No. The battery they moved to the back is just the starter battery. The hybrid battery is located below the rear seats as with any other hybrid made by Toyota. Also you still got some space below the false floor in the trunk in the 2.0 version.

One question, why do you compare a hatchback Toyota with an Octavia. The Octavia isn't a hatchback it's a larger 5-door. If you like to compare take a rapid or new Scala those are more in this range.
Somehow most of videos promoting cars talks about not very important things - like cargo space, plastic components, seat upholstery, color of interior and so on and never mentioned specifics about hybrid car itself. Size of motor and battery does important but most important what kind of hybrid it is in a first place. Is it parallel hybrid? is it Series Hybrid? is it plug in hybrid? All hybrids very different from each other how they propel the wheels. My opinion - only Series Hybrid is worth to have because it has independent motors to each wheels. No gearbox, no couplings no cheap cvt transmission. It can directly control speed of each wheel individually - which is perfect for traction control.
not buying a car because it "looks better" - if i would i'd buy an alfa romeo. i'm buying a car for efficiency and reliability. that's what you get here. and please don't compare it to other european cars, those are just pretty handbags with a lame product lifecycle.
I can’t agree about the comparison with the ford focus as a ”drivers car ” I owned a focus and went straight to a 2.0 L Corolla. The corolla is way, way better in almost every thing. The only downside to the ”rolla” is the boot space and backseat space.
@@rightlanehog3151 I wish Toyota (all car manufacturers honestly) would just standardise their car names and model availability globally. I just got a new 2L 6sp Corolla Hatch in Australia and our 2018 model is called 2019 in USA also we get crappier option grades so reviews from international markets are misleading.
I have this car now nearly 3 months, what you point out was very aqurate, handling might focuse or Golf be a little bit better but nowhere near Crolla running cost and relibility and price and technology comes Stansted on this, btw when it's on sport mode 1.8 litre petrol and electric engine go fast for sometimes use ,
The Prius Prime starts at $27k. While the battery falls short of the Chevy Volt RIP and Honda Clarity, I do respect that it's the least expensive plug in, and has better fuel economy running on gasoline than other plug ins. And some people only need 20-25 miles of electric range.
"That's great if you can plug in at home" Plugging in at home takes your own parking space and your own electric meter. In the USA, single family homes, duplexes, and townhouses (maybe called row houses in other parts of the world) covers 80-85% of households. I haven't checked data for other countries. The battery of PHEVs are small so even level one charging will top off the battery overnight. Based on the housing demographics of the USA, the "not everyone can plug in at home" is overblown as most people can. It may be true however that younger people who are more interested in EVs are more likely to live in apartments.
Not only the looks are subjective.. are you really saying that a dial to adjust angle of the seat is better than what Toyota has..? I always hated the dial .. and when buying a car it would be a really big con for me that would stop me from buying a car
If you want great fuel economy without paying extortion amount of money then buy Hyundai ionic. I’ve been using ionic for 4 months now and I’m getting 68 to 70 Mpg easily.
Are a Golf and Octavia not build on the same platform. Passat and Superbe also. So you can not compare a Passat with an Octavia. But of course you can not get an Octavia as a hatchback.
No one ever.compares servicing costs. When your buying a car thus is important unless you have bucket loads of foldin stuff. Toyotas are cheaper to service compared to others in the same class
Not sure why this guy is complaining. In Canada we can only get the hybrid in the base le trim or add a "leather" option. Your corolla looks like a lexus by comparison
Great review! I was looking into this one as an alternative to the Camry Hybrid which has the highest safety rating around if you get the optional headlight package. Unfortunately this one doesn't have a perfect safety rating. That's all I'm willing to go with after seeing a loved one die in a car accident. I've had Corollas though in the past and my family had Corollas and they are excellent cars. If they could just get the safety ratings to all perfect five stars instead of one being a four I would buy it. If anyone cares the Prius also doesn't have a perfect safety rating either. Only the Camry, with the hybrid with the headlight package being the safest of them all.
A J maybe by the time I need to buy one Subaru will have a hybrid, but I looked at their current lineup and there was nothing that fit my needs. They're definitely on my list of brands to consider though!
You should not forget that the most important safety feature is right between the driver's seat and the steering wheel. Crash test ratings are only comparisons, not a guarantee of anything. Choose what's best for you.
Why? They're dodgy at best, if you pass a nearby lamp post or sign it starts beeping like hell, don't even want to bring up a narrow back road with bushes. Collision detection and automatic breaking are the only real options i'd go for.
Blind spot warning has saved me several times over the past five years. Mine have never flashed “going by a post”. I will only purchase a car or SUV that has blind spot warning. I’m not forcing anyone to buy the feature for their car. I’m just glad it’s a feature that’s available. Don’t get it on YOUR car if you think it’s not necessary for you.
@@lylewilliams1371 I would suggest you have your rear view mirrors showing the side of your car. This is a mistake. If you set your mirrors further out you will find you do not have a blind spot. But hey whatever works for you.
