The real 1962 Ferrari F1 was truly a remarkable race car. The overall design of the car gave one the impression it was moving, despite the fact, it was standing still. A very loud engine with twin exhaust, the car won numerous racing events. However, like many earlier F1 race cars of this period of time, speed, not safety, was the order of the day. We lost many great drivers because of the very poor safety standards of the day. Not only the cars, but the tracks as well. Still, this was my favorite time period of racing. The drivers, the cars, the tracks and the beautiful women. It was truly a playboy sort of sport, with this devil may care bravado. Drivers rarely ever went to a wreck unless it was to try a save a friend. I had this 1962 Matchbox Ferrari F1. Oh I was probably about 4 or 5. I remember how beautiful that red was and those gorgeous wire wheels. The driver, as I recall, looked awesome. With his helmet and goggles. I dreamed about racing with that car. Played with it endlessly until I got bored. Of all my most favorite Matchbox cars, this Ferrari F1 was indeed my favorite. It just had this wow or cool factor the other cars didn't have. To prove my point. Later when hot wheels became more popular, I raced my Ferrari F1 against my friends Hemi Cuda and spanked him badly in the loop. We raced three times. I won all 3 and his Cuda. That little Ferrari F1 was and is amazing. Hopefully one day, I'll find one to display. Great video🚘
Beautiful! I was a kid in the early/mid 1960s and have fond memories of my beautifully-made old Matchbox cars. True quality and value. I actually still have my old Land Rover Safari and would love to have a real Series II to go with it.
Hey there, nice job. Sorry to compare but you and Marty have a similar narrative, clear concise and no BS. Makes for very easy viewing. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
I love the Ferrari 156 Sharknose! I have one of these in my collection. Although I’ve sold a majority of it off, this one stays. At least for now. I just need to find out which box I have it buried in and put it back out on a shelf in my office.
Really nice restoration! I love this model myself! Marty's wife's toothbrush seems to have become an epic item. I wouldn't be surprised to see it in a RPG video game one day! Talking about Marty, maybe you could ask him if he know where to find the driver? He seems to know where to get everything for Matchbox restorations. Also, Italian Red paint, is from what a friend of mine told me, actually Ferrari red. It's just that Ferrari didn't like that they used their name, so it became Italian red instead.
Thank you! Yes, that toothbrush has taken on a personality! He's from Aus, they seem to have a much better Matchbox selection than the US. I have several links but haven't found anyone that ships to the US as of yet.
Rather than warm water for the tires, may I suggest you try glycerine? It revitalizes rubber like you wouldn't believe - let the tires soak in glycerine for a day or so, and they will become just as flexible as when they were new.
Thank you! Yeah, I notice the decals were just in the general area on most pictures I looked up. On this car originally one was mid high and the other is low so each side wasn't even consistent.
Nice job. I would have filed the casting line on the top an side of the noze, though. I know this isn't supposed to be a exact model of the orginal, but these where absent on the original (there was one very obvious line one on the sides, just like on this Matchbox), and filing them out would have make this even better.
Was never really a huge fan of matchbox. This is the first time I've seen an older matchbox, im actually surprised, maybe they lost their touch over the years. Either way great job. I'll probaby use matchbox as a few guinea pigs for my first resto/customs.
Good job! I used to do this as a kid, my folks couldnt afford new so friends used to give my battered Dinky and Matchbox cars. I used to strip them and repaint by hand with model paint. I couldnt drill and tap the posts usually i got the rivets to go back on! Dinky always had rubber tires! I dont know if you got dinky in the states?
Great work as always. I have two questions. First, do you ever break any drill bits? I must not know the basics of drilling because I break bits on just about everything. Also, how do you figure out the ratios for how much thinner to add? Trial and error?
Thank you! I haven't broken a bit, I'm guessing maybe you are pressing down on them? I let the drill bit do all the work. Mixing is somewhat trial and error but 99% or time time I mix all enamels a 1-1 with lacquer thinner.
As a child I had the three Formula One Lesney Matchbox cars a Lotus, a BRM and the Ferrari that is shown even then I thought they were well crafted and fascinating, lost them when our place burned.
i'm on a matchbox car restoration video spree cause i somehow found one video on my recommendation tab(baremetalHW) and here i thought i was watching BaremetalHW the whole time until you mentioned the video on their channel..
ithBeautiful, like new. I have the same model in my collection. Don t know for sure in which state it is and if the driver is missing. The other racing car i have is a green Ford with closed yellow wheels
I just stumbled onto your video. Atop my desk shelf I have a MATCHBOX F40 1960 Ferrari Dino 240/V12 in red car. It has 17 as the car number, outside exhausts, clear plastic engine intake and a clear plastic driver windscreen. The bottom of the cars paint is just off original and the top of the cars paint is either dirty or covered in cigarette smoke. It has one Ferrari decal on each side just front and below the drivers windscreen. Any idea of its value or collectability ??? Thank You .
@@WheelsNThangs No box, it's just been a knock display piece for me for years. I did check ebay yesterday and I believe it's worth maybe $ 7.00 - $15.00 , and has limited collector value.
Billy Carpenter Yeah, looks very cool but appears you can get them very reasonable. Some of these cars are hit and miss on value, just like my videos 😜

Glad you mention Marty, i'm watching you both!
so cool you gave a shout out to marty (and his wife's toothbrush 😄). the car looks awesome, nice to see you branch out into matchboxes.

With the nose of that thing being shaped like that I would turn it into a keychain

more of a Dolphin nose Ferrari but there is a litte radiator in there.
This 'shark' nose was the inspiration for the front fascia of the 360 Modena

The problem with using screws is that they will trap carpet fibres when you are racing the cars over the bedroom floor, the rivets dont.
