I think it is fair to say that Britain will either have to regularise its landscape to be able to use even the medium sized vehicles. What is becoming clear is that country lanes are becoming more difficult to negotiate with both these size vehicles and other road vehicles. Parking, banks and verges struggle and villagers are becoming less enthusiastic as they have less connection with the land.
If they want to eat they’ll have to get used to it, it’s more that no one has any patience anymore !.
@@Hesston4860s No I disagree with that statement. It is not about impatience, though I agree there is plenty of that. But if machinery is to be transported on narrow back roads, over bridges with limited tonnage capacity, tearing out hedges and compressing drainage grups so that surface water can no longer escape and forcing sometimes commercial vehicles to make long distance reversing without a banker there has to be some revision as what vehicles use what roads. Many of the minor B class and C class roads in Britain have only been surfaced since 1920 with a tar skim over a surface that could contain fist sized loose stones. My Father in the twenties motorcycled over many of these roads in daily use and competition. Photos of the era are most interesting see Golden age of British Motoring 1900 to 1940. My own village has a bridge that crosses a stream at a point that was once a wash. A low bridge was installed that was washed away in floods of 1912. It was replaced by an arched bridge which was widened in WWII to allow bombs tho be carried from a dump to a two bomber airdrome and now has a concrete floor underneath to prevent washout that affected many local bridges in 1968 foods. Many local bridges are limited to 7.5 tonnes but farm vehicles often ignore this.
This does not make farmers bad people but it does not reflect well on them or the industry. What is the average size of the farm today? I would hope it has increased from 250 acres of a decade or so ago. This is why I enquire that there may have to be minimum block sizes and field dimensions to be able to use modern machinery.
My son several years ago attended a John Deere meeting when a member of the trade audience enquired about certain modifications for the British market. They were politely told that the whole of the JD sales in Britain from pedestrian mowers upwards did not amount by a long way to the income made from the smallest American state. This shows the problem British farming has. How many traffic tunnels under older motorways allow modern farm machinery to pass under on private roads?
The advent of the fast track and its reaction to the road haulage industry has resulted in the red diesel embargo over distance travelled. Destruction of minor roads cannot be expected to continue over a distance of time without reaction because already communities are finding a small local bridge may be blocked for best part of a year between declaration of unsafe and renovation or replacement. This sort of limitation means finance has to come from other local funds.
If farming were to only be functional in say 1000 acre blocks minimum how staggering would 5hat be to this industry? These are the financial and political questions that should be looked at now and aired in public rather than worries about labelling. People are buying the cheapest food! Only a fragmented portion of the middling income people glue and chain themselves to things. Running an electric piece of machinery does not make a farmer green. We have to be more honest in our arguments on both sides of the divide. What do we want our manufactured countryside and its industries to look like in the future? The days of the Spitfire are long gone we now have to look forward to the next jet!

As a non farming person I think you would be astounded at the cost of this equipment. It a strange thing there is never prices on anything it this type of shows, unless it it very cheap. Guess if you have to ask then you can’t afford it 😂😂
