I imagine Ramin's version as an alternate reality of Les Miserables as one in which Enjolras manages to survive the final battle, but everyone else but Marius is dead. Grantaire too, lies dead as his feet and somehow, the bullets have missed him because the officer just could not shoot him, the flower that sparked the revolution. :(
Thaheera Althaf Olivia Lemke I actually have written an admittedly shitty version with Enjolras singing it: There's a grief that can't be spoken / There's a pain goes on and on / Empty chairs at empty tables / Now my friends are dead and gone / Here we talked of revolution / Here it was I lit the flame / Here we sang about tomorrow / And their tomorrow never came Tears were rolling down his face, and his voice broken, but he carried on From the table in the corner / We all saw a world reborn / And they joined with voices ringing / And I can hear them now / The very words that thry had sung / Became their last communion/ On this lonely barricade, at dawn... He put his head in his hands. He was sobbing now, voice drowned in tears. Oh my friends, my friends forgive me / That I led you to your deaths / There's a grief that can't be spoken / There's a pain that cuts my breath / And the blood that stains the windows / And the bodies on the floor / The empty chairs and empty tables / All were born from my fault / Oh my friends, my friends don't ask me / What your sacrifice was for... Suddenly his voice lost its force. He just couldn't continue. He collapsed back on the chair he didn't realise he stood up from, and the last words of the song came in a whisper, muffled by the violent sobs which shook Enjolras's shoulders. Empty chairs at empty tables / My friends died and it's my fault
Listening to this one as I think of all the sad events that happened in Paris last night. Ramin's voice hits you right in the core and moves you. He's absolutely fantastic.
Great song and great voice. Speaking about the phantom and about "Les Miserable", I must say I saw a lot of different versions, but he's the only one actor who's always perfect, no matter the role he plays!
There's a grief that can't be spoken, There's a pain goes on and on. Empty chairs at empty tables, Now my friends are dead and gone. Here they talked of revolution, Here it was they lit the flame, Here they sang about tomorrow and tomorrow never came. From the table in the corner, They could see a world reborn, And they rose with voices ringing, And I can hear them now The very words that they have sung Became their last communion On this lonely barricade, at dawn. Oh my friends, my friends forgive me That I live and you are gone There's a grief that can't be spoken, And there's a pain goes on and on Phantom faces at the window, Phantom shadows on the floor, Empty chairs at empty tables where my friends will meet no more. Oh my friends, my friends don't ask me What your sacrifice was for Empty chairs at empty tables Where my friend will sing no more.
Listening to this and thinking about all of the brothers, sisters, and other siblings that we lost at the Orlando tragedy. This is too much to process right now and this song takes the words out of my mouth. "Oh my friends, my friends, forgive me, that I live and you are gone."
To be fair, many other underrated Les Mis stage performers have played almost all the roles of their gender as well. This is specially true for people who performed Les Mis through many years, starting as understudies/covers for various roles. Killian Donelly for example, has played almost all male Les Mis roles except Bishop, Grantaire, Bamatabois, Marius, and Thenardier. I’m still amazed at Ramin as a singer though. I prefer him as Phantom, Enjolras or Marius over Valjean because his voice fits the other mentioned roles more. A Valjean for me must have a really high tenor voice like Colm Wilkinson or Killian Donnelly. On the other hand, both Colm and Killian played the Phantom as well, but they sing better as Valjean
I do feel the emotion he puts into it. I love his broadgrass style. The strings are eerily beautiful, and the 2 drum beats at "revolution" are dramatic. Ramin's voice and tone are incredible! He is one of the most genuine musicians and hard working actors I've followed.
All us Ramin Karimloo fans (Les Miserable, Phantom of the Opera etc.) are obsessive, but in a good way we are! I understand you! I can't get enough of his voice!
everytime i hear this song i just cant believe that all les amis are dead. i always imagine their faces full of fear before they got shot. i imagine enjolras dying with grantaire. and it hurts so much. like they are fictional but still. i cant believe that this group of boys is dead. they have never hold a gun. they helped people. they are genuine, sincere people and everyone of them has a unique personality. and they are gone. that line "now my friends are dead and gone" gets me everytime. the saddest thing ever
ann marie fictional, yes. But there were real boys that died during this horrifying event that was La Commune de Paris. We remember them, their sacrifice, even though it was for nothing in the eyes of the state, people remember. France is a country of revolutions and we will stand again.
beautiful, this is so much better then when i first heard him sing this a few years back. he has grown so much!!!!! i love listening to this songs where u can he how much he has improved!!!
For some reason the creaking into the chair and piano at the very beginning makes it that much more real and deep. I've been listening to this on and off for a long time and it's always beautiful and meaningful. Thank you so much.
Cornell Cannon Must disagree. I think Michael Ball's performance in the 10th Anniversary edition is my favorite. Nick Jonas really hammed up the whole show at the 25th, Eddie Redmayne was far too subdued in the movie - but Ball just knocked it out of the park, years and years ago. Tons of raw emotion. You really felt like he had lost his dearest friends, each and every one of them. Ramin is probably the man I adore most in theater, but he can't play EVERY role in Les Miserables.
Right in the feels, as all his songs do! I added this song in my Phantom phan-phic! Lol! I love his voice period. He is my Favorite Broadway male actor.
One of The most underrated song from the musical, thinking “Being him home “ was a more popular song choice. I recently have been to seen Les Miserable at a London theatre and was was blown away by this song and couldn’t stop my eyes from leaking lots of water. It is now my favourite song from Les miserable.
His voice is so powerful and moving... I read the books for my whole childhood and bursted to tears Now all the feelings as well as the memories of mine comes back and become so real thanks to this song and Ramin's amazing voice... Thank you!
i think this is his "Broad Grass" version... as in it's not exactly the Broadway version that we're familiar with. but this tho. RAMIN WHYYY ARE U SO PERFECT
I love this Version. Trying to learn this peace by heart. Its difficult, English is not my native language. Love the violinist by the way. Keep on singing.
Strangely this is one song that I don't mind certain voices singing it, of course Michael Ball sang it first and still sings it superbly but Ramin, does a fantastic job, and I loved Eddie Redmayne giving it his all, that was a talented performance.
I clicked on this like, alright I will give it a listen. Then his voice came on and it was a "well shit" moment, because now i'm going to spend 3:39 to listen to this because I can't exit it away. Then i'm going to listen to it again, for more or less another 50 times. Pardon me while I die.

