What a overall great car but a massive turn off thanks to a cheap low res infotainment system that doesn’t even have apple car play or google auto ??? ( who signed off that decision as being okay ? It’s a must have feature on virtually every car for the last several years ) Never understood the car companies that cheap on on outdated infotainment systems, costs then a few quid to get a much better one.
It did not have apple and android auto for maybe initial 6 months, then software update added the functionality. Also, all Corollas sold in Europe and produced in 2022 got completely new infotainment.
No one ever.compares servicing costs. When your buying a car thus is important unless you have bucket loads of foldin stuff. Toyotas are cheaper to service compared to others in the same class
The dial to adjust the seat is the worst way to adjust your seat. I have never seen anyone complain about the lever since its typically the superior and easier version to adjust the seat.
I can’t agree about the comparison with the ford focus as a ”drivers car ” I owned a focus and went straight to a 2.0 L Corolla. The corolla is way, way better in almost every thing. The only downside to the ”rolla” is the boot space and backseat space.
@@rightlanehog3151 I wish Toyota (all car manufacturers honestly) would just standardise their car names and model availability globally. Not only the looks are subjective.. are you really saying that a dial to adjust angle of the seat is better than what Toyota has..? I always hated the dial .. and when buying a car it would be a really big con for me that would stop me from buying a car
No Android Auto. No Apple car play. The fact that Toyota have failed to in include these apps. Why would anyone consider a car that can't fit what many people expect to be fitted as standard. You have missed a trick there Toyota. Shame because I love the way it looks.
The Prius Prime starts at $27k. While the battery falls short of the Chevy Volt RIP and Honda Clarity, I do respect that it's the least expensive plug in, and has better fuel economy running on gasoline than other plug ins. And some people only need 20-25 miles of electric range.
"That's great if you can plug in at home" Plugging in at home takes your own parking space and your own electric meter. In the USA, single family homes, duplexes, and townhouses (maybe called row houses in other parts of the world) covers 80-85% of households. I haven't checked data for other countries. The battery of PHEVs are small so even level one charging will top off the battery overnight. Based on the housing demographics of the USA, the "not everyone can plug in at home" is overblown as most people can. It may be true however that younger people who are more interested in EVs are more likely to live in apartments.
Very helpful. The review tells me why I shouldn't bother looking at one: The absence of blind spot warning. In the areas where I usually drive, it's one of the features that are rapidly becoming very important.
Why is there now only one option for the interior on this car and not the really nice looking grey and alcantera that it looks like you could get a couple of years ago? 🤔
I am still disappointed N. America did not get the hybrid this year as my lease was up already, but the new Corolla hatchback is a pleasure to drive relative to the 2016 models. My new hatch has flaws, but the positive side of it is too great to make it feel like a poor choice. Note: the JBL sound system and electronic driver's seat is a must; go with XSE. Smoked paprika is a beautiful color.
I have a warning for anyone considering this car: there is a shadow created by the shape of the headlight housing on the driver's side low beam. It obscures night vision and unless Toyota recalls this car, it's not fixable.
When does the engine kick in? Is it determined by speed or revs? Also if you're coasting with your foot off the accelerater does the battery the power then vehicle?
Straight from the Toyota marketing/propaganda department. I used to be a Toyota fan, but with their attempts to discredit battery electric vehicles and blatant spin about "hybrid self charging" I won't be considering Toyota cars in the future.
Hybrid system really efficient, but after driving both Mazda 3 and Corolla, i buyed the first one...because of following reasons: -sound insulation better in Mazda -materials used inside -design of Toyota 'peppered' with so many lines and edges, this to hide simple compact car silhouette -Mazda design simply superior
ahhh, Toyota why are your infotainment systems so bad, I know cars are made n years in advanced, but no one wants a touch screen which is put to shame by the iPhone 1.
One question, why do you compare a hatchback Toyota with an Octavia. The Octavia isn't a hatchback it's a larger 5-door. If you like to compare take a rapid or new Scala those are more in this range.
