I suspect that this is mainly for markets like Asia and South America that have even more astronomical graphics card prices than America. Otherwise, use-cases involve SFF emulation machines, HTPCs, gaming cafes and mini PCs

So true. Here in India, the cheapest 7900XTX on amazon is like ₹1,20,000(which is $1450). Compare to the US, the cheapest on on amazon is like $920, which is like 35% cheaper. Same applies for the 4080 SUPER.

Great for SFF emulation PCs, which is a big niche for these products that reviewers miss. These will also end up in handheld PCs in one form or another within due time.

Got an 8600G for this reason. AVX-512, enough graphics, low power and heat profile. I do think the 8700g is a bit overpriced even for this niche though and the extra 100usd means I can get better ram and more m.2 storage.

speaking of the notion of the 8000g series bottlenecking a Dgpu, that screenshot is in 1080p. if someone was waiting on a gpu, they would get a gpu that can do more than 1080p. try this with 1440p or 4k in mind.
also, the performance from the gamers nexus screenshot, showed that the CPU with the gpu, still beat the 12100f, so buying it for a budget build is still going to bottleneck the user, regardless of which path they go.

Mate would i regret not buying a Ryzen 5 7600 setup instead of this Ryzen 7 8700G setup with the caveat that i first want to run only the iGpu then later add a monster gpu later? Reason for this is money plus i love older games so i'd love to test Dead space 2008 or Prototype 2 at 1080P with this setup and just see what the iGpu can do with these games then later add a gpu for games like Elden ring or Dead space remake 2023 and my current fave Grounded 1.4

Currently running on 7600x igpu because my rx580 died. I can’t even play Star Trek online smoothly at minimum setting with 7600x’s igpu. So if there’s going to be a considerable time gap till U get the discrete graphics, get the G suffix.

I'd imagine it'd be ridiculously sensitive to memory overclocking. Not only is ryzen 7000 non x3d already very sensitive but this has half the cache of that and an apu to contend with memory resources too.

The thing that really pisses me off with these APU releases is the configuration, they only ever put the top Igpu (in this case the 780m) on the highest end CPU. This is just farcical when you think about it, the reason people want these APU chips is for budget systems where a modern GPU is way to overbudget/expensive. Nobody who is looking to buy the top end, 8/12 core CPU is going to be running integrated graphics, if you are in the market for the highest end CPU you are not someone who is trying to build a gaming system on a budget. AMD could easily put the 780m GPU on the mid range 8600g or 8500g and then you would have an entry level/budget gaming system on a chip but they refuse to do this for some reason and insist that only the top end CPU can have the faster integrated graphics when as I pointed out the type of customer who wants or can afford the top end CPU is not the type of customer who will ever use that integrated GPU.
Honestly why do they do this? What is the deal? Just give us a midrange CPU with the best version of the Igpu and we have the ultimate low end gaming rig APU and it would sell millions.

I have been looking for a CPU to run game servers and also has the ability to transcode and host apps on a closed wired network. This CPU kinda fits the bill, idk if it will beat out the 5600 or the 7600. I'm really looking at the lowest possible power requirement overall for the whole system. This might be exactly what I need. I'm not interested in Intel at all, it's not a fanboy thing, I've been screwed over by them for so many years I just don't want to deal with them anymore or give them business. Until I see more info and benchmarks this is defiantly an option for me, I'll probably end up with 5600x a mini itx and a ebay GPU.

I could see someone buying it because of limited budget spending $329 for CPU that comes with a cooler and maybe they have another 5-6 hundred dollars to spend on future proofing with a good motherboard and ram and case. once they save enough money a year or 2 down the line they can spend another 3-4 hundred dollar on a good GPU and better cooler to possibly OC the CPU for better clock speeds.

8700G would be great value at 220 USD and 8600G at around 140. Maybe in a year after the 9000 series is out. Plenty of stock of 5000 series APUs to sell first.

What a stupid/pointless cpu. The onboard gpu is garbage. We shouldn’t be excited about 1080 low/potato settings. Looks like amd is using the 8700g as a dumping ground for getting rid of 7940hs chips that run too hot or pull too much power to be used in laptops.
Not to mention in many countries (mine included) you could buy a 7800x3d for a negligible price difference or a 7700 for less making the optics of this chip seem that is crazy overpriced.