phantom of the opera is here
wait what
i love you for this 😂😂😂
+VainillaValentine HAHAHAHAHA
+VainillaValentine *cues ramin karmiloo as phantom in the 50th anniversary*
good line!!!!
What if this song is the secret of the existence of the phantom?
When the Phantom just looked at the mirror and thought that's was a window.
"Phantom faces at the window"
😂😂😂
ho s lmao my wallpaper is literally Marius singing this with a bunch of Phantom of the Opera faces photoshopped onto the window.
Was he waving through the window?
lmao
Come on, Les Mis, Phantom, DEH.... someone make a Hamilton reference... And great comet while you're at it...
He's amazing, but shout out to that freaking amazing cellist!!
sean fleming shoutout indeed! They're fantastic!
The cellist is one of Sierra Boggess sisters. Summer Boggess
@@NOONE-cd4gu talent clearly runs through the family
@@sackoftrash9171 yep
I love how much emotion he gives this. He isn't just singing. He's playing the part
THIS DOESNT SOUND ANYTHING LIKE PHANTOM HE'S SO TALENTED
Joya Johnson it's from les Misérables
I think she knows that. She meant that his voice doesn't sound like it did in Phantom, which is true.
Joya Johnson he has a wonderful voice, but it still sound a bit like phantom for me.
The only time I heard phantom peek through was, ironically, when he was singing "phantom faces at the window"
Raisin Bran I can just see him winking XD

Exactly what in my mind while listening to the song.
Because I am hurt, and it is only right that everyone else feels the same, sweet, sweet, intoxication of pain.

MCLambert Listen to him sing Anthem from Chess. He is feeling it.
I started singing along, never before have I been silenced by a recording purely from its beautiful intensity
Great song and great voice. Speaking about the phantom and about "Les Miserable", I must say I saw a lot of different versions, but he's the only one actor who's always perfect, no matter the role he plays!
Matteo Pisano I'm convinced he could play every character in Les Mis.

My GOD! When he really opens up, i physically stop breathing, and i swear instantly start bawling
That classical guitar is chill-inducing.
so he's amazing as marius, enjolras AND valjean, now that's just unfair
He also played the Phantom and Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera. ;)

Ramin is my favourite male singer of all time
Angie R he is absolutely awesome 👌🏼👌🏼
The cello is a fantastic addition to this top notch rendition!
that violin playing is so beautiful never heard it before in the other versions
Ramin just gets better and better. Love the higher key as well it's so emotional and it works brilliantly with his voice!

30/07 2018 Ramin Karimloo is still one of the greatest singers of all time. Up there with Freddie Mercury.
For some reason the creaking into the chair and piano at the very beginning makes it that much more real and deep. I've been listening to this on and off for a long time and it's always beautiful and meaningful. Thank you so much.
This is so peacefully haunting... definitely an awesome rendition. I love his belt, too. It's got a great waver to it, almost but not quite, breaking.
Ramin is incredible!!!! Don't have words to describe his wonderfull voice! He is the best
His voice is so good! Ramin makes me not want to listen to him because of the way his voice makes me feel but I love him so much!!
