    Growing up in an area where it's popular to allow a nickel to hold up a dime, I never saw one of these until they were older. Had the titan two catalog and looked at it so much that it eventually fell apart. Nothing bigger than a 6620 turbo ever hit our farm until the farm went up to rent, and I remember the depression era farmers around then (retiring at that time) marveling at anything that could move down the field with a 15 or 20 foot header.
    6620 turbo sat fairly often when the trucks were full. Some things never change.

    When I was in high school my parents had 3 of these 8820 turbos here in southeast Nebraska.
    We ran them all past 5000 hours, put alot of new parts in them every year, they are good combines. I spent alot of hours in one of those.

    @9:30 legend moment. When we bought the farm after immigrating an 86 8820 T2 came with the deal, we updated the header from 25ft to 30ft HoneyBee, handled it like a pro (except it liked to pick it's ass up at the headland) once my family sell out their shares of the farm ill be looking for that exact model for my cattle farm.

      The 8820 was a monster machine in its day. It’s one of the top 10 cool factor combines in my book. Probably number 1. I have experienced that ripping feeling in a 9610 running a 1293 corn head.

    We bought a good used 8820 Titan II (with big single front tires & not duals) & 925F head from a friend a few years back to replace a used L2 Gleaner. We used our R-52 in corn but ran both combines when doing beans. Now the R-52 gets used solely in corn (or beans if we ever get desperate lol) & the 8820 is solely used in beans. They both have been fitted with cameras & LED lights to improve them. Was just combining beans today in a muddy field with the 8820.

    I owned a 6620 side-hill yellow top to harvest my corn and soybeans. Your video brings back memories. Biggest weakness with my combine was the final drives. They went out more times than I care to remember, from things like drive chain breaks, to bull gear tooth failures, either could cause the case to break also, which caused an expensive fix. Not one of Deere's better design.

    Great video!! I miss seeing the yellow tops at work, though there are still some out there doing their thing. Hard to believe they debuted over 40 years ago. Speaking of said era, I was thinking it would be really neat if you could arrange things so a video could be made of the JD, IH & AC combines, from that same era ('77-'79) all going head-to-head in the same crop in the same field. See how much ground they can cover & what's getting thrown over the sieves. That would make for some awesome content. Especially with the knowledge everybody has on how these machines have performed throughout the years. I don't imagine it would be easy to arrange last minute, at the end of the season. Maybe next year?

    Wow! The price jumped from the 60s/70s era combine to the turbo yellow top combine was huge! Under $34,000 up to over $100,000! It sounds like the improvements made going to the turbo yellow top combines were the largest jump in improvement and I’m not sure that the improvements made in the titan to justified buying a new combine

    We run a 8820 still to this day. We run a jd643 corn head on it and 925 bean we run a couple hundred acre's of corn through it every year primarily high moisture corn because we are a dairy and we grind all of it for feed. Soybeans we store on farm and have them roasted for feed as well.. we farm in the northeast part of ohio valley. The ol 8820 may be old but she does a very good job for what we want it to do and are fairly easy to work on. Around use there are alot of 7720s still in the fields running and a few 6620s but I don't know of anyone else around running a 8820 but us.

    We are currently running an 82 6620 on 320 acres. It’s a very good machine. It has about 4700 hrs on it, but it’s in really good condition. Previous owners kept it well maintained and so do we. As long as someone keeps making parts for it we’ll keep running it . The machines that did the best job were the 4400/4420’s. You could get a really clean sample in corn and beans. You just couldn’t get the acres/hr out of them. If you had the time they were the machine to run

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  4 роки тому +2

      The newest ones are the best because they are automated to adjust to the crop as it gets heavier and lighter. These Titans were and are good but harvest tech gets better each generation.

    • @davidzeinstra5053
      @davidzeinstra5053 4 роки тому +4

      That’s a wide question. Will they both do a good job? Depends on Operator, Speed and Conditions. I know guys with older 2188’s that can pull off a sample so clean it drives you nuts, and I know the newest combines can do the same exact job, probably going faster, with the right guy and Field conditions.
      As for out the back, same applies. The advancements are more in speed and ease of use, letting less experienced operators doing better jobs than they could have without the tech and whatnot that is not in the older machines.

    • @bdnmb6822
      @bdnmb6822 4 роки тому

      From data I’ve seen from the canola council on their drop pan checks it indicates combines travelling at higher speed have the highest losses. Now that maybe doesn’t mean newer but remember rotor and cleaning area probably haven’t increased as much as horse power in later model combines. Grain loss always increases in tougher conditions and more hp means you can jam it through especially nowadays with a push button cylinder reverser instead of a long handled wrench 🤬. And for all the modernization of grain loss monitors they don’t mean dick if they aren’t calibrated. Some of the canola councils data shows massive losses ( several bu/acre) and operators had no idea. 🤷‍♂️
