Educational correction: The katana is not the long sword of the samurai. The longsword would be the nodachi or the odachi. Though technically it can be called a katana as it translates to "sword" the specific name for the equivalent of the longsword is the nodachi.
I’ve been training in Musō Jikiden Eishin Ryū iaido for the last 9 years, it was definitely one of the best decisions I’ve made in life. It’s never too late to take up a martial art!
Glad to see Japanese Swordsmanship growing in the USA. If anyone is interesed to try it look for a dojo or school that teaches Kendo or Iaido near you. Or a Kobudo or "ancient marcial art" teaching Kenjutsu or Iaijutsu. They might also have Tamashegiri cutting as well.
Great choice..I am fascinated with Japanese culture! I love Japanese animation just to see the art,the history, the philosophy which get in between the animation..🙏🙏🙏💚🔥🌸
It's more of a art and sport than a direct way of fighting. Though it's true it's outdated, it's never a bad thing to learn unarmed combat our fighting without fire arms against some who has a a knife 🗡, bat , chair or blunt object .
Traditional swordsmanship is what I live for
