I'm 70 years old living in the states I've been a person that has stocked up since I was in my early 30s. I only buy markdown meat I shop the clearance and markdown aisles of every store I go into even pet food feeding 4 indoor cats and a few strays. One example I found 24 oz jars Ragu spaghetti sauce for 57 cents a jar I bought enough jars to last me a year according to expiration date. Shopping this way has saved me a lot on my budget. I shop church sales, thrift stores and garage sales you would be surprised at what you find new with tags still attached.. I'm so well stocked up that I am able to pick and choose what I want to buy and at what price so not buying much right now
@debbieframpton3857 that's brilliant, I find it gives me a sense of calm to not have to worry if we have a tight month for whatever reason, I know we've got what we need to get by.
Great video, I am a great believer in stocking up on any item you usually buy when it’s on offer. I do this with all my shopping. I have a second purse which I originally put £50 in to bulk buy any bargains I then sell these things to myself to top up my purse. Anything left in the food budget at the end of each month goes into this purse as well. If you have the storage space this method can save you a fortune over the year.
Use envelopes for each weeks housekeeping and don't go over budget, have a small tin with money infor 6 weekly freezer shop stock ups! Works well for us. I like to see the cash I'm spending rather than paying on card. Old fashioned but I like it! X
you did brilliant. i try to stock up when the prices are low enough but recently its been harder as everything seems to have gone up in price but sometimes there is the odd bargain to be found. im still doing well with olio collections so the money saved there not being spent on food can go towards stocking up the other household items ❤
Samantha have a look at the Clean & Green book by Nancy Birthwhistle. I got it from the library. Great book and cheap ingredients. I made 2 large bottles of laundry liquid from one bar of olive oil soap and washing soda etc. peace 🧚
Do you have the shop Savers near you? I find some of their things a good price. They should have shampoo bars. Gald you did your major shop now. April will be when companies have to pay 5% more on NI. Which will mean either they reduce staff, reduce shops or raise prices to cover this...
Wall Flowers UK recently did a post on making a laundry liquid using English Ivy? have you heard of it? When we thaw out I plan to give it a go. Also with boughten liquid you can use at least 1/2 less and still have clean clothes. I shop yearly for certain items as well, but only when they go on offer, as you say. And have things stored all around. Very old house no cupboards or closets! 200 yrs ago people didn’t have all the STUFF we feel necessary? Susan
@@tryingtogetby We here in the states call it English ivy, but its the one you probably think of as common as I see it everywhere in videos of the UK climbing trees and covering the ground. Susan
Have you tried soap nuts for laundry ? I buy a kg bag which lasts me 6 months ( I’m single) . I’ve been using them for years . I use stain remover in the same way I would if I used normal stuff. The soap nuts cost about 10 _ 15 pound a kg.
@AtHomeWithMercedes they're not something we use very often. We don't have a bin as such in the kitchen, we have a drawer system for waste and recycling.
@olgawren4214 I used to get them in Tesco, but haven't seen them for a while, I think I've seen them in Home Bargains, but my last lot was from Amazon.

I store hotel soaps in the airing cupboard. It really hardens them up and they last way longer.

@olgawren4214, I bought them in Aldi. I'm in Ireland, but its likely that Aldi in other countries may stock soda crystals.
