    Dude I've been riding for over 30 years. I would never have the balls to do this. Seems like your too close and you can't see well enough in front of the truck. If he slams his brakes its a bad outcome for you. At 2:02 your way too close. No way your avoiding that if he slams his brakes on. Not at that speed. Be careful man

    • @2far2drive

      My thought is that a truck with a normal bumper, it would be contact at a few MPH difference. Lucas, like myself, rides disc and I can easily out brake a large truck. There isnt a danger of going under or anything like that. As for not being able to see, you have to trust that the driver doesnt want to hit shit either, which I why I hang behind the tires as it is an even lower chance that they would willingly run stuff over vs put unseen debris through the middle. You should try it... got my first 40mph for over a mile the other day, huge rush!

      @@2far2drive Haha, you are funny. If you are directly behind and he slams the brake you already crash into it before your brain can tell your hand to brake. At 50mph you travel nearly 30 meters per second. Even with a 0.5 second reaction time you would slam into it :D

      @Wardawg- 4 роки тому +2

      @@Freddy3792 just because your reaction is slow doesn't mean everyones is. With disc brakes you can stop with the best cars. A truck isn't going to be able to stop on a dime due to it's weight. A bicycle can

    • @Freddy3792
      @Freddy3792 4 роки тому +8

      @@Wardawg- A bicycle can't stop instantly at 50mph. As I mentioned the problem is reaction time. Even if you have the best reaction time a human can have you will crash into the truck in case he does a full emergency brake. That's physics no matter which brakes you have. Is it likely a truck will do that? No, but if he does you're fucked, no matter your brakes or reaction time :D

    • @2far2drive
      @2far2drive 4 роки тому

      @@Freddy3792 Im with you on the math but I still believe that depending on your location and bumper style, you wont go under, aka no real danger of being run over by a heavy vehicle. Since you are capable of handling the math, now you can see what I was suggesting, the actual speed you would make contact at should be very low thus further reducing the chance of injury from impact. The danger comes from you making contact with the vehicle and then wiping out on the road in less than ideal clothing. See Lucas's reply to my comment, he mentions he has hit the back of trucks plenty of times.

    Caught my first high speed, pure draft the other day, thanks to your inspiration. dump truck, slow roll and the next thing I know, Im being pulled along at 41mph with very little effort, 100w maybe. Held that for about a minute before I decided not to let my luck run out and jumped out. Most fun in the world! My question is, do you agree with my thinking that if you are drafting that close and you do make contact with the vehicle, the crash seriousness should be the result of falling, not impact? I see it as I would hit the back of the dump truck at just a few mph speed difference with little harm. Its contacting the road at 40mph that is going to suck but is much less dangerous.

    • @lucasbrunelle
      @lucasbrunelle  4 роки тому +12

      Congrats man 40+MPH hellz yeah. Yes it's the fall on the road that would be serious which is why I always have my hands on my brakes with no slack in the brakes in case in need to slow quickly. I've plenty of times hit the back of a truck

    • @lucasbrunelle

      Yes I do, it's a straight smooth road but a safer position than I held is to ride behind the wheels of the truck, it's not as aerodynamic but the truck will steer to avoid such hazards or you'll know when the truck hits said hazards

  • @RabidMortal1
    @RabidMortal1 3 роки тому

    Is it safer to draft behind the wheels or in-between the wheels? LB seems to prefer between but that area seems like it would have more potential for harbouring large debris (assuming the truck driver would try to avoid running over such stuff with his tires)

    • @lucasbrunelle
      @lucasbrunelle  3 роки тому +1

Whatever u say ,it is dangerous for many reasons. Doing this ,u make cyclist be less respected on the roads.u give the message that we take roads for a game.
