The sincerity of the acting is positively heartwarming.
It’s so bad.
Early appearance of Dennis Weaver.
The first detective on the scene played the guy accused of killing his wife in the first season episode, The Big Casing. If you haven't seen The Big Casing, you have a treat in store. Also, it's amazing how exciting a radio report of the chase of the bad guy is at the end of this episode and Frank's notations on the street map heighten the suspense. For realism and suspense, Dragnet has no equal. Thanks Film Detective for having such good taste.
Smith got a lot more out of high school Spanish than I did.
Same here with French. I remember most of the profanity, and how to ask where the library is.
Hah. Right!? All I remember from high school Spanish is how to read Spanish. Not that I remember the language. I know some words from hispanic friends over the years, but my big take away from HS Spanish is pronunciation for reading it. 😊
@@tacoheadmakenzie9311 i know what you mean. For me it's nouns. Fish, library, museum, school, bread and cheese. HA! It's a wonder i remember that much. The teacher and I couldn't stand each. I never had a problem w any teaching in my life except her. What a witch!
Some people do have an ability to pick up languages
Season before he couldn't speak a word
Jack Webb was a lover of jazz...makes sense it wasn't a swing tune on the jukebox but a jazz tune. Damn those Fatima and Chesterfields he smoked to satisfy the sponsors.
I guess he had a couple of albums too.
@@jefftuttrup2596 Reportedly, more than 6,000 at his death
@@davidwolfhudson I was talking about the ones he performed/ produced on.
Havin a hard time tryin to find it too
The song on the juke box by Art Hamilton Orchestra is the same man who wrote three songs for Webbs movie pete Kelly’s blues.
This country needs more verdicts like this with no appeals.
Appeals are a Constitutional Right
I'm not a smoker, but I'm dying for cigarette now 🤣
"Me a cigarette too!"
Good to see Chester found gainful employment after he got the hell out of Dodge.
Excellent episode: at first, they didn't get the right man, shows that cops aren't always right; Friday shows some compassion when dealing with the crying widow; they break out in sweat was the chase unfolds.
Great episode .liked it very much .thanks for posting
Very impressive Frank! It sounds like the pace is good and grammar is correct. I took five years of high school/college French and can't speak that fluently or understand to explain the conversation.
Dennis Weaver (8:16) before he became famous.
Marshal Sam McCloud. He was in the 1954 theatrical film Dragnet. He was captain Lohrman of homicide.
Amazed they didn’t dust the jukebox buttons for prints.
Hi Everyone, Love these old shows of Dragnet. Tryed too never miss this TV show. I am 78 years old. This was the good ol' days. Thank you for sharing. God Bless.
I do too I’m also 78 years old, I remember watching it originally on tv.
This was the golden age for TV, by the eighties it was pretty much done. There were a few like the later Columbo's and a couple others, but nothing like the 50's through 70's.
I like drainet it’s great sho
Dennis Weaver as the ballistics expert.
Thanks for the i.d. I never would have noticed but since you noted it, I thought yep that's McLeod
Chester😃
@@teriannebeauchamp254 I noticed him immediately. His voice sounds the same with the same accept as when he did McLeod. When I heard his voice I looked closer. he was young in 1954
They should have cast Chuck Connors!!
Next roll Chester Goode on Gunsmoke with Mister Dillon.
Back in the day when the time between conviction and execution was measured in months, not decades.
wow...Friday smiled !!
Was that Dennis Weaver as the bullet lab man?
Sure was👍
He looked good at 30.

@17:20 - Another rare case of an actual "dragnet" operation on dragnet.

This was high-tech at the time. I imagine the audience was impressed.
We were..
I still am impressed all these years later. Jack Webb was a genius at this. Because of Jack Webb, we have Law and Order SVU, and all the other detective series now.

