T&L Market Kalihi, Hawaii | Manapua Man Food | Cheap Eats!. Delicious food. I support your video. Watched the video on Watched the video on Sep 2, 2022 very like. Thank you so much
Aloha Misty! Wow, I think 1 small noodles and 1 fried hicken can hold me off for hours at a cost of $5.50 total? At 5:07, I can def hear the crunch! Looks good. Mahalo for ways finding the good cheap eats!👍🤙😋
Thanks Sean! Yes I think you can get that for the price. Someone told me they went today to try and they agreed and loves the noodles. I hope you can try it one day. Mahalo and have a good weekend!
Hey, Misty. When I lived in Moanalua Gardens I used to traverse Middle and School Street and didn't know there was this hidden gem. I grew up when there was a manapua man balancing his to steamers on a long bowed bamboo pole and your video brought back fond memories from my childhood. I totally enjoy your videos and use them when my wife and I are at a loss as to where to go. As a former business development person I totally am into supporting local, especially businesses run by older immigrants who turn out some really ono and affordable grinds. Keep up the great work!
T&L is in Old Kalihi.., the area is called that because its the first area of Kalihi born and it is next to the Army Base known as Fort Shafter. Just check history records when Fort Shafter was established there in Kalihi.
My favorite pork hash is 'Island Manapua'. As I prefer not have crushy stuff in there, theirs is my favorite. "Island Manapua' can be found in Manoa, and my closest one is on Gulick in Kalihi.
Nice video, I really enjoy how relaxed all your videos are and I love the cozy little hole in the wall places that you go to for the cheap eats, always looks so good. Thanks again, have a fun weekend 🤟💥🌟
Misty, suggestion - when you do your closeup of your items sitting in your car, if you're in the shade, keep the food item in the shade so the exposure is the same. That way the exposure won't be blown out. I also prefer the baked manapua from Royal Kitchen.
Yeah I couldn't find any good spot to film in the car. The sun's position at the time was straight into the windshield. I had no shade at all. That's why some b-roll was taken near the dashboard.
I’m a new subscriber from Australia 👋 it’s a dream of mine to be able to go to Hawaii for awesome food and amazing weather. The food looked delicious 🤤
I feel the same about manapua.. It's not that i don't like manapua, it's because I'm very specific about what I like about manapua. The dough has to be light and fluffy, not too sweet. The char siu and dough should not be too sweet together. You can tell that's the old school kine cuz the ratio of meat and dough along with the chopped texture of the char siu.
Looks so ono! I just actually ordered Fried Saimin for dinner! Plus regular Saimin soup. I’ll eat leftovers tomorrow, lol. I do want Pork hash & Managua now!
Watching this video reminds me of when I was home last which has been years ago and I am from NUUANU VALLEY. I went to NUUANU VALLEY ELEMENTARY then I went to kawanakoa then I went to ST LOUIS HIGH SCHOOL then I went into the ARMY for 5 years then I went to The CULINARY INSTITUTE OF AMERICA UPSTATE NEW YORK STATE, and I have been here since. GOT married and I have 3 kids. Many of these places I don't know, as the only other VALLEY is MANOA valley but thanks for the update as I want to come home soon and see what's going on, especially ALA MONOA as my brother told me and that a lot of people have left the islands, to expensive to live their. Many have left going to the mainland
Yes, many people have left. It is expensive and you'll be surprised - not the same. But at least the food is still the same. That's awesome that you went to the CIA. Are you a chef? I have some videos here and there of the Ala Moana and town area. Thanks for watching.
Yes this place was yummy! The only crack seed store I know of nowadays is the Kaimuki Crack Seed store. We went to one in the Waianae video but it sadly went out of business.
Good manapua, pork hash, pepeiao are Very hard to come by since Char Hung Sut closed up shop. Have you ever tried Ying Leong Look Funn Factory, Yat Tung Chow Noodle Factory & Yung Yee Kee Dim Sum. They're the newest manapua/dim sum eatery to open. The other two are Chinatown cornerstone's-lol....ALWAYS appreciate your submissions.....
I'm not much into Chinese food but I agree that the best was Char Hung Sut. I did do a video at Yung Yee Kee and enjoyed the food. I will look into the others you mentioned. Thank you for your suggestions!
Another thing, T&L is named after thè founding owners and now it is owned & run by the nephew... and the truck by Kuhio Towers is now run by the brother.
Hey Misty, I feel you regarding manapua, but the reason I don't care for them that much is the filling. I hate hate hate when you bite into the filling and get chunks of fat and/or gristle. I've even gagged on that before. If I wanted manapua in the past, I'd go to Libby's because their filling is ground fine so even if it has the same amount of fat and gristle, because it was ground so fine, the texture was easy to take. How was the filling at T&L regarding texture? Looked OK from what you showed us.
Whaaa? I thought the food was yummy. But definitely different from when I came a long time ago with the different owner. Not in a bad way. Just different style of cooking.

