Abandoned Cabin in the Middle of Nowhere

  • Now used by campers and backpackers, this once beautiful homestead has been adopted by volunteers who help maintain the structures. If one finds themselves stranded for any time, life-saving water and non-perishable foods can be found in the cupboards.
These “volunteer” cabins are not only a part of history; they can save lives. It is imperative that we keep the structures safe from vandals.
Anyone can stay in these cabins. Fly the flag to let others know they are occupied (remember to take it down when leaving). Leave the cabins cleaner than you found them, and restock the food whenever possible.

Haven’t been to that one in a while, the last few times I’ve been out there, someone was already there. I did spend a rainy weekend in February a few years ago at the stone cabin down the road. Good times!

This was fantastic, being able to get inside this cabin and to show the lives that the people led in the past and particularly the miners who had the drive to give up their home comforts so that they were able to find these resources that society required. Thank you for bringing this to the people and for recording this for posterity, it is much appreciated.

You are more than welcome John. Glad you enjoyed it. It always amazes us when we find these cabins in the middle of nowhere. Wondering what the peoples lives were like and their determination to make a home and a living.

Yep , BTDT ! Back in the early 1970's , I'd spend my Summers ( June , July Aug. , & Sept. ) exploring around the Death Valley area ; either going to , or coming from my Mining Claim . I drove a fully equipped 1967 Toyota Landcruiser FJ-40 Hardtop 4x4 and towed a Teardrop Trailer . I carried enough supplies that I could stay out in the field for a full month before needing to resupply . Besides being a Miner , I was a fully Certified Firefighter ( Structural & Wildland ) // Emergency Medical Technician ( Charter Member of The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians ) // and a Search & Rescue Technician ( One of the Founding Fathers of a Federal Agency Search & Rescue Organization ) ; and I carried all of my equipment with me . I also had onboard Emergency Communications equipment . --- So I was more than prepared for Death Valley in the Summer . < Doc > .

Absolutely a great explore! Looked like it might have been on the "cool" side why'll you were there. Often seen but never understood: Horse shoes. If you point the "toes" up, that means you're sharing your luck. If you had any to begin with. If you point them down, then that meant you were a greedy person, cause you didn't want to share. Which if i believed in luck, i'd have to fair on the greedy side. Heck yea! Yee-Haa!! Course you could have just got mixed up and couldn't remember. Huh.....? What was i talking about? Next time i'll try to remember.......Stay cool.
