  • At 8:40, it seems to me that kids are losing their cars in Walmart and they are re-packaging them and selling lost used toys.

Ahhh the power of free speech at it's finest right here! Hey Mark, I had to chime in on this one. I have dealt with Walmart at many levels, as a consumer, a product developer and outside vendor. As a product developer I once had a manager tell me "We'are Walmart, we can put a turd on the shelf and it would sell". That about sums up the level of cockiness you will find at management level.
As with all retailers they have proper procedures in place for returns. This could be another case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing. All this said, I'm sure the folks over at Mattel would not want their product represented on the pegs in this manner let alone for the most popular Hot Wheels collector on UA-cam to have this experience and bring world wide attention to the matter.
I no longer do business with Walmart however I do shop there and any problems I have go straight to the store manager . I bypasse customer service and department managers as they are just buffers between you and getting the problem solved. If the store manager does not comply there is always a district manager. Beyond that you could take it all the way up the chain of command to the corporate headquarters in Bentonville.
I think you were more than gracious in the matter my friend.

There is problem number 1, waiting 20 mins for a manager to turn up, obviously walmart need to get more staff who care. In a strange way this botched mess has turned your cars into collectable stuff. In the end it's only a toy, and toys have no power in consumer affair issues. Kids can't complain and that's what the stores are counting on. Captain RaceGrooves America

Mark, thank you for posting this. I have had issues with both Walmarts in my area and ran into the same customer disservice with management. The person who stocks both stores will pick cars before they hit the sales flooor and sells them in the parking lot in his uniform for a huge markup. Regular and super treadure hunts and special sets never see the floor. He sold two full cases of the Fast and Furious cars for $250 per set of 8 cars. He had sold supers for $50 each when he may havr not paid for them at all or at least used his discount. Management at the store level is aware of the situation and has done nothing and I have since notified the regional management and am waiting on a reply. Its sad that this happens and is allowed to happen by a company.

Wow. And people still buy it? That's crazy. Especially if he's wearing his uniform.

Aracely Guerrero Yeah he sold all 16 sets of F&F cars. People think that's the only way to get the collectibles in our area.

I'm sorry you had this experience. But am very glad you brought it to the publics attention. This is a problem that is so easy to fix, it seems crazy they act this way.
All they had to do was mark it down, put it in the clearance section with a sticker that says "mixed/damaged stock". The customer then knows it's not 100% right, and they get to sell it ethically.
We all appreciate what you did in bringing this to our attention. I'm very sorry you had to waste your time trying to get this solved.

What a shame! I've seen that at my local Walmarts, seems to me that Walmart is greedy and wants to make every little cent they can squeeze out of the customers no matter how it's done. Thanks for sharing this video sir.

It's not Walmart doing this. The people at the returns don't know the difference of a returned item from diecast cars. All the Walmarts and Target in the bay area always be returning cars by swapping the new for old and sometimes even those cheap flea market cars. Monthly I see this happening.

Thanks for taking the time to report the problem. Sorry they didn't take the issue/complaint seriously. Our Walmart here in Indianapolis, places a big sticker that reads "Damage/Clearance" . . . with a reduced price tag on it. This tells the consumer that something is wrong and to buy accordingly . . . no deceit. Mark I'm already a subscriber to you . . . so i just will "Like" the video and click the ads :)

Derek Morey This wouldn't be a problem if people didn't steal from the stores but in this case, Walmart, or somebody associated with Walmart, or even a Mattel rep, is taking loose cars turned into Customer Service and re-packaging them and putting back out for re-sale. Thanks for watching.

I had this same thing happen to me a couple years ago with some Boulevard cars. Someone had bought them, drilled out the rivets, swapped out the rubber tires for plastic mainline wheels, re-glued them and returned them. I brought it up to a manager and the next day they were back on the pegs. So I complained again and they finally disappeared. I see multi-packs all the time with cars swapped out or missing altogether, and M2 packages with HW in them. Add all this to the fact that I have several stores in my area that employees take the rare cars and/or call collectors in the area so they can get them first, Walmart has officially lost my business.

  • @BramCollier
    @BramCollier 9 років тому

I understand your frustration. That's something unacceptable from a big store like that. I see cars being swapped out over here in Belgium too but i've never seen a DAMAGED car put in a package by the store. If they put a random loose car in a damaged package they try to sell it for the full price over here but if you ask for a discount you'll get it. I did that a few times and got 50% off each time because they know they won't get rid of it otherwise.

Hello Mark, I work for Target Australia. Specifically on the Backdock. We often receive broken merchandise to discard/write off. I can tell you that above our back desk area there are literally 10-30 loose toys, toys from our store, fast food promotional toys and toys that look like they've seen multiple play sessions. I can tell you within this collection we have approximately 6 diecast vehicles. While I personally haven't ever experienced any of these toys being repackaged; I can assume that if we have had a higher theft problem these toys would more than likely find them selves repacked incorrectly/falsely. It isn't the only place that I have worked for where I have found one of these so called 'toy boneyards', I have worked for two other retailers and they have both had the same type of area. I can also tell you that at the moment our collection is purely for fun and to ad a little amusement to our otherwise bland work environment. I hope this helps you, Thank You for bringing this problem to the attention of unknowing consumers. With my kindest regards from the land down under

Same thing happens over here in England. I once bought 2 Matchbox Blizzard busters or two frost fighters, I forget, and one was the recolour. So when I paid for them, I was charged 2 different prices, when I asked why the lady she was like "it must be a different kind or a special type" and wouldn't do anything about it. It makes you wonder what happens in other departments. Sainsbury's in my area are notorious for putting the price tickets and special offers (buy on get one free, 15% off) in the wrong places to try and catch people out, some times they even place the special offers over the price ticket of other items too.
Also Hot Wheels were on half price once there and when they sold out I asked if they had anymore and they brought a fresh case out from the back, however they didn't re-stock the HW tray until a week after they brought the case out for me to avoid restocking while the offer was on, loosing a weeks worth of sales to avoid selling at half price is pretty shady in my book.

