    Keep Sue's pre-race observations coming if you can get her up on time, as the earliness doesn't seem to dull her wit. Also, I'm borrowing the line "you never realise how much of the world is edible until you walk with a Labrador", which is also readily applicable to caring for an infant.

      To be fair, she is usually the one getting me up early unless it is for a race! Was a good line about the Labrador wasn't it...

      Yeah Sue on good form. I had a coffee myself after the race and was good. Was a nice setting and fortunately weather was good but had not got too warm at the 9am start.

    Great video. You use Vaporfly only dirt roads... Or was it tarmac?

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  Рік тому

      It was Tarmac for basically for all the bits you did not see. So a very short bit of track for the start and a grass largely downhill finish. Fortunately everything is quite dry at the moment. I have used Vaporflys on part trail, part road races even when was a bit muddy. I find whatever fraction of a second you might lose off road, you soon make up for it back on the road.

    You know it's going to be a great video when Sue's behind the camera. Love to hear her pre race ponderings 🤣👌 super stuff guys. Great running Tim! Huge kudos! 👏🏅😎🤘

      Yeah just forget the running LOL ! No mud on heels on this one fortunately but maybe just a bit dewy when we arrived. Could have been a total mud bath - more akin to your preferred terrain. Sorry to hear of your injury. Hope it sorts itself in time for the 100.

    I am currently visiting the UK and wondering how I can be finding sunny Northern Ireland so challenging to sleep in. I normally live in South China, we do have air conditioning, but its much hotter outside which seems to force the body to adapt to warmer inside temperatures. I am still wearing a hat and gloves for running. How can anyone set a PB on grass? It would seem a lot more tiring than tarmac.

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  Рік тому

      Sue usually likes a fan in the bedroom often to my annoyance unless it is really hot! The race here was actually a road race. They just had us finish on the grass for convenience and safety.

      @@TimGrose Myself and my husband now plan to stay up later than 7 pm since its just blazing sunshine and rubbish thin curtains. Northern Ireland is usually just cloudy, I will never complain about it again! Where my Mother lives the Park Run is entirely on bumpy grass which does get rather churned up.

    Great running Tim. have done this race 3 times so brings back some memories. My fairly modest goal was to break 70 minutes and the last time I was here I was on course but the wheels came off at the hill around 7 miles. It was a very warm morning which didn't help. Would love to find a fairly flat 10 mile race ideally not in the summer as I do tend to struggle in longer distance races in warmer weather.

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  Рік тому

      Was my first time here. I thought be good to try some longer races outside an actual marathon training period. Yes that hill you do for the second time at about 7 miles is quite a testy one. My tactic was to hold back a bit up it as others around me seem to attack it too hard because once we got over the top they seemed to then slow down for a rest! Cue me able to not only pull back the gap but push on. Was quite warm yesterday but having just got back from Portugal at least was sort of used to it. I did the Great South Run (a 10 miler) in the autumn of 2019 and that is certainly a flat & fast one. Not so many 10 milers around these days. It is a quite a good distance as need to be more patient than a 10K but over quicker than a half !

    Well done Tim. Portugal certainly would have helped the heat acclimatisation.
    That was a very decent run - defo something to build on. You’re in decent shape despite the layoff.
    Looked like a great race - it was my club Grand Prix event but don’t feel fit enough for that distance at the moment and didn’t want to take chances after the mile race the day before.
    Yeah, you interviewed Nick Tearle, the guy who looks younger than 50. Fellow England masters athlete who ran with me at the half against Wales in Tenby last year. Great guy and superb M50 - he came into the age group not so long ago.
    Another entertaining contribution by Sue… she had me laughing at telling fellow club member and all round good guy Bob Dean to go and “entertain a bush”😂

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  Рік тому +1

      Yeah thanks. All in all was quite pleased especially as was able to hang in there. Did too bit much on Saturday with golf in the AM and then an hour plus "shakeout". Duh! Not sure had spoken with Nick before. I guess when you get to 56, somebody at 50 is "young" LOL! Know what you mean about being fit for the distance. I think this right on the edge of what can get away outside marathon training and the hills here make it harder although was a bit surprised that is was sort of mostly flat except for 2 testy drags on each of the 2 laps plus late on through Betchworth. At least the last mile is mainly downhill and was able to get everything I had left out. Are you running tomorrow in the 5K? Impressed to see you got the track sub 5. If you try a 1500 see how close to 4:30 you can get.

    • @josephgonzalez_

      @@TimGrose not doing the 5k tomorrow, as I’m doing the 3000 in Wimbledon Park the next day. Will be doing the August VAC 5k though.
      Yeah, I think I’d like to jump into a 1500 quite soon, taking advantage of all the track work I’ve been doing lately - before I focus more on 5k and, especially. 10k. Do you know of any 1500s coming up? Presumably you’ll do some?
