Rugby Coaching Ideas: Double Blocker Play From Lineout

I like the variation of roles in this example. Traditionally the ‘short ball’ option is a forward with the back option being the playmaker. This happens on the first play but roles are switched on the 2nd blocker play.

Quick ball off the top of LO and a wide pass from #9 to get into midfield.
1st Blocker Play: Quickly hits the back option to move the ball wider once again.
2nd Blocker play: Watch the very late angle change of the ‘short ball’ option. This hides the back option which makes it very difficult to read as the defender.
A small gap opens and back option takes the space. Great follow up running from the support runner to be engaged on the line break to finish the play.
