnt work cap off the rest.
Yes there is a split t that goes from the actual sprinkler line and reduces to the micro line and can screw the old sprinkler on top

No, its fixed at 90, 180 or 360 degrees but you can adjust the pressure flow
Hi .. can i use the same micro irrigation technique using the Orbit 62061N-91213 Single-Dial Water Timer from my regular pipe ? I worried to touch my sprinklers.

john Kosheluk All other sprinklers have to be capped off to maintain pressure. I am not sure if I understood your question right.

Gaurav Mittal It depends on the weather. For hot summers its set to twice a day, 3 mins. In winters I set it to once a day for 3 mins. I noticed that 3 mins is usually the time it takes for the container to be fully watered. But it does depend on your container sizes.

M S Yes that would work equally well, I do not see any issues with that setup. The 1/2'' line is quite durable, I regularly run my trash cans over it on the walkway in my container area. Just be a little careful :) Hope that helps!

M S In hot summers, I run mine for 10 minutes, every 2 days on one program (A) early morning (8 AM) and second program (B) at 5 PM for 5 minutes every 3 days. After Labor day in September you can lower it to 2 days a week, 10 minutes, one station. The 10 mins or higher is important to get deep watering. I use Program B only when seedlings are young and you do not need it once plants are established.
