PLEAS use control group! it allows you to fire three weapons at once! To activate, either drage the weapons to each other, or hit control and a number key to group. Once grouped, hit the number to use all three at once, and E to auto fire all.
He could have moved the cannon to the top of the ship and shot his batteries. That would do a lot of damage and blow up his batteries and top core reactor.
