Your Medi-Cal Was Cancelled! Now What?

Hi Kevin! I anticipate becoming ineligible for Medi Cal because of my income next month. I plan to report it as it comes but I'm worried about having a gap in insurance when Medi Cal ends. Is there a grace period while you sign up for Covered California? Does your plan through Covered California start immediately once paid or on the first of the proceeding month? Thank you!

There should be no gap. You will be notified 2 - 4 weeks before your Medi-Cal terminates. You can enroll in a Covered California plan while Medi-Cal is active for the month, but will cease at the end of the month. CC plans start on the 1st of the month.
Ex: You are notified in early February that Medi-Cal will terminate February 28. You can enroll in a CC after you learn Medi-Cal will terminate. Maybe you enroll on February 20th. You pay your first month’s CC health plan premium when you enroll. The CC health plan will begin March 1, right after Medi-Cal terminates.
