guys this is a stocked pond. its not hard to catch bass in a stocked pond, im not saying it isnt good for this test but to feel bad because you cant catch bass when youre wacthing a guy catch some of the dumbest fish possible. i grew up with ponds all around me, ive walked around putting cigarette butts on hooks and catching bass. thats how dumb pond bass are. i put a dumb rubber minnow on with no action and caught a 23 in largemouth. ive also caught over 20" smallmouths in the river that arent that dumb. if youre having trouble and just want to catch bass. private pond, snelled hook, night crawler, or grasshopper. thats the combo.

Alex C Yeah, but remember they do become very territorial during planting and germination season. I’ve heard of the careless fisherman trying to go against the grain, only to fall victim to a lumbering block of wood.

Most honest fisherman ever. I see this mentality in fly fishing quite a bit. Insanely simple flies catch fish all day long but so many spend ages on fancy more realistic flies (including myself sometimes).
And also with the turd lure idea, I once made a fly with a blob of gorilla glue on a small hook colored with a sharpie just to see if panfish would hit it, and they totally did. I called it a turd fly. It was about the size of a rabbit turd.

My father and I used to make bass lures from old broomsticks or mop handles ,anything shaped like a dowel. They worked great for striped bass and cost almost nothing.

Im in disbelief.... I'm just gonna stop waisting my money on special lures and go cut a bunch of branches and throw some hooks on them. This is freaking hilarious!
I have carved lures from pinebark for decades (grandfater taught me), just some shot for weight a handfull of hooks and some wire for harness and you are set.
sometimes I even melt pine sap for glue, if you go that route one needs a coke can and minimal fire to melt the sap (you can use wire to cut slot by friction), plier to cut and bend the wire and a pocketknife (even my 30year old leatherman more or less cover all above

A couple weeks ago I was senko fishing wacky rigged. Got snagged in some weeds, and was reeling it in quickly so I could remove the weeds. Hadn't had a bite all day, but when I did that two 4 pounders started following my lure and one ate it. It was cool to see right next to my dock in the crystal clear water. Funniest thing was that the bass wouldn't go after my tactical finesse setup but they would chase nothing more than a clump of weeds

As someone who have sold fishing equipment for the past eight years, this bait is true to my thoughts of the sport that is fishing. Fish really do not care if it looks, smells, tastes, sounds or moves like a fish/bait. They will bite anything that moves and fits in their mouth. All you need is to have the bait come infront of them.

nortern pike is another candidate, they hit anything that moves and smaller than them. I have caught them on fishingfloats, banana peel, strips of plastic bag, just a tangle on the line (no hook pike just refused to open mouth so I was able to land it)

Predatory fish, not bait fish. If you can legally use them as bait, and it’s sensible to do so, they don’t count as a true predatory fish. I’m talking about the species that really can be a threat to other fully grown fish. Pike are probably up there with bass but im sticking with bass just because they are much more popular and wide spread. Lol