@@Voltuss5 thanks. I do a lot of commuting for work around 20k a year and petrol is 400 a month on my 64 reg ibiza which has done 156k miles! I am looking for saving petrol, would you say a plug in might be better? Also any issues? Also what mpg do you get on it?
@@mysticmaiden2000 It's really good for fuel unless you have to go up a lot of hills but even with 40% hill climbing you only do about 5 liters per 100 km
Great review! I was looking into this one as an alternative to the Camry Hybrid which has the highest safety rating around if you get the optional headlight package. Unfortunately this one doesn't have a perfect safety rating. That's all I'm willing to go with after seeing a loved one die in a car accident. I've had Corollas though in the past and my family had Corollas and they are excellent cars. If they could just get the safety ratings to all perfect five stars instead of one being a four I would buy it. If anyone cares the Prius also doesn't have a perfect safety rating either. Only the Camry, with the hybrid with the headlight package being the safest of them all.
A J maybe by the time I need to buy one Subaru will have a hybrid, but I looked at their current lineup and there was nothing that fit my needs. They're definitely on my list of brands to consider though!
You should not forget that the most important safety feature is right between the driver's seat and the steering wheel. Crash test ratings are only comparisons, not a guarantee of anything. Choose what's best for you.

I know the Toyota and the Skoda are in a different class but for my purposes which is almost entirely commuting to and from work it makes more sense for me to stick with my Skoda which will do 60mpg and costs almost a third of the price of the Toyota.
that design you reviewed is a 2020 in America although we don't have the hatchback model yet. In the states, we get Apple CarPlay, sedan, no heated seats, and crappy cloth on arm rest and door arm rests... I hope the American person for materials and market design gets fired for the garbage cloth and no hatchback model. I like mostly everything else about the car. We have the 1.8L engine and I'm more than happy with that paired with the solid/reliable planetary gear set transmission. The Ford Focus is garbage compared to this vehicle, please don't compare apples to oranges.
You can't even put in the same phrase Toyota and VW when it comes to reliability..if you buy a Toyota you have a option to drive it for the rest of your life...I sold my 4runner with 340k miles on it and it was running perfectly.
I just bought a 2021 corolla hybrid in the US. Not sure if this video is a scam, or if the version in the US is just that much different, because mine is so much different
Since they've moved the battery on the back, they could add more batteries to increase the distance to drive on full electric mode or even give more power to the electric engine
No. The battery they moved to the back is just the starter battery. The hybrid battery is located below the rear seats as with any other hybrid made by Toyota. Also you still got some space below the false floor in the trunk in the 2.0 version.
Why? They're dodgy at best, if you pass a nearby lamp post or sign it starts beeping like hell, don't even want to bring up a narrow back road with bushes. Collision detection and automatic breaking are the only real options i'd go for.
Blind spot warning has saved me several times over the past five years. Mine have never flashed “going by a post”. I will only purchase a car or SUV that has blind spot warning. I’m not forcing anyone to buy the feature for their car. I’m just glad it’s a feature that’s available. Don’t get it on YOUR car if you think it’s not necessary for you.

I want this car. Will upgrade in 2020 from my Yaris to this beauty !
Volkswagen golf is way better
@@hiiiofficial8306 umm this Corolla will outlast that junk Golf
@@hiiiofficial8306 I don't think so mate. this corolla is by far better than golf

I have this car now nearly 3 months, what you point out was very aqurate, handling might focuse or Golf be a little bit better but nowhere near Crolla running cost and relibility and price and technology comes Stansted on this, btw when it's on sport mode 1.8 litre petrol and electric engine go fast for sometimes use ,
I was surprised when I sat behind in corolla and I am 190 cm and thats tall.. I had no issues whatsoever with head and leg space.. Those are empty complaints unless you are 200cm+
I have driven this car 5 days and it's awesome
This Corolla design looks best in class compare to the rivals. The hybrid powertrain is best in class also. Best quality in the longrun, can we trust british built......? Hope so.....
