- Ottawa's O-Train South Extension introduces two exciting updates: the expansion of Line 2 to Limebank and the addition of the new Line 4, connecting South Keys to the Ottawa International Airport. Both lines will officially open for weekday service on January 6, 2025, at 6:00 a.m.
In this video, recorded during a media event, we showcase a ride on O-Train Lines 2 and 4, featuring the new Stadler FLIRT trainsets, the legacy Alstom Coradia LINT, and highlights of the station designs and features.

I know there has been so many negative reviews about Line 1 but honestly as a Gatineau resident using the Rapi-bus, I LOVE THE O-TRAIN! It's super clean, quick and safer than street level transit.
I totally agree!
I am retired now but used to take the bus from Kanata and catch the O-Train at Tunneys to Parliament Station. I loved using it and it always saved me time to and from work. I live out of town and had to drive to Park & Ride at Eagleson. I would have loved to have used it once the new line to Moodie Drive opens.
For people commuting along this line, it will be a great improvement when you consider the bad traffic jams up and down Albion Rd during rush hour. The Carleton U Students, finally have the new train back, and the connection to Line 1.
nice to have transit win, given all the negative news it receives.
Hopefully this will be a catalyst to create more positive headlines for the system.
I agree! I do have a feeling that most of the negative comments are from people who don't even use public transit.
They're painting the platforms blue with all that de-icer!
They should have put a heated sidewalk platform system like sidewalks in some Scandinavian countries...
They'd probably save a lot on vehicle and station maintenance if they didn't have so much salt destroying everything... it's corrosive.
The diesel line was already there. It took around the same amount of time to upgrade it as it took to construct the trans continental from scratch.
yeah thats because of the issues with Planning and Permitting which didnt exist in the 1880s
@ No….. I observed the work and it was pathetic. Preston station could have easily been built in 6 months, it took years. Why are you defending a long overdue project that is overpriced!
They had labour issues like the Ottawa Hydro workers strike which was part of the reason why it got delayed by a year
Finally be nice to have a reliable line working.
But it's kinda bad that a visitor with luggage has to take three trains and transfers with luggage to get downtown from the airport, when it used to be one bus on the Transitway
Excellent planning, no luggage storage areas for passengers...
Thank you
I'm pleased Ottawa is building a rail network. But honestly as someone who's lived in Montreal and Toronto I find Ottawa's system quality poor.
These look very good, it looks very similar to a German regional train could easily see these used more accross the country
They are for sure great trains. Unfortunately, they would require a variety of modifications to operate on mainline tracks without rule changes, particularly for safety in the event of a collision with freight trains. Obviously we are not legal experts on railway regulations in Canada, but we wouldn't say no to seeing more of them! -David
That's..... a lot of salt lol
They should have put a heated sidewalk platform system like in some Scandinavian countries.....
I’d be more likely to wipe out on that much salt than on ice. ‘Like walking on ball bearings. Looking forward to trying out the new trains though. Those seats look pretty narrow.
As long as it doesn't rain or snow or get cold or hot in Ottawa we should be sll set for a fully operational line.
Considering that this line operated without major issue since 2001-2020 and is based on the same trains and systems, no reason to expect any different now. It is vastly different from Line 1
2024 Canadian Transit coast to coast year in review video coming soon? 👀🚝🚇🚈🚋
David is working on it! Unfortunately, it will release in early 2025, but it's in the works!
@@RailFansCanada Toronto, Vancouver and Singapore will have their own "Mount Pleasant Station". Do you plan to visit all of them?
Wow that's a tonne of deicer they've used 😢
They should have put a heated sidewalk platform system like in some Scandinavian countries....
@al8775 That or covered/enclosed stations
🚈👍
Easy on the de-icing salt, O Transit!
That's the responsibility of TNext and whoever they hired to keep the stations on LIne 2 and 4 clean and free of snow and ice. I looked up the product its called IsoGlaze manufactured by Affluteq of Glasgow,Scotland. Apparently this anti/de-icer is tailored for use on railroads and at airports where you can't use normal rocksalt. The problem is that the workers put so much of it down in hope of not having to shovel a lot of snow from what I'm assuming.
