The difference of squares of two numbers is 180. The square of the smaller number is 8 time

This question is confusing because x square which means it can only have two roots but if we do with substitution method the answers are minus 10 and 18 and if we do this with quadratic equation the answers are - 12 and 18 . But this is impossible causes x² contains two roots an x³ contains 3 roots but this is x square according to textbook. But if you see answer in books like MBD the answer is 18 and - 12 so for those who are confused I recommend you to go for 18 and - 12 which can be done with quadratic equation .( I can understand I am also confused)