My local Walmart had the same problem with a customer. They stated to him that the cars were all alright in the right 5 pack. When my friend took out the cars to show the manager he told the manager that 4 cars were hot wheels and 1 was ,such is. He contacted his Walmart support service and they gave him a free assortment. I believe that Walmart's security is weak especially my local Walmart in which anyone can go to the back of the store and steal a car or mix and match a car just because it is so far from the employees. I'm sorry to hear that this happened to you and I hope somethig gets done about it.

I always disliked that Walmart. I prefer going to the one on Beach and Imperial. But I think all Walmarts has repackaged or damaged stuff at the clearance section... I can't believe this was not and at regular price. It's really bad. I often worry about other stuff being opened and have a habit making sure the seal on peanut butter or face cream--etc--was not tampered since in the past I would toss it away tampered products wasting money because they refuse to exchange or return the fee.
Just wondering... Are the green tag items at Mattel okay? The toys do not seem broken... I don't want used products if I am going to a store.

Here in the Detroit area someone has been buying M2's and swapping out the cars with basic HW's. Returning the Auto Haulers minus the cars & returning HW's 9 packs with cheapo dollar store cars. I showed this to many Walmart store managers. They removed the items and next day, bingo back on the shelf. I even messaged M2 about it. Some of the stores are 50 miles apart.

Green Light same in South Jersey -but usually they don't even swap in a car! Sorry I didn't read your comment before I posted my own rant that covered some of the same ground.

Hi Mark, this even happens in our store alot, not five packs, but singles. The cars are not swithed but just torn right out of the packaging! But in our store something even bigger happens. They even steal cars out of track sets!!!!!!

This happens all the time and my walmart. They have 9 packs and about a month ago they had about 8 on the shelf and all were filled with old and scratched up cars! I did not bother to take it to customer service cause they never do anything about it.

It wouldn't surprise me if they did put found cars into busted packs, it actually sounds like something Walmart (and other stores) would do. They think kids are the only ones buying these toys and they can get away with it, because no one will know. Thanks for posting this, it needed to be said.

I this see it all the time here in Canada at Walmart, packages all gummed up with tape, matchbox cars in hot wheels 5 packs and vise versa, action figures heavily taped in wrong packages

Very uncalled for. I should also take the time to talk to Mattel about the situation I ran into last night at a Walmart. I asked if they had any cases, employee said no. I stayed around looking at matchbox and AW cars. This man shows up a few minutes later with pizza and the employee said follow me. So I decided to follow them and behold. 9/10 cases in the back of the garden center.

Mr.Grooves, you're right,I also saw on Ebay, they said the Grease 40 Ford turned into the Morris Mini, that's not so good,I think buyers will angry if they buy restock stuff!

Oh my goodness, this same stuff happens at my local walmart in Puerto Rico, but differently. See, hotwheels collectors here often apply for a job at these stores so that when the store receives new merchandise they can steal the more valuable cars like treasure hunts and supers and sell them for a much higher price right at the store's parking lot! One time, I approached an employee and said to him: " hey you got some treasure hunts and supers to sell?" He responded: " Come with me ". Now, by the time we arrived to his car in the parking lot, I had already called the police and they were waiting just outside of the store to make the arrest. When police saw him take out the treasure hunts and other valuable pieces of his car to show me, the officers went ahead and arrested him and took him into custody. Last I heard about that employee, he was out of a job and was fined. It's a shame this is happening but, oh well I guess we'll just have to watch out and choose wisely where we buy our cars. Good luck to all the collectors and I really hope this doesn't happen anymore to all of you out there that are trying to just enjoy this wonderful hobby...

I see the same thing too that happen at Meijer. I collect 1:18 scale cars and Meijer have one car that is beat up missing parts and I told the employ about the car and said that it need to go back to the company, the next day it was back on the shelf and price is $30.00. I told them again and the same thing that happens. They don't care at all.

Another reason why I HATE Walmart! Their customer service is horrible! I always find these used packages and random cars all mixed up at the diecast aisle.

Top marks for the video. I wish I had seen it a while ago - I bought a new printer from Argos Store (UK) and failed to realise the significance of the tape around the box.!! Without realising, I'd bought a secondhand printer with empty ink cartridges........!! So, many thanks for wising people up, GOOD MAN

I've seen the marvel the marvel 6in figures that have been swapped with oldder/cheap figs M2s swapped for cheaper cars, and other stuff told them and showed them they put in the "go back" basket then next day it's right back on the pegs. too much time and pain in the rear to keep bringing it up.

I noticed a Generations WFC Megatron, put back in it's packaging in a terrible, dreadful, and shameful way. Not only that, the instructions are gone. So I take it to someone to deal with it. A month later, found it back on the pegs, and it didn't look tampered or anything, so I guess they brushed it off. And yes, it was Walmart.

And these people want to unionize and get $15 an hour to not do their job. These returns happen in my area too. I have also seen packages with cars literally cut out of the box.
