I'm a food courier and was stumped about how to get my GPS to stop flaking out in the downtown area even installing a gps signal repeater antenna BUT now I am getting this because even the most expensive cell phones are useless and I use an HTC-10. This will save my sanity! Thanks for the demo!
I am considering buying a Garmin 2599 LMTHD and it has more features than my present GPS. Thank you for your well made & helpful videos about this product!
I just picked up mine a few weeks ago, love it. It boots up instantly, you don't have to wait around for 10 minutes looking for satellites, many times its about 10-20 seconds to find satellites, many times its instantly.
The other day however, I had it search for a subway restaurant in which I was in the parking lot of. It wanted to send me over a mile to a different location. I just updated the maps to it.... Just wondering how often are these things actually updated? This isn't a new location either....
@@Wanderer001_Reviews It's all good. It is almost like Cortana on my laptop. She responds to questions heard over the audio on the TV. Technology.... :-)
I was impressed it was that sensitive! I changed it to computer too not because I like Star Trek but because I kept forgetting the phrase! Nice tutorials. I hope you monetized this and these are your commercials because I've been letting the ads run so you get compensated!
Even if you get the trigger word to 100% the rest of the commands you can changes are a hit or miss mix sadly. With triggers happening more times then not.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews That sounds honest. I counted 8 fails in 1.5 mins starting @ about 2:25 in this video. And that's with loud clear native English input from you. Hopefully Garmin has improved things a lot over the years, but you make a good point here that the accurate drops off a LOT on these older units as you go from the simple instructions on the screen to names or addresses that it has to match against a huge database. That accuracy drop off is probably true of all voice recognition systems and always will be, at least in relative terms. On the other, I've seen the latest Garmin GPSs handle spoken addresses pretty well when spoken with perfect technique, so maybe we are finally there.
@@carlw6247 I actually am testing out my first new Garmin GPS in about 7 years. So far the voice commands have been pretty spot on. There have been some changes to the action that happens with the command which is taking some time to get used to but other then that it has been pretty good. Garmin removed a lot of the customization there GPS had in favor of standardization but that means more accurate triggers.
Hello! I just got mine today and was poking around... Lux 51 North America LMT-S.... is there a way to change the prompt away from "Voice command"? I must be blind. Thank you! :-) I love your videos on the other topics. I'd like to change it to something like "Navigation" or "Computer" or "Garmin" etc.
This will start the video from where I show you how to change the voice command phrase to something else. I like to use "computer" myself. (ua-cam.com/video/FlM6RMwJHv8/v-deo.htmlm45s)
Thanks. Wow, it would have made more sense to have it under settings instead of apps. No wonder I didn't find it. Thanks again! :-) Now I have one email in to tech support for some software app issues, and we should be good to go. :-)
After updating, i say voice command, find a place, it tells me, this feature is not available in American English. What can i do to get it back to normal.
i have an old nuvi about the size of a deck of card. have a Magellan hate it...how do i transfer the stored address book?. also ..many times on a search for a gas station it says .2 miles and 3 miles later Im there, so to find the real distance I 'd go to the dashboard screen and see the real distance. Does this one do the same thing?
I have not found that to be the case. If it says 2 miles it means 2 miles. As for transferring your stored address book from your Magellan to a Garmin, I myself have never had to do this. I have always had and used Garmin GPS. However, I asked around as well as looked it up and found a program that should convert them. I have not used it so I can not say for sure but, it can be a starting point. www.gpsbabel.org/index.html
you mis understood, I have both a Nuvi 350 and a Magellan. The Magellan I think has poor visuals, I prefer the thick white arrow Garmin uses, Im also colorblind and can't distinguish the red/orange/green lines, but the Garmin is distinguishable even for the colorblind. I found a youtube Video for transferring my Nuvi 350 favorites to the New 2599, Love the new one, boots up 10 times faster. On the Nuvi 350.... when you go to lets say find nearest gas station and you get several choices. It shows milage and compass direction.Lets say it indicates .3m, if you set your odometer it may end up being 1.8m. The way I got around this was to have the screen do the dashboard screen, This would show it was much further away. I had one where it was off by about 4m.
If I understand you correctly what might be happening is that you are getting the millage for the most direct path to lets say the gas station. However, depending on if you have selected eco route, or fastest time this could change the actual millage to the gas station. Does that sound correct?
yes, something along those lines, The way I thought about how these could be so different is MAYBE, the first one that shows distance and general direction is (the short distance) "by way that the crow flys" as they say...
I was expecting a better voice recognition. In the beginning I was close to throwing it out the window. Then it occurred to me being from New England we replace R with A. Also we combine words I'm going too is pronounced gonna go. And many more. You would think people from other countries or lisp must really get frustrated. Other than that it is pretty good when I use manual inputs.
Have you experienced newer models? Maybe the feature has been improved? Maybe you get what you pay for, and have to go with a high end GPS to get the best performance.
As you can see, Garmin’s voice command sucks, BIG TIME! I got one yesterday, and are returning it tomorrow. I speak with an accent, so I though it was me. But Google for example understands me almost 100% of the time.
Well spoken, clear and easy to understand. A great relief to hear someone giving guidance who doesnttalktoofast.
+J. Michael Robertson Happy to help.

