So happy I found you!! Not a lot of homesteading sheep content out there!

Hi Monika! I've really enjoyed diving into the regenerative farming world. I also recently sold my company AccessAlly, so farming and taking care of my young kids is my main gig now too. :)

Can you please share the grain feeding rations and what you increase it to during all stages of pregnancy and then how much per sheep during lactation? And how much when not pregnant. New to sheep farming and really had to find info. Thank you

I highly recommend joining this sheep farming Facebook group: facebook.com/groups/283875238439778
You'll find answers to these questions, and most importantly get feedback from different people because each person does things a little differently.
For example, when I got started I was told to feed corn - but that didn't end up working for us, so we switched to another grain mix that was locally available and specifically for dairy animals (likely mixed for cows).
In terms of how much we give, we keep it steady year-round and then increase during lactation. I don't weigh how much we give, but I will try to record it to share.🌿🌿🌿

Interesting about the pee, very cool the scent is different.

I know - it's so interesting to think about how rams can detect a difference like that!

Hi-help! My ewe, who was confirmed to have twins in her, dropped one of the lambs about a couple hours ago. She cleaned up the lamb, but she won't let him nurse. Is that cuz she wants to wait until the other one drops? How long can he wait to be able to feed?

I'm so sorry I didn't see this quickly enough! I hope you got things sorted with your ewe. In general, I like to see the lamb try to nurse as soon as possible, and if it's not happening I will hold them up and/or hold the ewe until they get a few good gulps in.
It sounds to me like maybe she was having issues with getting the second lamb out. I hope it went smoothly!

@@waykeeperfarmandnerdery thank you; turns out there wasn't another lamb in there, and the one that came out was deformed-that was why he couldn't nurse off her.

@@jeansroses7249 Glad to hear you figured out what was wrong, but sorry to hear the little one was deformed!

Do you separate your pregnant ewes from the rest of the flock or do you keep them all together?

    • @waykeeperfarmandnerdery

Last year we kept everyone together and didn't have any issues. This year we are separating because we have 1 ewe we didn't want to breed... I'll report back if we were successful or not on that front since there were a few fence break-outs! 😜😂
