I assume in your simplicity you pressed the "thumbs up" button. However, I agree with Thomas: if you watch and listen to TS, you are not a simple man, because you have tastes that are denied to simple people.
While Tuba Skinny sounds good in any venue they play, They definitely sound the best on Royal St. Many thanks for sharing James and have a great weekend!
In addition to recording these fabulous musicians at the height of their powers, you are also chronicling the genius of Shaye Cohn. Keep up the good work !
I suppose you are right. As long as UA-cam keeps these videos up they will be preserved for posterity. I keep the originals on my computer just in case.
Thank you for keeping trad jazz alive . Tuba Skinny always play with heart and soul . Wish I could see and hear in real life but this is the next best thing.
It is great again to hear the sax player. He fits in perfectly with that great band. I have heard them a few times on UA-cam doing “Willy The Weeper,” a great old song. Always fresh when they play it. So a professional band.
Her Majesty the ChihuaRat has approved this video. & this absolutely SPLENDID & WONDERFUL group of SUPER-TALENTED musical geniuses. &, of course, the 1 & only Sir James Sterling, who always delivers the very best videos to make this old brokedown great-grammaw get up & dance her rickety hip joints off. Literally. 🙀Ouch.😖 THANKS, Y'ALL, & GOD BLESS YOU & KEEP YOU SAFE, ALWAYS, IN ALL WAYS!!!!!!!!! You are loved, & deeply appreciated for helping us remember there's still a truly BRIGHT side of life, & Tuba Skinny is as BRIGHT as it GETS. 🌟🎶👏🏿😘💓🐺🎶👏🏼🌟
If there is anyway they come somewhere close to oklahoma one day..... I love to know and see them. Watching for years.....just wish could see them one day.....
Many thanks, James. I won't yet again offer time stamps for this particular tune. However, I will just point out - for those who need it - that the 16-bar Chorus is heard for the first time at 00:20 to 00:40 and that the 16-bar Verse is heard only twice (following Shaye's conspicuous 'go to the top' signals) at 00:58 to 01:16 and 02:28 to 02:46. For anyone who would like to read an article (by a distinguished jazz writer whose blog has had well over a million visits) on the origins of this tune, try: playing-traditional-jazz.blogspot.com/2016/07/traditional-jazz-willie-peeper-and.html
At 2:47 the tune shifts keys from G Minor -to C major. the guitar plays a G7 to C G7 C A7, Dm, G7 C for his solo. The guitar is hard to hear. And then the band comes back in on the origin part of F7 to Bb. That short key change is wonderful.
Yes, the Verse of 'Willie the Weeper' is in G minor; the Chorus is in the related key of B flat major (not C). The Chorus starts on F 7 (not G7). The 'short key change' is in fact the Verse which, as I said, is also played at 00:58 to 01:16. The guitar solo at 02:47 is based on the Chorus, Todd having just led on the Verse.
I used to have an Uncle named Willy and he was sometimes referred to as "Weepin' Willy", for no particular reason that I ever was privy to! GREAT MUSIC, gang THANKS!!!! .
No doubt TS version is the best I've heard. So many have done this song over the years. It was probably the 2nd or 3rd song I remember hearing when I got to New Orleans in the mid 70's. Thanks a bunch James. You should post these on Rumble.
The lady on the cornet is awesome. I know she can play multiple instruments and leads the band. Awesome lady and good looking too. Shaye Cohn is her name.
"James Sterling ask Shaye and she answer it is a "Bach Stradivarius Model 184, known as the Shepard's Crook"".And i think it is the best Cornet Shaye has played on so far...😎🤠
Also, don't forget to listen to: "You Can Have My Husband (But Please Don't Mess With My Man)" originally written by "Tutti Frutti" author, Dorothy LaBostrie (Nov 1959). As Shaye Cohn of Tuba Skinny might reinterpret: "You Can Have My Cornet (But Please Don't Mess With My Mutes)" ua-cam.com/video/n8_jpTf6BTY/v-deo.html - j q t -
Wow, it sounds like Tuba Skinny now has a professional sound man on the job. Great quality on this one. I saw another video recently by them that had such bad sound quality that it should be taken off of You Tube.
That's just me with my cell phone camera. The acoustics on that spot on Royal Street were outstanding. Shaye even remarked about it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/0D25egPB-qc/v-deo.html
On the day this was recorded (April 1, 2022) they were playing in the street to protest the city not returning Royal St. to a pedestrian mall. Later that month, right after the French Quarter Festival the city relented and reinstated the pedestrian mall so the band can now play as in the past without traffic and without being harassed by the authorities.
I'm a simple man. I see Tuba Skinny, I press play.
Thank you for sharing their performances with the world.
You're not a simple man if you're watching and listening to Tuba SKinny!
I assume in your simplicity you pressed the "thumbs up" button. However, I agree with Thomas: if you watch and listen to TS, you are not a simple man, because you have tastes that are denied to simple people.
All those old jazzmen from New Orleans must be listening to this nice rendition and smile!

I must add that I agree with you. My observation is that as soon as any electronic amplification is added to the music the quality of the suffers.
It’s Majic

I love the sound of the soprano saxophone. I wish Brian had more to play and louder in these tunes.
Is Brian British?

Do they keep getting thrown off the street? What's going on Jim?

See Shaye is back with her old coronet
That's her most recent cornet, a Bach Stradivarius. You can see the signature sheppard's crook of the Bach Strad when she turns to her right at 1:16.
@@JamesSterling I know she gotten a Bach but I didn’t realize they had the ehepards hook