My favorite place to go too when I’m on a budget. The noodles is the Bomb!!

Yes I'm from Kalihi. Mahalo. 🤙
Those noodz looked ONO! 😋 And that fried chicken! 🤪 That is just like I like it! Another great vid.
Oh yah! Was ono! Usually I'm disappointed because it just tastes like flour or raw noodle with no flavor but this hit the spot. Mahalo!
My favorite pork hash is 'Island Manapua'. As I prefer not have crushy stuff in there, theirs is my favorite.
"Island Manapua' can be found in Manoa, and my closest one is on Gulick in Kalihi.
Great video Misty! I was looking at them on Yelp and the $5 bento caught my eye. Love those old school places!!!have a good weekend!
Thanks have a good weekend. Unfortunately it rose to $7 bento.
Aloha Misty, great food items you shows and all looked very filling as well. Mahalo for showing all of these great hidden gems in Oahu.
Thanks Paula. 🤙
Wow. Didn’t know about T&L. I’ll check it out next time. Thank u for your very informative food reviews!:)
You're very welcome! Thanks so much for watching and always commenting 🙂
Seeing kalihi videos always get me nostalgic. Makes me wish youtube was around before places like Kennys closed up.
Yes wouldn't it be cool to have film on Kenny's and their pac man arcade machine, Gems, Emjays, etc.
"Kennyyyyyyyyy's.... at the Kam Shopping Center in KA-lihiiiiii...." 🎶
I love the baked manapua, the steamed too much bread

Please try Vongs Manapua in Nanakuli. Delicious food at a budget price you can get a lot of different varieties for $20! 🤙
Mahalo. Where in Nanakuli is this? I'm interested.
Wow looks So delicious my friend

That's one thing I missed about Hawaii, the Manapua van. My favorite was the pork hash with sriracha. I swear the Sriracha was spicier back then 😆
I love sirracha!
great video miss the manapua man i think hes still in pearlcity noodles n pork hash in a small wax paper bag one day i will go look for him
Yes under the pedestrian bridge. I see him often.
Looks good. Manapua looks big 😁
Yes it was bigger than other manapuas!
I gain weight watching your videos 😂 everything looks so good! 😋
🤣
Looks so ono! I just actually ordered Fried Saimin for dinner! Plus regular Saimin soup. I’ll eat leftovers tomorrow, lol. I do want Pork hash & Managua now!

@@FoodFiend I so but you know nothing beats food in Hawaii!

Hi Misty. Agree with your 711 pork hash comment 👌, it's ono. The pork hash at Garden Island Cafe in Waipahu is also very good and it's bigger.
Yes did a video a while ago on Garden Island Cafe. Ono cake noodle and chow fun!
Hole in the wall places like that have foods better than lots of other places.
💯

Yes. I don't like the sweet taste. This one was not ground up fine. But it didn't seem like too many fat pieces in there.
New owners
Trying to find a good manapua place since Libby's closed
It seems Royal Kitchen is now the go to since Libbys and Char Hung Sut are gone.
The price is good. Definitely affordable. The taste tho...need help.
Whaaa? I thought the food was yummy. But definitely different from when I came a long time ago with the different owner. Not in a bad way. Just different style of cooking.
Honolulu parking 😱
Yeah so humbug!
I don't like manapua either b/c I don't like sweet, so I don't eat chasiu or Chinese sausage (lop cheung). I prefer savory meat bao.
I agree. I don't like lop cheung either.
I’m sorry but 7-Eleven pork hash is not good. It’ll do in a pinch but there are better options if you’re willing to find them.
I dont love manapua anymore cuz Libbys and Char Hung Sut decided to ditch the people of Hawaii, how rude!!
Ah well, sometimes when you're old and done it for years you deserve to retire and enjoy life.
The people who owned Char Hung Sut sold the building a few years ago. The family is taking care of their mom
The Char Hung Sut building was sold during the Covid-19 pandemic
