If you're having some trouble getting the stamp filter to work with your image, try the torn-edges filter or halftone pattern filter (located in the same area). Torn edges is not exactly the same, but produces a relatively-similar effect with more control so you don't have to have an image with very specific lighting. The halftone pattern works as well, but is a bit different stylistically compared to the two.
These are by no means end-all solutions, but if you're struggling to get the look to work with your images, I found these to be good alternatives.

0:36 before adding the stamp filter press D on the layers tab, this should prevent the full black or white image

Pressing D does nothing. I click on the "effects" layer tab within the Filter Gallery and nothing happens...What are you trying to achieve, you didn't say...

to do this on anything else, just turn contrast all the way up and lighten and darken it to your liking, and use a magic wand tool to select all of the white and add whatever color you want

I dont know why, but when I add "stamp" my image simply become a huge blur and way far from the effect you showed on the video. WTF

Love this bro - quick thing I am having trouble with too as I saw another comment - im not sure if its the resolution or something I am missing, but when I englarge my image on my screen to 100%, the stampd effect looks super blotchy almost pic artsy; I noticed your stamp says 12.5%, when I zoom out, the image looks like yours (I even screenshotted the same image) , but when I zoom into 100%, it looks really bad/ cheap again. Any idea of why this may be/ a fix? Thinking @saran may be having the same thing happen
Update: So when I choose the default photoshop size portrait (5x7) it looks shitty - but when I used the resolution you're using (3508x4961) the effect worked much better. I'm not too too experienced in photoshop so if you have any insight on this that would be great lol

@@AHH932 you might need to have a dark background color for your image. I got it to work when i changed that. You can adjust the stamp settings for whatever works for you like he said

when i try to do this after the stamp, my original black and white photo turns into a red color, im not really sure why
you prob figured it out in the time since this comment was posted, but the background colour of the stamp effect would be whatever colour you have selected in that pane (in the section where you'd choose a colour for a brush, for example)

Check the Foreground and Background colors in the tools panel.
You can reset the defaults by pressing the D key which should set the foreground Black and background White and then try the Stamp filter.

Also doesn't work for me. I add the grain effect and it's fine, but when I add the Stamp effect on top the image goes to white and a peach colour.

Type your text > convert to smart object > apply 5 points gaussian blur > add 5 points noise > filter gallery > follow video steps.