Absolutely reliable but tight space on the back seats and small boot that's an only negative part hopefully new cross fixed this issue
you can always buy the estate version of the Corolla, more space in general.
@@Dorfus2323 I live in Australia there is not much estate version just hatch and sedan in Toyota Australia
What a overall great car but a massive turn off thanks to a cheap low res infotainment system that doesn’t even have apple car play or google auto ??? ( who signed off that decision as being okay ? It’s a must have feature on virtually every car for the last several years )
Never understood the car companies that cheap on on outdated infotainment systems, costs then a few quid to get a much better one.
I hate that dial for the back rest, it takes ages of turning to get it right....much prefer the lever adjustment.
The dial to adjust the seat is the worst way to adjust your seat. I have never seen anyone complain about the lever since its typically the superior and easier version to adjust the seat.
I much prefer the Japanese-style lever for the backrest. Those turnwheels are always slow and fiddly.
I can’t agree about the comparison with the ford focus as a ”drivers car ” I owned a focus and went straight to a 2.0 L Corolla. The corolla is way, way better in almost every thing. The only downside to the ”rolla” is the boot space and backseat space.
I am on my second Corolla, love it and the perfect car for me. Your seat is on the wrong side as I live in Canada!!
Those lucky Brits get the much more practical wagon.
@@rightlanehog3151 I wish Toyota (all car manufacturers honestly) would just standardise their car names and model availability globally. I just got a new 2L 6sp Corolla Hatch in Australia and our 2018 model is called 2019 in USA also we get crappier option grades so reviews from international markets are misleading.
Present day car analysis...halfway through the video and still blabbering on about nonsense. How does the f**** car DRIVE???
Can't wait to get this car second hand in 10 years
They’re about 16Gs approved used now
Wow 64 mpg, that’s very economical, it’s as good as my 1984 1.2 litre Honda City.
Thanks for the review from France, we don't have the blindspot detectors too, even in the most expensive version.. but belgium have it..
It's got almost everything I want, except a plug. I'm happy to take 5 seconds to plug it in when I get home in exchange for fewer trips to get fuel.
That would require a bigger battery and probably add $10 to 15K to the price.
The Prius Prime starts at $27k. While the battery falls short of the Chevy Volt RIP and Honda Clarity, I do respect that it's the least expensive plug in, and has better fuel economy running on gasoline than other plug ins. And some people only need 20-25 miles of electric range.
@@piperar2014 I am confident a plug-in version will arrive some day.
That's great if you can plug in at home 🤔
"That's great if you can plug in at home"
Plugging in at home takes your own parking space and your own electric meter.
That silver and black looks great
Very helpful. The review tells me why I shouldn't bother looking at one: The absence of blind spot warning.
In the areas where I usually drive, it's one of the features that are rapidly becoming very important.
Wish I'd bought one of these instead of my VW. I'm on first name terms with the service team at the dealership...
The Prius model is probably coming to an end
Why is there now only one option for the interior on this car and not the really nice looking grey and alcantera that it looks like you could get a couple of years ago? 🤔
OMG, The dial is the old school, not the lever, the lever wich is used to adjust the seats is a much more convenient and modern solution.
I live in America🙃 how might I go about getting a car from another country 🤔 like this corrola hybrid hatchback
When does the engine kick in? Is it determined by speed or revs? Also if you're coasting with your foot off the accelerater does the battery the power then vehicle?
self charging hybrid that not needs to plug to be complicate, right??? :D:D:D -1 subscriber
Straight from the Toyota marketing/propaganda department. I used to be a Toyota fan, but with their attempts to discredit battery electric vehicles and blatant spin about "hybrid self charging" I won't be considering Toyota cars in the future.
