Enjoyed the rescue. Like the joined two part line for the balanced steady pull. Never used it myself and often needed to see-saw very heavy loads to break mud or snow suction with a much too small wrecker with the rear wheels standing on chocks chained to the deck and the front tires floating/bouncing.

Looking at the dirt piled up and the angle its on It prob got close and he was told to stop but you can't really stop in a hurry 1 side started to go and it prob just slide off Only stopped cause the belly hit the road Also said the hydraulics steering failed so it might have just dived its self into the ditch
@@fowletm1992 I have 3 of these type of 13 axle self steer trailers and there is no possibility he was going fast enough to no stop. That turn would have been tight enough the trailer would have to be manually steered. Who ever was manual steering that steer trailer just F’ed up. So so lucky that Hat didn’t break off.

Manny years ago I worked at a shop that built towers. They are heavy beasts for sure...for the base section we'd put a shuttle lift(mobile Gantry Crane) at each end to move them out of the shop to the yard
I actually watched a similar recovery to this but it didn't turn out like this they lifted the side of the trailer to high and it rolled making an even more expensive mess. Hat's off to you and the team for making it look easy even though i know it's not

Have you considered putting regular oil under the tires when they are on the pavement to help them slide when your pulling sideways, seems it would cut down on the friction of rubber vs road
Seems like oil would leave a road hazard after the fact, interesting idea though. Maybe even loose sand and then use a blower to clean it up when you're done. Or soap and water, as was said before
How did the driver go so far without knowing the rear was in mud, any time I'm taking a tight turn I'm watching my mirror. I might understand had he been turning right but making a wide left he would have seen the rear axle instantly going over the pavment.

The permit is for daylight travel only. and because of the inability of the idiot driver and trailer operator to slow down and steer the trailer around the corner if needed they are out after dark ( they could possibly get charged with failing to adhere to the conditions of the permit) They will not be permitted to stay put as you may have noticed the were on wrong side of the road counter flowing. they will be escorted to nearest safe place to get off the road. IE; a rail siding, seed plant or elevator and yes maybe even a truck stop what ever is closest and large enough for them to get in and out safely.

I've been hauling shit like that for 29 years, I've picked up a thing or two. They went in that that long ways close to the edge of road because of speed and likely lack of maintenance (grease) those steerable dollies when they are in the float position if they are not taken care of will stick and do exactly what you do not want them too. Sometimes you can give it a little bit of a "whip" to break it free if you just made a corner and it sticks but that means you have to stop and add grease. And if your smart when you do your morning pretrip you grease the pivot points.
As someone who knows nothing heavy recovery can I ask could you not have taken the trailer load with the rotator, uncoupled the jeep/mule/dolly swung the trailer out and put it down on the highway then recovered the other piece then put it back together afterwards?
@@robertquast9684 the rotator is lifting the whole unit anyway so they can pull it sideways so uncoupling would reduce the weight would it not? Uncoupling the trailer? It isn't going anywhere as it it attached to the tractor unit and aren't the brakes on heavy haulage "on" by default and require air or manual wind off to release. The dolly/mule/bogey has its own power and probably isn't going anywhere given it is sitting in a huge rut but it could be tethered or chocked.

When you go back and forth you reduce the load on the winch line. You divide the resistance by the number of lines and you will get the load on the line. Example: 10000lb pull with the line going from the tow truck to the casualty and back to the truck and then to the casualty again gives you 3 lines to the load. So 10000 decided by 3 gives you 3334.333lbs of load on the winch line, so we always round up so line load is 3334lbs
Looks like the Totran truck is Texas based so maybe that tower base came through Corpus Christi, Texas, Rockport, Texas or possible Houston, Texas. Totran also works out of Canada. Some windmill parts come to the West coast out of Asia. As much of that equipment we buy it is a shame we no longer make it in the USA. Exceptional job y'all did using the equipment you have. Don't look to me like you need a super rotator with the skilled personnel you have.
I don't understand why there isn't a little seat and cab on the rear of these trailers, so a bloke can sit down, in the warm and dry, during the journey, and make sure that things like this don't happen in the first place. It's not as if the truck is doing 100mph down the road is it.! And, there's usually always another small 'spotting' vehicle behind the load, to keep the rear steer person safe from a shunt from the rear. So it's not a safety issue. I'm a bit out of my lane, but it appears to me that this trailer unit wasn't well maintained. I am always surprised how a company is willing to spend so much on recovery instead of maintenance.
Tk 28 is a Kenworth t880 with an 1150 rotator, tk 15 is a Kenworth T800 with a 35 ton boom, and tk 7 is an International 4700 with a 12 ton boom all the wreckers are from Miller Ind.
Great job not to roll a few tires of their rims. Would be interesting to know if there was any tire cord damage, and if any needed replacement. Guess the drivers back in a bob-tail, swiping floors.

Yeah just the Dewalt or Milwaukee portable lights that use their same lithium ion battery packs that they use in all of their cordless tools would have come in handy for the workers and for the videographer.
Suggestion... when the rig is moving really slowly, it's hard to see that movement when your camera is moving. Put the camera on a tripod, and you can just let it run, and speed it up in your video editor to show a time lapse (or use your camera's time lapse mode). The GoPro couldn't see well but that's a solvable problem... portable lights.

I'm guessing the the load weight exceeded that of the rotator, so they couldn't do a full-lift

Did it for many years I never had a oversized load go off the road js but that could have been mechanical error so I apologize to the pilot car

for such a recovery you need a 300 or 500 t-crane. Here in Europe nobody would use a rotator though they are very useful.

Put the camera on a tripod, and you can just let it run, and speed it up in your video editor to show a time lapse (or use your camera's time lapse mode). The GoPro couldn't see well but that's a solvable problem... portable lights.

Agreed. Also would get him out of the danger zone. Seems to be too close to wires while it's pulling. Very dangerous.
