- Here's an in-depth review on a 2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS sedan with a 198 hp 2.4L direct injected 4-cylinder engine. This vehicle comes equipped with the Popular Equipment Package and the optional auto-dimming rearview mirror. This vehicle is very competitive for the entry-level midsize sedan market, and it looks much better in person than in photos. Even with a newly redesigned Hyundai Sonata debuting for 2015. This car low wind noise, but apparent road noise emanating from the standard Kumho tires. The ride is firm, but absorbent and the sound system is very good for the entry-level Sonata. The vehicles controls are also easy to master once you learn what all of the buttons on the center console do. Fit and finish is on par for the class, but there is a limited amount of soft touch materials on the upper tier of the dashboard, the tops of the door panels, and on the armrests. Is that a backup camera?
I have one but the only thing I don’t like bout it are the small wheels/tires
most 4 door midsize cars have smaller 14 inch wheels. you can however go up to 16 inch.
Does this car have sport mode ?
No it does not. It has a eco and normal mode. Neither of these modes adjust the steering only how long the car will hold certain gears. In 2014 however they did add a steering mode to the car, it wouldn’t be until, the 2015 model year that the sonata started offering drive modes like sport.

Very quiet vehicle?? The road noise is absolutely outrageous.. No where near quiet..

A family friend has a 2013 with 55K he picked up at an “auction”, I can’t see the car in person so I’m looking for opinions. We’ve bought other cars from him so I’m not worried about getting a lemon but would like to know if it’s a good buy or not. Any pros/cons, good or bad stories? Engine trouble etc.. I should look out for? Thanks in advance!
@6atlantis I know I'm 7 months late lol, but I can tell you they have a few recalls. One is the engine is covered for free replacement if it fails due to metal shavings during assembly. I can also tell you the steering coupler gets obliviated and will need replaced. Its a 5 to 10 dollar part and looks harder than it is to replace. I can tell you that you should just drill out the brake rotor screws and just eliminate them you don't need them. I'll tell you that hyundai made the rear brake calipers a pita to remove because the rear sway bars go thru the calipers. For me it wasn't that bad but I just smh at things like this. I will also say change the oil between 4 and 5 thousand miles religiously because the gasoline direct injection is a dirty process and it shows in the oil. That being said the oil change process is one of the fastest and easiest ive ever done, with the exception of the oil filter if you don't use a filter that has 6 pointed male fitting at the end. Why stop now lol, ok the headlights we find are underpowered for a nice lit view, and are the most frustrating design for a retainer that I've ever ran across. Also had problem with factory taillight bulb socket failing. The serpentine belt is really tricky to replace also on this car. Save urself a huge headache and make sure you use an extension bar for pulleys to compress the tensioner pulley. Plugs are easy, as is coils. It may sound a little grim, but over all its a super nice car and is worth the resale purchase! My daughter loves her '13 gls and at 143,000mi. Her dad has it in like new condition.