Well I have hybrid Auris for about 3 years and yes, it is charging itself :|
Hybrid system really efficient, but after driving both Mazda 3 and Corolla, i buyed the first one...because of following reasons:
-sound insulation better in Mazda
-materials used inside
-design of Toyota 'peppered' with so many lines and edges, this to hide simple compact car silhouette
-Mazda design simply superior
If the GR Corolla looks like this with some subtle aero elements it might be the best looking hothatch on the market.
My partner has the GR Sport Corolla and it is amazing.
Why do you keep talking about the Skoda Octavia? And saying it’s in the same class?
Because...it is ? :)) both are compact cars, skoda superb is the one that is not in the same class with the corolla
ahhh, Toyota why are your infotainment systems so bad, I know cars are made n years in advanced, but no one wants a touch screen which is put to shame by the iPhone 1.
One question, why do you compare a hatchback Toyota with an Octavia. The Octavia isn't a hatchback it's a larger 5-door. If you like to compare take a rapid or new Scala those are more in this range.
I believe "what car' are sponsored by vw. Always vw brands mentioned in nearly every review they do.

If you really want safety you should go with a Subaru.
Good review, nice car, vast improvement over Auris BUT.... TOO expensive for a Corolla...!
1.8 Icon Tech with metallic paint - £26k (0-60mph in 11.2 secs)
2.0 Excel with metallic paint and sunroof £31k
Cost of Corolla Hybrid sedan in USA - $23k USD = £18k GBP
Cost of Corolla Hybrid in Japan - 2.7m Yen = £18k GBP
Think the Brits are getting screwed here....
Top Excel model is close to Golf GTi / Honda Civic Type R money
Icon Tech model is close to 150mph Hyundai i30N money
How come it's ten grand cheaper over there?
Wtf?

That infotainment system is worse than in my 2013 Auris hybrid which, although slightly smaller in size, is actually very quick and responsive.
I will stick with my Skoda Citigo which is about a third of what the Toyota is selling for and I can get 60mpg on my daily commute.
Andy Gibson completely different cars though, not even comparable 🤷♂️
I know the Toyota and the Skoda are in a different class but for my purposes which is almost entirely commuting to and from work it makes more sense for me to stick with my Skoda which will do 60mpg and costs almost a third of the price of the Toyota.
Would you rather have a self charging petrol car or a self charging electric car?
8:16 !!! If you know a bit about EV and hybrids you will have a strong opinion what is being said here.... :-(
I have one but after 234 miles it refuses to go any more. It doesn’t appear to self charge, am I doing something wrong?
Wtf have you done to it?!?
The car to rule the next decade. Thanks to Prius.
that design you reviewed is a 2020 in America although we don't have the hatchback model yet.
Which one in your opinion is the best overall
Corolla/ Kia xceed/ Alfa Romeo giulietta/ ford focus? Very curious your opinion
OH MY GOD ITS A BRAND NEW TOYOTA COROLLA THANKS ELLEN
I just bought a 2021 corolla hybrid in the US. Not sure if this video is a scam, or if the version in the US is just that much different, because mine is so much different
Have a good eveningNice! Thank you!
This is the best front end design
what do you mean by saying that Auris is not inspiring? Inspiring to do what?
Wish Toyota had put blind spot monitors on the car.
Why? They're dodgy at best, if you pass a nearby lamp post or sign it starts beeping like hell, don't even want to bring up a narrow back road with bushes. Collision detection and automatic breaking are the only real options i'd go for.
I’ve done well without last 13 years.
If you need them, you haven't adjusted your mirrors correctly.
@@lylewilliams1371 I would suggest you have your rear view mirrors showing the side of your car. This is a mistake. If you set your mirrors further out you will find you do not have a blind spot. But hey whatever works for you.
If you want great fuel economy without paying extortion amount of money then buy Hyundai ionic.
I’ve been using ionic for 4 months now and I’m getting 68 to 70 Mpg easily.
Android and Apple comes as an software update this year fpr even the 2019 models!