Toyota hybrid synergy drive system does not have a CVT transmission. It incorporates 2 motor generators called MG1 and MG2. MG1 is driven by the engine and generates the electricity. MG2 drives the wheels. When decelerating, the wheels turn MG2 and generates electricity to charge the battery. Sorry, no room in there for another transmission.
It's called an eCVT system. MG1 spends a fair bit of time as an alternator, and via MG1 the effective gear ratio (through a planetary gear set) between the engine and the drive shaft is controlled. It's possible for the engine to run at a constant speed as the car accelerates, with the power being 'split' via MG1 - some to the wheels, some elsewhere. MG2 is the 'traction motor'/regen alternator (for braking) with a fixed gear ratio with the drive shaft. The engine and MG2 feed power in tandem when required. Incidentally, there is no such thing as 'reverse gear', as for reverse MG2 rotates the opposite way, by swapping the power phase electrically. There is no conventional dc starter motor, nor any belt driven alternator for low power electric - all done via MG1 in this system. Both of the MG's are variable frequency a.c. three phase devices - there are three d.c to a.c. inverters, along with a pair of d.c. converters.

No. The battery they moved to the back is just the starter battery. The hybrid battery is located below the rear seats as with any other hybrid made by Toyota. Also you still got some space below the false floor in the trunk in the 2.0 version.
Thanks for the review from France, we don't have the blindspot detectors too, even in the most expensive version.. but belgium have it..
I live in America🙃 how might I go about getting a car from another country 🤔 like this corrola hybrid hatchback
You need to drive the 2ltr hybrid corrolla in sport mode.....0-60 in 6.6!
no comparison to a Focus or golf you can drive your Corrola for 20 years
Almost nobody who is buying/leasing a new car keeps it for that long.
I hate that dial for the back rest, it takes ages of turning to get it right....much prefer the lever adjustment.
If the GR Corolla looks like this with some subtle aero elements it might be the best looking hothatch on the market.
My partner has the GR Sport Corolla and it is amazing.
This Corolla design looks best in class compare to the rivals. The hybrid powertrain is best in class also. Best quality in the longrun, can we trust british built......? Hope so.....
Beautiful car you have 10/10
V v v good video where is the best place to lease it or buy it
Ppl to be honest a good working Toyota corrola better than any golf, focus any day toyota, those cars give years of driving with just basic maintenance I know PEople that bought use Toyota corrola from Japanese used cars markets and cars going 10 15 20yrs and still going strong and these are cars that drive every day
Why is there now only one option for the interior on this car and not the really nice looking grey and alcantera that it looks like you could get a couple of years ago? 🤔
I have an auris its a good solid car but not the best drive , I just had a test drive in a corola 2 litre and 1.8 and what a difference both models are a much better drive , the 2 litre goes like s🧚♀️🧚♂️🧚♂️
The dial to adjust the seat is the worst way to adjust your seat. I have never seen anyone complain about the lever since its typically the superior and easier version to adjust the seat.
Can't wait to get this car second hand in 10 years
They’re about 16Gs approved used now
How many km can cover with 43l ?
What I better to buy the 1.8l or the 20l hybrid?
Absolutely reliable but tight space on the back seats and small boot that's an only negative part hopefully new cross fixed this issue
you can always buy the estate version of the Corolla, more space in general.
@@Dorfus2323 I live in Australia there is not much estate version just hatch and sedan in Toyota Australia
I'm glad they've got rid of the very 70s looking T bar shifter they've put in the Yaris.
Good looking car, have to say.
I much prefer the Japanese-style lever for the backrest. Those turnwheels are always slow and fiddly.
I find that the seat is still low in the highest setting, I cannot see the front of the bonnet which makes it harder to manoeuvre, and I am not a small person
Im pretty sure the 2020 Corolla have apple and android carplay
I have one but after 234 miles it refuses to go any more. It doesn’t appear to self charge, am I doing something wrong?
Wtf have you done to it?!?
Weird the US version corolla doesn’t have a nav screen that slow and comes with apple CarPlay standard
Americans will never buy a car without apple CarPlay/Android auto, we are suckers in Europe to keep accepting it.
Wow 64 mpg, that’s very economical, it’s as good as my 1984 1.2 litre Honda City.
60 miles per gallon.
1 mile = 1.609Km
60*1.606 = 96.56Km per gallon
1 gallon = 3.785L
96.56 km per 3.785L
96.56/3.785 = 25.51Km/L
25.51 Km per Litre of fuel.
Americans... 🙄
Does it have power mode like the Auris did ?
You say no Apple CarPlay buts it’s advertised on Toyota website?
One question, why do you compare a hatchback Toyota with an Octavia. The Octavia isn't a hatchback it's a larger 5-door. If you like to compare take a rapid or new Scala those are more in this range.
I believe "what car' are sponsored by vw. Always vw brands mentioned in nearly every review they do.
