  • After the success of the previous version of this video, and after reading all the requests and questions about it, I expanded it to make it more self-contained. Previously, it was fine for my students who have been following my lectures for a whole term, but on UA-cam, many of my followers were asking questions that were not addressed in the video.
Special thanks to the wonderful people of Hackaday, who have featured the previous version of this video in the latest edition of their virtual magazine. Thanks, Mr. Al Williams for your kind and right-on-the-money review.
I have emphasized the importance of knowing the slopes of the plot in non-horizontal segments, not only the decibels at critical points (or degrees, in the case of phase plots). This will define the order of a filter later on in the course. It also implies the width of the transition band in a filter.

Hi Professor! I just wanted to thank you for your careful and well prepared insights into electrical engineering!
I have studied from your videos since 2015 and after being a professional engineer for 4 years, I still watch your videos because of the impact you've had on my life :)
I also studied electrical engineering from the author named Ray DeCarlo who wrote Linear circuit analysis. I think you mentioned that book in one of your earlier videos and that caught my attention!

Mr. Kahlon, It is very rewarding to hear of the positive impact that my videos have had on younger colleagues and their professional lives. Prof. DeCarlo's book is an excellent one, it is one of the reference books for my courses. It is the only one of the three books that I recommend that covers filters sufficiently for a second-year engineering course. Thank you for writing.

@@rolinychupetin Thank you as well for writing such a wonderful reply, professor! This has really made my year!
Yes, I still get a cold sweat from the memories of the latter half of the book!
I work on big green standby Cummins generators that are sold all over Canada so if you see one around the city or campus, you must know that your online students are putting their skills to good use! Have a wonderful rest of your year

    Hi Prof.!
I did the technic from 5:44 to find the anchor with a "high pass filter of order 2" but without success :
    I explain :
    from 2 high pass filter of order 1 (gain k1 , cut frequency = wo1) and (gain k2 , cut frequency = wo2) I get :
    k1 j w/wo1 k2 j w/wo2
    ----------------- ------------------
    1 + j w/wo1 1 + j w/wo2
    I get all gain = k1 * k2
    and limit H(s) when w -> infinity => 20 log ( abs (H(infinity))) = 20 log abs (k1*k2)
(it is verified with visual simulation)
    So :
    k1 s / wo1 k2 s / wo2
    ----------------- ------------------
    1 + s / wo1 1 + s / wo2
    k1 s k2 s
    ------------- --------------
    wo1 + s wo2 + s
and the total gain would be :
    k1 * k2
    ----------------
    wo1 * wo2
Can you tell me the wrong step ?

Please, talk to me after class, this Monday, outside of IRC-2.
