I'm 37 from NYC, that means I'm from right in the middle of this era. Do yall understand how obsessed we were in nyc about And1 streetball in general? It brought 5x more excitement than anything the Knicks did. summer at Rucker, Gauchos, Dyckman, Kingdome, West 4th, all over the boroughs, we were teenage feens in the late 90s/early 2000s. When the mixtapes came & ESPN starting showing on TV for the world to see, they started to see what we were already doing in NY. These open runs I see on IG now are manufactured excitement for social media. Back then it was authentic. Whether you were playing or watching, the love, the energy is what brought you. Even the girls loved it, even if they wasn't into ball like that. I'd pay good money to be 16-17-18yrs old again playing ball during the Height of And 1 era
Thank you for sharing these memories. I am from nowhere ville in the north of Argentina. Back then, when AND 1 mixtapes started being broadcasted via ESPN and reached my country I was 14 and probably only got to see the tail end of this amazing phenom. From an extremely different perspective I really enjoyed reading your close up experience enjoying these games. It made me enjoy it too. Thank you!
Yo it also hit Europe little later the Tour came here live in 07 with squad from mixtape vol Ares codes, but we got all the older tapes and shows and it took years for our coachces to get our games of and1 tricks cause i rather do little travel violation in order to do sumthin i saw these guys pull out haha!
“AO” was always my favorite AND1 player, I remember us fans stormed the court at halftime during their game at the Oakland Coliseum. I got to meet “AO” that made my summer 👏🏾👏🏾
AO came to the tri-state classic on 145th street (one of the biggest tournaments in NYC) and hit the game winner against a team that had some of NYC's toughest players. AO is a legend in my eyes, he's stamped.
I think AO hit the nail on the head on the marketing missteps with the shoes. These guys were the brand and their personality really carried the show when it got to espn. Competing with Bigger brands shouldn’t have been the goal so early. They should’ve focused on their lane because they really had it. All the UA-cam hoop stuff with creators that’s so popular is a by product of these guys. They’re were essentially “vlogging” on the show. Man… I can’t wait to see more of these!
Yoooo!!!! My 11-12 year old self wouldn’t have never even thought about the And1 guys having signature shoes back then! That would have blown my mind walking into my local store seeing a pair of “Aaron Owens”!! I remember seeing the shoes they wore from the tour and thinking I had to get a pair!! Great part 1! A.O. was always one of the guys I really liked and the way he played the game 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
A.O. Of all Deserved a NBA shot. During those crash the court games. He was the most Stable Guard against former pro’s and high level D-League talent. Meaning… A lil more muscle and a good link ups he would been solid as a back up. His game was real. I appreciate your contributions to the game A.O.💯💪🏾💙 Living Legend!!!
Appreciate you lot doing this, like somebody else said we need a 30 for 30 type doc on this saga. AO thank you for shining your light out there. Love from London UK
@@KiddSwagification factz...and i think sik wit it & baby shack as well...young half man half amazing too, he wasn't that flashy as the rest of the bunch , but was always playing hardnosed...reminded me of charles oakley a lil
Man I was like 12-14 obsessed with and 1. Trying to learn every move, got every game (street hoops ftw).. hot sauce and ao were my favorites. I found them from downloading old limewire videos lmao
AO, I remember when u came to St. Louis, when we still had the rams and I got tickets for my birthday. And u put on a mfn show man. I love you got making my bday man. Then I went to Philly and learned you were from there, you been my hero for years man. I literally got a tech for throwing the ball of the side of the backboard and took shorty to the rack
AO is a basketball legend, just because I'm a hockey player/ all sports guy and I heard of him here in Canada during his time in street ball. Pretty kool interview AO.
I wish they gave those Brothers signature shoes. The night before the 4th of July me and my little brother couldn't sleep knowing we had a pair of and ones they would have hit harder if I would have been like yo these the main events yo these the air up there
Damn AO look complete different than what I remember. There is a young cat name Duke that play for that ball is life bull shit.. I swear he remind me soooo much of AO
Here’s what I don’t understand...I watched a video where And1 was acquired by new owners and they pretty much cancelled the tours claiming And 1 was too “Street” and they were going for a more mainstream appeal 🤦🏾♂️. Think about it, And 1 pretty much pioneered digital content marketing through their VHS mixtapes and using the same strategy they could have been borderline like Redbull today. Look at what And 1 is today. They just post the same content from the hey days and interview the same people they looked down on. Don’t dictate culture, embrace it. AO is an absolute legend! I bet they realize now it’s these guys that made And 1 great.
AO was my fav player besides skip smh but man I tried to and did mold my game after AO and made his moves mines in a legal way I could use in a real game lol bruh was so tough Flowers deserve man 🙏🏾‼️
My man put hand checking up in this. That was real defense. I'm gonna use that to keep you in front. The league nowadays lets guys get 3 feet of space. As a 40 year old street baller, you got none of that. earn your crossover, earn your drive, earn your bucket. Beat the physicality with skill. The refs cant save you.
Do yall think can hand check any of the pros? Come now. Yall be snapping ya ankles and acl’s and still not stop the pros. Can you guys even beat the white mamba 😹
@@PhiyackYuh The game is relative to the level you play at. Hand checking is such a tough defensive tool at all levels. Taking it away lends freedom to offense. It's not about pros vs amateurs. It's about the effectiveness of the technique. The rule was abolished to increase scoring. I played ball in the late 80's and through the whole 90's. I was done competitive basketball before the rule change. That's the sole reason the 80's and 90's and early 2000's basketball was scoring under a 100, to today's 140 point games.
I loved these guys from and 1 and it’s a damn shame, because and 1 did them dirty, every single one of them should be millionaires or well off for all the damn money they made and 1
I’m a grown ass man ,6ft Hulk built like a linebacker but I have handles like Kyrie, all thanks to And1 lol . Ppl are surprised when I get to the court and start doing tricks 🤷🏿♂️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
