I know that!If that happen you should response with "日本語をちょっと話せます" (Nihongo o chotto hanasemasu) "I speak a litttle bit japanese". But in that case it means "I have no idea what are you talking about" and they will try to answer in english. ^^
I have this experience in many languages. I learn enough to ask a question but can barely understand the answer. It takes me a long time to understand the spoken word.
Just returned today from 2 weeks in Japan having used all your phrases. Feeling very appreciative of the Phrases you offered and great way of teaching them. Many, many thanks!!
While the words are helpful, the comments in between proved more valuable. The whole thing about the Japanese not saying "no" directly, but hesitating.... VERY, VERY helpful. When they hesitate, you think that there is just a lack of adequate communication and keep trying, to everyone's frustration!
Raigan The first person in this exchange, Hope Franklin, said she loved the kid in the background of this video. I said the kid is an attention seeker, and I think the presenter should have given that rude kid the attention of a good sidekick to the face for pulling the focus off the lesson.
Useful for beginners. I REALLY appreciate that he spoke the phrase slower and annunciated well. Beginners are trying to pick up sounds they have never heard. They are watching your mouth to see how thats done. So many vids that dont do that. Some sound may be CH or TS. I need to see what your tongue is doing. And the cultural explanation is extremely helpful. Like explaining why my sister in law does not say No.
This is super helpful because you explain more real life scenarios rather than text book like definitions or something youd learn in a course etc. This is awesome make more vids on Japanese phrases :)
Ko n ni chi wa Hi Ge n ki de au ka How are you? Are you healthy? Mach Kobayashi, Nihong hanashi - Masen. I don't speak Japanese. However, I just wanted to say that the child that walked up behind you is... Absolutely... BEAUTIFUL!. Thanks for helping me learn Japanese.
This was an amazing video! Like other people have expressed, it was the advise in-between the words that were very helpful and the difference! And the fact that you repeated the phrases and kept them up on screen. Excellent video!
This was VERY helpful. I knew most of the phrases already, which is good.. but I had no idea that they don't tip or walk around eating and such. Lol if you can do a video showing how to order food that is not seafood, that would be great. Thanks so much for this 🥰
Lol love that in families children are universal. And unsubtle. Your baby just "happens" to be all over the background while you're filming, to the point where you're just like...do you *want* to be in it?? I'm pretty sure any other time that piano is unoccupied 🤣🤣
Thank you! Please make more videos like this. Some answers in Japanese would be helpful too! I've learned how to ask some questions but then I'm lost when they answer. Lol
your English is nice, im mexican living in Australia and here is full by japanese i hope get a chance to still learning fing some south american and learn spanish if you want could be possible ... Arigato
Hi Mr Kobayashi!! Thanks so much for the video, very helpful, I'll be going on a trip to Japan in a few months and I really appreciate your Useful Japanese Phrases
It would mean a lot to me and maybe some students here if you upload Japanese lessons every now and then. I have a Japanese class this year and I’m having a hard time studying it 🥺 thanks so much for this video tho! Lots of love from Philippines 🇵🇭
Very good video mate! Also very funny at times haha. I've also heard ''Arigatou gozai-masu'' and I wonder what difference this makes between ''Arigatou gozai-mashita''. Do you know by any chance? 😊
Great video! I just got back from Japan and your tips are excellent! I had a great time! I’m currently focusing on Mandarin, but am starting to work in a little Japanese after my trip. I picked up a few things while I was there.
isn't this "chotto" also a way to tell someone to wait? I hear this and "chotto matte" (don't know how to write that :'D) pretty often in anime and it's always said when someone should wait for something or someone

Love the kid in back ground!!!
Can’t stand attn-seeking behavior!
Dizzy Derwish ?
Raigan Are you seeking my attn?
Dizzy Derwish no I’m seeking an answer for this question
: what does attention have to do with the kid?
Raigan The first person in this exchange, Hope Franklin, said she loved the kid in the background of this video.
I said the kid is an attention seeker, and I think the presenter should have given that rude kid the attention of a good sidekick to the face for pulling the focus off the lesson.
Thank you for the going the extra mile explaining the phrases!
Can this person be our designated Japanese teacher! His enthusiasm and energy is what I want!
Please do more videos! This one helped me so much and I’ve watched it so many times 😅
I loved Japan, because the signs always explained me what to do and thanked me for it.