My understanding is you can get up to 4 map and POI updates in a year.
I was about to update my Garmin GPS while watching this. You said "Voice Command" and it activated my GPS!
Sorry about that. I had my wife do it over a Bluetooth call before to mess with me.

I just bought mine, and i understood everything you said, thank you very much, now i will go modify my new nuvi, thanks
I'm following this tutorial with the GPS in my hand and every time you say voice command you triggered my GPS!
+DoingIT Local sorry about that. At least you know it works.

+DoingIT Local I did, so I do get a small cut of the ads. Thank you.
Same here.......lol great tutorial. thanks for sharing Wanderer001
What are better names for "Voice Command" to get it to 100%? Instead of seventy-something percent?

Hi. 001. Does an update allow using post(Zip) code usage?
Thanks. Steve.
Not as of yet.
Thanks 001. That is a shame as it might be more accurate than the current setup!!

Can you add POI's manually? I can do this with my TomTom.
I have a Garmin but dusint have voice camand .
very useful demo thanks
Why do you always change the voice commands trigger phrase into "COMPUTER"
It is a reference to Star Trek.
After updating, i say voice command, find a place, it tells me, this feature is not available in American English. What can i do to get it back to normal.
thindimeten There should have been an update to fix this within the last few days.
Thank you
i have the same problem with italian
what is the difference between this model and the 2598?
TheBigb1973 The 2598 does not have HD traffic, the 2599 does.
I am thinking of buying the 2699lmthd, Bottom line would you buy it again ?
+buzzsah Yes, and the bigger screen would be nice extra.
Thanks, I ordered the 2699 and should have it Monday. Thanks for a great info review.

What is voice control

saying ok google triggers my phone do i need a new one if i dont want a phone that triggers
+NytOnPeliAika It is just a setting under your phone options. It can be turned off.
Wanderer001 i dont think you got the joke
+NytOnPeliAika It seems I did not. I get all types of people asking questions all with different skills levels. It's hard to say some times.
Wanderer001 i meant like how people get triggered my phone gets triggered that way when i say "ok google"
🤔 maybe I'll leave the voice command alone. It's way worse than Siri
I guess you wouldn't want to buy it for it's voice command features
It is nice that they are there but not great in use. Have to repeat myself a lot.
Have you experienced newer models? Maybe the feature has been improved? Maybe you get what you pay for, and have to go with a high end GPS to get the best performance.
The newest one I have is still a few years old at this point. (Garmin nuviCam LMTHD). Still not as responsive as I would like.
Thanks