One of the first shows I've seen Dennis Weaver in.
Excellent Spanish by co star
“CHESTER🤗” long time no see😂
Chester, hell. He's McCloud!
@@davidvincent6149 Not on Gun Smoke...and no limp.
In so many of these, Webb starts with: "it was cold in Los Angeles". Yet I don't remember him wearing so much as a trenchcoat. Ever. "Cold" meant low 60s.
If they are going to sweat that much over a chase, the station should be air conditioned. :) I have to say, they got as much drama out of drawing on a map as humanly possible.
Joe Remus They had also put in several months tracking the guy down and were personally involved in identifying him. They wanted to see the guy taken down.
Great ending.
He's not going that fast. A 1950 Ford only had about 95 HP! LOL!!
What about The Big Fart? Jack Webb really had a very creative and original mind for coming up with titles to each episode.
He would be investigating Wayne Newton. "What a gas!"
in chicago they wouldn't be allowed to cha
se a murder suspect
Ya gotta love the execution by lethal gas of the murderer. Simpler, safer and more righteous days. Great tension as the guys wait for the unit to report back in.
I would be pretty choked if someone drew all over my map like that.
Every comment section on Dragnet videos: Oh my Godzess Reeeeeeeeeeee he's smoking a CIGARETTE!
The juke box such a great mechanical machine.
Great
Is that Lab guy Dennis Weaver?
Yes, Mister Dillon.
Jack was a jazz guy. You almost thought the jukebox was going to play "Cry Me A River," didn't you?
He was already divorced from Julie London by then. He did stay friendly with her. This would have a good promo for her song though.
The Funny tune is by the same composer, Art Hamilton (Stern), and also came from Pete Kelly’s Blues
Did the Stones get to meet Bobby Troup? Did he visit while they were in the studio in L.A.?
Ever see Pete Kelly's Blues (Jack Webb, Janet Leigh, Edmond O'Brien, Martin Miller, Lee Marvin, Andy Devine, and Peggy Lee)? Webb used that name for a detective radio show - there really was a jazz band called Pete Kelly's Band.
High School Spanish From The 1930's And 1940's !! Try Taking A GRAMMER School Exam From The 1700's and 1800's and early 1900's ; You Will Be AMAZED ; I WAS EMBARRASSED When I DID IT !!! I FAILED , Unable To Answer MOST OF THE QUESTIONS !!!
Skipper had his flunkie walk over and turn up the radio volume for him lol Skip was standing right frigging there. Wtf?
The never have a lawyer present during questing.
Frank habla muy bien pro un persona que solamente estudiado ene el collegio.
Si Frank habla muy bueno.
No finger print from the juke box?
At about 20:24, during the pursuit did anyone notice they sent unit 1-A-1-2 to block 3rd St. and Alvarado? This was before they started using the phonetic names for the call signs of the units. This was 1954. Now why would Dragnet send out 1-ADAM-12???? ;-)
Actually, Webb intentionally threw in a number of procedural and pronunciation inaccuracies in his shows, to show up fakers. Not using phonetics was a common one, another using "White male American" for "WMA" (White male adult).
I think the CSI guy is 'Chester' from Gunsmoke.
I didn’t know Chester was this smart he was the deputy on gun smoke
Picked the wrong day to sneak across the border
How dramatic drawing on the map.
Ole Dennis Weaver aka “Chester”
It was toosdee and Joe Frydee😂😂
Dennis Weaver!
Juan looks familiar, Dennis Weaver is the ballistic guy
Dennis Weaver with no accent :)
Don't they usually take the gun from the suspect before they bring him to the police station?
Smithy should've worked at the UN
What strikes me about the Dragnet series is that must have been easy to produce. Much of the series is narration and stock footage. The scenes involving actors are simple. Nothing fancy.
No fingerprint from the jukebox?
I miss the old days when cops could use bennies to work 24/7.
"Radio gram" l honestly don't know exactly what that was.
Excelente el castellano de Frank. El acento, horrible, pero la gramática casi perfecta.
Assuming Smith aced high school spanish...
That's what I thought!
Friday and Smith really got around, one week they were working burglary, then next week homicide, then the following week juvenile and on and on , never working two department on consecutive weeks.
Standing around sweating! Can't even begin to imagine ANYONE on the LA Police force even paying attention let alone sweating! LOL Now the killer would have had EVERY advocate working for his release let alone putting him to death!
over the top
Okay but, now that they have the guys name, how does a guy sit at a bar for 3 hours and not leave prints on the bar that weren't wiped off. They did the dishes before he left. The glass possibly but the bar right in front of him completely? He would not just sit there
Rob zombie reference
What?
Black cat on right wrist
I watched Dragnet and The Naked City as a kid. I thought I'd enjoy going back to watch again. Were they bad, or what? The acting was so stereotyped and nobody was more wooden than Jack Webb. It's almost fun watching just to realize what we, apparently, enjoyed back then.
The sweating was _way_ overdone.
Why didn't they check the fingerprints on the dimes in the jukebox? Why didn't they tell all bar owners to notify police when any loner repeatedly played that particular song? C'mon Joe and Frank, basic stuff here.
Ads ruin the show.
I guess you just slide the red ball to the end and slide it back and … no Commercials . It worked on the last one I watched . 👍🏼Circumvent the situation 😎
High school Spanish? Don't think so.
"¡Dispénsame, señor..." Thank God I'm Argentinian-American and don't speak that crapola(like Archie Bunker used to say) the Mexicans pass off for Spanish! 🙄😒
Waiting for 'the big waste of time' episode. But you would think they would have asked for a description of the perps first if she was that badly hurt.
Idiot trashed a perfectly good map with a grease pencil for what reason?
Why couldn’t they get a finger print off the joke box? Side kick had pretty good Spanish for just HS level and being out of school for some time. Haha. And how come they were sweating so listening to the broadcast? It not like they were doing anything? Haha
I didn't know that you had to be "doing something " in order to sweat. Do you think that they should have been working out?
Back in the day you couldn't get a fingerprint off of a plastic surface
Because they were very concerned for fellow officers that's why they were perspiring ,why do you think??!!!!
Haha, at least bring a Hispanic cop in to interpret instead of the Spanish speaking high school detective joke. He speaks and understands Spanish like he’s a grad student. 😂
it was the Texan Ben Romero (played by Barton Yarborough) playing this the first time they did this script. slightly more plausible