This will be a perfect upgrade for my 2012 auris hybrid. Looks wikid too
OMG, The dial is the old school, not the lever, the lever wich is used to adjust the seats is a much more convenient and modern solution.
Hi, does anyone know if you can fit a set of golf clubs in the boot of the Corolla 2021, 2.0 engine model? Just getting my priorities right lol.
not buying a car because it "looks better" - if i would i'd buy an alfa romeo. i'm buying a car for efficiency and reliability. that's what you get here. and please don't compare it to other european cars, those are just pretty handbags with a lame product lifecycle.
Why do you keep talking about the Skoda Octavia? And saying it’s in the same class?
Because...it is ? :)) both are compact cars, skoda superb is the one that is not in the same class with the corolla
I can’t agree about the comparison with the ford focus as a ”drivers car ” I owned a focus and went straight to a 2.0 L Corolla. The corolla is way, way better in almost every thing. The only downside to the ”rolla” is the boot space and backseat space.
what do you mean by saying that Auris is not inspiring? Inspiring to do what?
I need a new car. Should I buy this Corolla or the Honda HR-V SUV ?
Please help me.
I am on my second Corolla, love it and the perfect car for me. Your seat is on the wrong side as I live in Canada!!
Those lucky Brits get the much more practical wagon.
In Australia we have to wait 8 months for the new corolla
I have this car now nearly 3 months, what you point out was very aqurate, handling might focuse or Golf be a little bit better but nowhere near Crolla running cost and relibility and price and technology comes Stansted on this, btw when it's on sport mode 1.8 litre petrol and electric engine go fast for sometimes use ,
what is actual mpg fuel economy thank u?
@simanpreetsingh9457 11.5 miles per 1 liter, and the trip computer is 100% accurate
It's got almost everything I want, except a plug. I'm happy to take 5 seconds to plug it in when I get home in exchange for fewer trips to get fuel.
That would require a bigger battery and probably add $10 to 15K to the price.
The Prius Prime starts at $27k. While the battery falls short of the Chevy Volt RIP and Honda Clarity, I do respect that it's the least expensive plug in, and has better fuel economy running on gasoline than other plug ins. And some people only need 20-25 miles of electric range.
@@piperar2014 I am confident a plug-in version will arrive some day.
That's great if you can plug in at home 🤔
"That's great if you can plug in at home"
Plugging in at home takes your own parking space and your own electric meter.
I am exited, ordered 22 Toyota Corolla 1.8 petrol car and waiting .
Not only the looks are subjective.. are you really saying that a dial to adjust angle of the seat is better than what Toyota has..? I always hated the dial .. and when buying a car it would be a really big con for me that would stop me from buying a car
What color is this?
Love how it looks. Much better that the previous hybrids. I may get one in 2021.
If you want great fuel economy without paying extortion amount of money then buy Hyundai ionic.
I’ve been using ionic for 4 months now and I’m getting 68 to 70 Mpg easily.
Would you rather have a self charging petrol car or a self charging electric car?
8:16 !!! If you know a bit about EV and hybrids you will have a strong opinion what is being said here.... :-(
Have a good eveningNice! Thank you!
How about a review with Corolla sedan or estate?
so corolla or c-hr prefer guys?
Whats the price?
Have you done a review on the Sportbrake/estate version?
How can you compare a skoda octavia to cars of this class?
Are a Golf and Octavia not build on the same platform. Passat and Superbe also. So you can not compare a Passat with an Octavia. But of course you can not get an Octavia as a hatchback.
No one ever.compares servicing costs.
When your buying a car thus is important unless you have bucket loads of foldin stuff.
Toyotas are cheaper to service compared to others in the same class
Not sure why this guy is complaining. In Canada we can only get the hybrid in the base le trim or add a "leather" option. Your corolla looks like a lexus by comparison
Not clear if this is available in the U.S.
Is this built in Japan ?
No, built in the UK unfortunately.
really interested to know if the 1.8 struggles to get up to motorway speed or if the electric motor tork helps it to get up to speed?
Its more than adequate...
Not being able to even chose Apple CarPlay now a days is a no no.
but what a beautiful car.
I’m waiting on my Corolla and not having Apple CarPlay sucks, but I read that it’s coming to Europe in Q3 this year
Great review!
If you really want safety you should go with a Subaru.
Wish Toyota had put blind spot monitors on the car.
Why? They're dodgy at best, if you pass a nearby lamp post or sign it starts beeping like hell, don't even want to bring up a narrow back road with bushes. Collision detection and automatic breaking are the only real options i'd go for.
I’ve done well without last 13 years.
If you need them, you haven't adjusted your mirrors correctly.
Sorry, no room in there for another transmission.
it is a eCVT, it definetly not the same because it uses the MG1 and MG2, but the principle is the same continuous variable transmission CVT.
Both of the MG's are variable frequency a.c. three phase devices - there are three d.c to a.c. inverters, along with a pair of d.c. converters.
